Alterations in aneurysm size and mass effect can result in alleviation or aggravation of symptoms. We assessed the effects of flow diversion with SILK stents on aneurysm sac size and associated factors. A retrospective evaluation of 14 aneurysms treated with SILK stents alone with MRI follow-up was performed. Aneurysm sac size was measured using the sequence best demonstrating the sac. Aneurysm characteristics and flow-related enhancement on time of flight images were documented. Clinical histories were reviewed for evolution of symptoms. Complete collapse of the aneurysm sac was demonstrated at three and 18 months in 2/14 aneurysms. Increase in size was observed in 2/14 aneurysms with associated persistent flow on time of flight MRA. Blister formation with aggravation of symptoms was observed in one aneurysm, and subsequent decrease in size occurred after treatment with a second SILK. The other aneurysm which increased in size initially continued to enlarge asymptomatically despite retreatment with a second SILK, however at 24 months thrombosis of the sac and decrease in size was observed. The remaining 10/14 aneurysms decreased in size. Nine had corresponding MRA occlusion and the tenth demonstrated decreased but persistent flow on the time of flight MRA. No aneurysm with MRA occlusion increased in size. Decrease in sac size was associated with MRA occlusion in our study. Persistence of flow and blistering were associated with increased sac size. As previously demonstrated flow diversion may be effective in the treatment of large aneurysms presenting with mass effect, however rates of sac obliteration in this small series were not as high as previously reported.

Introduction: The interpretation of clinical results of dental implant supported prosthesis treatment is very crucial to be able to make a comparison between different implant systems and treatment options and furthermore to benefit the experiences of the other clinicians. However, the clinical outcomes of these studies should be reported in an objective way and be independent from the system used and also be prepared in accordance with certain criteria and standards that have been accepted scientifically world-wide for being reliable and describing long-term results. Aim: Three-hundred and eighty-two consecutive NTA implants were performed on ninety-nine patients. The implants used in 2016 and the constructed restorations were retrospectively analyzed. In addition, the effect of the experience of clinician was evaluated related with the success of the implant therapy. Materials and Method: This retrospective study was conducted in the Department of Prosthodontics Süleyman Demirel University. Three-hundred and eighty-two consecutive NTA implants were performed on ninety-nine patients. The implants used in 2016 and the constructed restorations were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The implants were followed for at least 2 years. In total, 239 implants were inserted. It was found in 143 mandibles. Prosthetic restorations were determined to be partial prosthetics (219), single crown (81) and overdenture prosthetics (64). During the evaluation period, 6 implants failed before prosthetic treatment, ten decementations, six retentive screw loosening and five porcelain chipping were detected. Discussion and Conclusions: The early results of our study are consistent with the results of other studies. However, long-term follow-up is required for more accurate assessments.

Abstract As a follow-up on the data presented for seals, we herein report and discuss outcomes resulting from a retrospective evaluation of harbour porpoise stranding and necropsy data from Schleswig–Holstein, Germany (n = 4463) to enable an objective evaluation of potential ecological effects of grey seal predation on porpoises. Results are compared to a recent case of definite grey seal predation as well as to reports from other countries. Porpoise carcasses potentially subject to grey seal predation show severe lacerations, with large parts of skin and underlying tissue being detached from the body. Loss of blubber tissue is common. Based on the occurrence frequencies of encountered lesions, a list of parameters as well as a complementary decision tree are suggested to be used for future assessments. The results shown add to an increasingly standardised assessment protocol of suspected grey seal predation cases making respective results comparable between different areas and countries. The usage of a standardised protocol may increase the awareness of grey seal predation and the reporting of such cases. By this, differences in the predation and feeding patterns as well as the potential ecological relevance of this behaviour may be elucidated.

The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate for the first time the impact of a nanocellulose-based wound dressing in the treatment of pediatric patients with both partial- and deep-thickness burns. Usability and effectiveness were defined based on parameters such as frequency of dressing changes under narcosis, duration of hospital stay, onset of complications, need for additional treatments, and follow up scar formation assessment. Fifty-six children who sustained burns in the year 2018 and were treated with a nanocellulose-based wound dressing were included in the trial. The mean stay in hospital was 6.7 days. Patients underwent dressing changes under narcosis 2.4 times on average, and none had wound-associated infection. In all, 82% of the patients were treated only with nanocellulose-based wound dressings, and reepithelialization occurred after ten days. The majority of patients had scars with normal pigmentation (98%), vascularization (91%), height (92%), and pliability (92%). In conclusion, using a nanocellulose-based wound dressing for the treatment of both superficial, partial-thickness and deep, full-thickness burns has several advantages. Compared with the results published in literature on other wound dressings, it requires a moderate number of dressing changes under narcosis and results in short hospital stays. Additionally, it has a low associated infection rate and promotes wound healing.

Object The DIAM is a polyester-encased silicone interspinous dynamic stabilization device that can unload the anterior column and reestablish the functional integrity of the posterior column. Methods The DIAM was implanted in 104 patients between May 1, 2001 and October 30, 2001. A retrospective evaluation was performed based on chart review and patient questionnaire at a median follow-up interval of 18.1 months. Results Conclusions The DIAM implant appears to be a useful and effective alternative in the surgical management of a wide range of lumbar disorders. Patient complications are few and satisfaction is high.
