The primary aim of this study is to analyse the main factors affecting the learner autonomy and communicative competence of the EFL learners at higher education level in Pakistan. Nowadays, the English language is considered a language of education, business, and research, moreover, English is a medium of instruction in higher education institutions in Pakistan and communication ability and autonomy are regarded highly important skills for the students’ academic success and professional development in the university context. This study has used the literature review and situational analysis approach in order to explore the teaching and learning of the English language at the tertiary level in Pakistan. This study will discuss the present situation of English Language teaching in Pakistan, and the main challenges hindering the skill development of the students. This study has recommendations for the policymakers, teachers, trainers, and students struggling to develop communicative competence and learner autonomy at higher education level in Pakistan. The finding of the study indicates that gap in skill development, low proficiency, improper evaluation, and problematic pedagogy are the main factors affecting skill development in the Pakistani EFL context. Students’ skills can be promoted incompetence and autonomy areas by providing them with interpersonal and physical space in learning the target language.

In Malaysia, the students’ academic assessment has changed over time as it is now made to be more holistic. Predictive models used for educational data in Malaysia are still inadequate in giving a true picture of the students’ academic performance. The reason behind this is due to the lack of research in Malaysian context on predictive models and factors affecting students' academic achievement. Therefore, this study will conduct a systematic review on the literature, in order to identify the predictive methods for students’ academic performance in higher education. Through three major bases: WoS, Science Direct and IEEE Xplore, an extensive search was conducted to find any related articles from 2014 to 2018 that use "predict", "forecast", "academic performance", "student" and "higher education" keywords in their text. Initially, 195 articles were selected to be used in this review. However, through titles and abstracts’ filtering and screen processing, only 69 articles found to discuss on the predictive model for student's academic performance at higher education level. Based on extensive reading, the most widely used attributes in the predictive models is the academic process. While predictive models can be categorized into three, namely classification, cluster and regression, there are nine methods used by previous researchers in all categories. The most widely used category from previous studies was the classification, with 33 articles. This study has listed the advantages and disadvantages of each method based on the previous studies. This study also has identified the challenges and gaps faced by previous researchers in improving the existing models in the future. Among the challenges faced by the predictive models are the amount of data and assumptions that need to be followed before analysis can be made. In the future, the predictive models used for students’ academic performance should consider the latest assessments’ valuation method based on a modern educational system that emphasizes on soft skills, interpersonal skills and high-level thinking capabilities.

In higher educational institutions, it is not an easy task to judge the performance of the students timely which is becoming more challenging. Although institutions have gathered a lot of data about their students. They do not have some specific methods to extract meanings from it. The main objective of this study was to find out the performance-based prediction of the students using their demographic and academic factors by using traditional and machine learning approaches. Graduates and undergraduate students studying in KUST were the population of the study. The study was delimited to the department of physics. A total of ninety graduate and undergraduate students were selected randomly using a simple random sampling technique as the entire sample.  The result indicated that percentage in matric (Correlation = 0.304), intermediate (Correlation = 0.245) and National Aptitude Test scores (Correlation = 0.480) found the best predictors. Further research was recommended to predict students’ academic performance by taking other aspects of the students like personality, cognitive, psychological, and economic domain for making a dataset of the features which may be used in machine learning approach which is more reliable to judge the academic performance of the students at the higher education level. The purpose of current study was to explore the effect of digital literacy on academic performance of the students at higher education level. The study was mixed method and data were gathered with a questionnaire and semistructured interviews. The validity and reliability of the scales were ensured through experts' opinion, pilot testing and Croanbach Alpha score. The population comprised the students of M.S/M.Phil and Ph.D. A sample of 800 students was selected randomly from 10 Universities. The statistical tests like mean, standard deviation and correlation were used. Results revealed that digital literacy had significant effects on communication skills, research skills and confidence of the students and insignificant effect on students' CGPA.

Islamic higher college not only limited to higher education that famous at Islamic history like madrasah (e.g. Nizamiyah), and al-Jami’ah (e.g. al-Azhar). Yet, Islamic higher college is the implementation of learning process that can be categorized in higher education stage, that being practiced in Moslem society, even still in non-formal or informal form before madrasah existence. Several epistemologies branch indeed take place at formal institution, while some epistemologies branch theoretically applied at formal institution, but it’s practiced at non-formal institutions. These non-formal institutions were still reflecting Islamic higher education level.
