The study of the temporal and spatial evolution of precipitation is of great importance for the efficient use of water resources. This paper examines the long series of precipitation in Henan province from 1959-2018. Innovative Trend Analysis (ITA) method and Mann-Kendall (MK) test were used to analyze the characteristics of precipitation trend changes. Mann-Kendall (MK) mutation test and the sliding T method were used to study the jump features of precipitation. Wavelet analysis of the cyclical characteristics of precipitation. The results show that the spatial distribution of precipitation in Henan Province is uneven, with a gradual increase from north to south. The precipitation of northern, central and southern regions showed a downward trend, while that of western regions showed an upward trend. Both the northern and southern regions experienced jump features in precipitation around 1975 and 2008, while the western region experienced jump features around 1962 and 1980, and the central region experienced jump features around 1980; There are 3.5 different scales of “abundance and depletion” in the northern, western and southern regions, with a first principal cycle of 28a, and 5.5 different scales of “abundance and depletion” in the central region, with a first principal cycle of 17a.

The study of the temporal and spatial evolution of wetland landscapes and its driving factors is an important reference for wetland ecological restoration and protection. This article utilized seven periods of land use data in Henan Province from 1980 to 2015 to extract the spatial distribution characteristics of wetlands and analyze the temporal and spatial changes of wetlands in Henan Province. Transfer matrix, landscape metrics, correlation analysis, and redundancy analysis were applied to calculate and analyze the transformation types and area of wetland resources between all consecutive periods, and then the main driving factors of wetland expansion/contraction were explored. First, the total wetland area in Henan Province increased by 28% from 1980 to 2015, and the increased wetland area was mainly constructed wetlands, including paddy field, reservoir and pond, and canal. Natural wetlands such as marsh, lake, and floodplain decreased by 74%. Marsh area declined the most during 1990–1995, and was mainly transformed into floodplain and “Others” because of agricultural reclamation, low precipitation, and low Yellow River runoff. The floodplain area dropped the most from 2005 to 2010, mainly converted to canals and “Others” because of reclamation, exploitation of groundwater, the construction of the South–to–North Water Transfer Project, and recreational land development. Second, the results of correlation analysis and redundancy analysis indicated that economic factors were positively correlated with the area of some constructed wetlands and negatively correlated with the area of some natural wetlands. Socioeconomic development was the main driving factors for changes in wetland types. The proportion of wetland habitat in Henan Province in 2015 was only 0.3%, which is low compared to the Chinese average of 2.7%. The government should pay more attention to the restoration of natural wetlands in Henan Province.

This study emphasizes the precipitation and the maximum and minimum temperature trend and presents the results of study in temporal and spatial scales, after performing statistical analysis of the Xin’anjiang-Fuchunjiang watershed. Statistical Mann Kendall and Theil Sen techniques were used to determine the trend and its magnitude, respectively, and for determining the start and abrupt change in the trend, Sequential Mann Kendall test has been performed. Furthermore, statistical tests were performed to determine the overall trend in the area at a regional basis. For the removal of the serial effect of the data, prewhitening technique is applied. In this study, statistical tests were performed at 1901–2013 precipitation and temperature series and then after detection of the change year precipitation data were divided into two different scenarios of 1901–1960 period and 1961–2013 period. The results showed that precipitation trend is insignificant while maximum and minimum temperature have increased during 1901–2013 period except for some stations of autumn and summer seasons.

AbstractThe aim of this study is to assess the winter wheat planting (WWP) area in Henan Province and investigate its temporal and spatial variations by using remote sensing (RS) technology. A spectral angle mapper (SAM) was adopted to identify the WWP area of each district divided by the hierarchical grades of land surface drought index during 2001-2015. The results obtained show the expediency of monitoring the WWP areas at the regional scale via drought regionalization, which provides a goodness-of-fit R2 =0.933, a mean relative error MRE=49,118 ha, and an overall accuracy up to 90.24%. The major WWP areas in Henan Province were located in Zhoukou, Zhumadian, Shangqiu, Nanyang, and Xinxiang prefecture-level cities. Two representative sites are mountainous districts, with rich water resources or high urbanization rate, which have a low probability of WWP. Both sites exhibited a strongly manifested evolution of WWP areas, which could be attributed to extremely cold weather conditions, crop alternation, the popularization of new varieties, and fast expansion of built-up areas. The results of this study are instrumental in the analysis of crop planting variation characteristics, which should be taken into account in the further decision-making process related to the crop planting strategies.
