scholarly journals CONCEPTUAL REVIEW ON RELIGIOSITY, WORK-LIFE BALANCE (WLB) AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS (HEIs)

Working from home (WFH) is now becoming a new normal, and today it brings a big change in the way people think and act. However, some people find that working from home is a big challenge, especially for those with families and young children. This is not easy and it leads to stress and burdens because the employees were not able to share a good time with their family and work demands. This study aims to identify the influencing factors of Work-life balance (WLB) on employee performance and moderating effect of religiosity towards WLB and employee performance of HEIs. The study will be used to accumulate empirical literature by the name of religiosity towards WLB and employee performance in different online database sources. The review findings show that there is a significant effect of WLB especially, technological, institutional, and individual factors are considered the most influential effects on employee performance. This study also identified that there is a moderating effect of religiosity towards WLB and employee performance of HEIs. The findings will be used to develop a reach framework and will be conducted a rigorous depth study and will be drawn policy guidelines for further improvement of WLB and employee performance in HEIs.

The Covid-19 pandemic affected all dimensions of human life. To prevent the spread of the disease, many companies have allowed their employees to work from home in the quarantine period. However, working from home requires a high level of self-discipline from the employee. Changing the balance between work and personal life can impact employee productivity, which requires independent research. This study aims to determine the influence of work from home and work discipline on employee performance through the work-life balance as mediating variable. The sample in this study is 311 employees of the Central Financial and Development Supervision Agency in Jakarta. Data for analysis were collected by questionnaire with Likert scale. Based on the formula Slovin, for the purposes of this study, 311 respondents were selected to take the survey. The spread of the questionnaire runs approximately 1(one) week. The return questionnaires are done indirectly through a Google form. The authors used the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and AMOS version 22 program to process the data. To develop the research toolkit, the authors applied tested and validated indicators in previous studies. The analysis results show that work from home, work discipline, and work-life balance significantly affect employee performance. Despite this, the companies increase the attention to their employees in carrying out work from home, work discipline, and work-life balance because working from home is a challenge for many employees. In particular, some employees lack discipline in carrying out their work at home. The pandemic has forced workers to be more flexible to maintain a work-life balance and achieve higher performance at work from home.

AbstractIntroductionAn overview of the requirements for the head of a surgical department in Germany should be given.Materials and methodsA retrospective literature research on surgical professional policy publications of the last 10 years in Germany was conducted.ResultsSurveys show that commercial influences on medical decisions in German hospitals have today become an everyday, predominantly negative, actuality. Nevertheless, in one survey, 82.9% of surgical chief physicians reported being very satisfied with their profession, compared with 61.5% of senior physicians and only 43.4% of hospital specialists. Here, the chief physician is challenged. Only 70% of those surveyed stated that they could rely on their direct superiors when difficulties arose at work, and only 34.1% regarded feedback on the quality of their work as sufficient. The high distress rate in surgery (58.2% for all respondents) has led to a lack in desirability and is reflected in a shortage of qualified applicants for resident positions. In various position papers, surgical residents (only 35% describe their working conditions as good) demand improved working conditions. Chief physicians are being asked to facilitate a suitable work-life balance with regular working hours and a corporate culture with participative management and collegial cooperation. Appreciation of employee performance must also be expressed. An essential factor contributing to dissatisfaction is that residents fill a large part of their daily working hours with non-physician tasks. In surveys, 70% of respondents stated that they spend up to ≥3 h a day on documentation and secretarial work.DiscussionThe chief physician is expected to relieve his medical staff by employing non-physician assistants to take care of non-physician tasks. Transparent and clearly structured training to achieve specialist status is essential. It has been shown that a balanced work-life balance can be achieved for surgeons. Family and career can be reconciled in appropriately organized departments by making use of part-time and shift models that exclude 24-h shifts and making working hours more flexible.

As part of the response to Covid 19, working from home (WFH) was enforced by governments of more than 150 countries in order to curtail the transmission of the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic had brought new business ideas, making organizations change how they conduct their business. This study aims to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of working from home in the scientific literature, using questionnaires, how employees feel about WFH in the aspects of family values, increase of performance, isolation and disrupts work-life balance, how workers cope with WFH. Data was collected from the primary source by using a structured questionnaire completed through google form. The target respondents were employers and employees both from the private sector of the economy . Data was gathered from 504 respondents. SPSS and Excel were used to analyse the data. The majority of the respondents were employees (76.98%), while 23.02% were employers. An inquiry was also made about the marital status of the respondents, and the majority (71.83%) were married while 28.17% were single. The study showed that respondents were still able to connect with their teammates despite working from home, frequently communicate with leaders, and have clarity on working from home policies. It can also be seen that the majority of the respondents enjoyed working from home, although they still look forward to returning to the office. Findings on working from home on family values show that this work style positively influences availability at the home front. Findings on the effect on work performance show average agreement on the positive impact of working from home. Agreement on the negative impact of working from home on office/social interaction and work-life balance was also seen to be on average. It can be inferred from this study that working from home is a work style that employees would prefer to continue post-COVID-19.

This study aimed to analyse the impact of flexible work arrangements on the employee performance of employees in private Egyptian universities in Alexandria, mediated by work-life balance (applied to the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport). institutions to retain talented people, raise the efficiency of employee performance, and thus raise the efficiency of institutional performance and competitive capabilities of organizations. The researcher used the descriptive analytical method and the questionnaire as a tool for data collection, to measure the impact of flexible work arrangements (focusing on reducing working hours, benefits provided to employees, work policies towards parenting) on the work-life balance, and the extent of the impact of all this on raising the efficiency of employees' employee performance. A stratified random sample of 423 employees was used, and the data collected was analysed using SPSS and AMOS statistical software. The findings revealed a positive relationship between flexible work arrangements (reduced working hours, benefits provided to employees, and work policies toward parenting) and employee performance, as well as a positive relationship between flexible work arrangements and work-life balance, as well as a positive relationship between work-life balance and employee performance, and the researcher recommends implementing such policies.The recommendations also include the need to review current labour laws before legislators, and update them in line with contemporary technological development and the requirement to achieve a balance between the requirements of life and work. This study also recommends the adoption of reducing working hours as one of the flexible work policies offered by organisations to employees. The study concludes that flexible work arrangements and programmes are in fact a competitive tool that organisations can use to increase loyalty, improve performance, achieve commitment and job satisfaction, which enhances the organization's productivity.

The literature on work-life balance primarily focuses on how individuals cope with high work demands. This study, however, investigates how young professionals experience the work-life balance support offered by organisations. Twenty-four millennial consultants were interviewed to explore their perceptions of work-life balance and organisational support policies in an extreme work context. Twelve consultants worked for strategy houses with an average working week of around 60 hours, while the other 12 worked for general management consultancies with average working weeks of roughly 50 hours. Our comparative findings suggest that overall work-life balance perceptions stay positive in both settings. In strategy houses, where work pressures are highest, reported policies and practices go beyond health programmes, training and coaching, which are the most common work-life balance measures. Strategy houses monitor their consultants’ work-life balance experience weekly, provide options to outsource components of the work, and offer multiple forms of compensation. These further policies are much appreciated. Despite these positive assessments, we also observe an increase of negative work-life balance experiences due to the higher work pressures at strategy houses. There is, therefore, some ambiguity in the work-life balance perceptions of consultants, who recalibrate what are ‘normal’ work demands and reframe and refocus on the bright side of work life. Such occupational ideologies indicate a ‘dirty work’ experience.

In emerging cultures, job satisfaction and work-life balance are ongoing factors in gaining the ultimate competitive advantage for organizations. Work-life balance is a core ingredient for job satisfaction and for quality work performance, and employees need to have a sense of commitment to their jobs. The study attempts to determinethe extent to which work-life balance has a moderating effect onjob satisfaction in a call centre organization. The approach for the study was quantitative, and a self-developed questionnaire was the research instrument. The sample was107 employees and, both descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized.  A probability random sampling technique was chosen.  As evidenced in the study, room for improvement was required with both job satisfaction and work-life balance and; the validity and reliability for the study were high. The hypothesis for the study was partially accepted. In addition to a significant relationshipthat exists between the main constructs, work-life balance does have a moderating effect onjob satisfaction. The results and recommendations provide anecdotal evidence to call centre managers and policy makers to reach new levels of operations in order to meet their strategic intent and goal attainment.

Based on the high rate of employee turnover, poor working organizational culture, and rising occupational imbalances in various workplace, the study examined work life balance and employee performance in selected oil and gas firms in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The study adopts a descriptive survey design, the population of the study is 759 and the sample size is 262 using Taro Yamane’s formula. 262 copies of structured questionnaire was distributed and completely filled and returned. Pearson product moment correlation and regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis. Cronbach alpha was used to test the reliability of the instrument. The study employed dimensions of worklife balance bordering around the leave policy of selected oil and gas firms and evaluated their influence on measures of employee performance such as; service delivery, efficiency and effectiveness. It was discovered that there is a significant positive relationship between leave policy and service delivery. The findings revealed that leave policy motivate employee ability to deliver services efficiently and effectively, in conclusion work life balance practice is an important factor in increasing employee performance. The researcher recommends that managers of these oil and gas firms should prioritize creating different work life balance incentives that will improve employee performance.
