The work is devoted to numerical study on thermal radiation in spark discharge. The influence of radiative thermal conductivity on the expansion of the spark channel has been established. The study of the effect of value of the capacitance of the discharge capacitor on the energy emitted by the discharge has been carried out. The change in the thermodynamic state of the gas in the spark channel is considered taking into account following factors: change in the capacitance of the discharge capacitor, the length of the discharge gap and the initial gas pressure. The influence of the initial gas pressure and the gap length on the parameters of thermal radiation of a gas under conditions of a constant breakdown voltage supplied to the spark gap is investigated.

AbstractIn this paper, the effect of thermal radiation, variable viscosity and variable thermal conductivity on the flow and heat transfer of a thin liquid film over an unsteady stretching sheet is analyzed. The continuity, momentum and energy equations, which are coupled nonlinear partial differential equations, are reduced to a set of two non-linear ordinary differential equations, before being solved numerically. Results for the skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, velocity profiles as well as temperature profiles are presented for different values of the governing parameters. It is found that increasing the viscosity parameter leads to a rise in the velocity near the surface of the sheet and a fall in the temperature. Furthermore, it is shown that the temperature increases due to an increase in the values of the thermal conductivity parameter and the thermal radiation parameter, while it decreases with an increase of the Prandtl number.

The aim of the work is to study the influence of the length of the spark gap on energy input into the discharge channel during its gas-dynamic expansion. Methodology. The research is carried out by numerical modeling of the process of spark discharge development at variable values of the discharge gap length and at invariable other discharge conditions. The length of the gap was set in the range from 1 mm to 20 mm. The study was conducted using a numerical model of spark development, which takes into account the processes of nonstationary gas-dynamic expansion of the spark channel, the transient process in the electric circuit, nonequilibrium chemical processes, gas ionization, heat transfer and electrons thermal conductivity. The simulation was performed in atmospheric pressure nitrogen. The calculation was performed for various parameters of the RLC circuit, such as capacitance, inductance, resistance and voltage across the capacitor. Results. The study evaluates the influence of the spark length on the discharge current, the resistance of the spark channel, the energy deposited in the spark channel, and the distribution of thermodynamic parameters of the gas during the development of the spark discharge. It is confirmed that increasing the length of the gap increases the resistance of the spark. The deviation from the linear relationship between the deposited energy or the radiated energy and the length of the spark gap is estimated. Scientific novelty. A linear relationship between the gap length and the deposited energy is revealed when the total energy is above tens of Joules. Deviations from the linear dependence were detected in the discharge circuit when the total energy is below one of Joules. Practical value. The research results allow predicting the effect of the spark gap length on the energy input into the discharge channel under conditions of a slight change in the discharge current. In the conditions of essential change of amplitude of discharge current it is expedient to apply numerical researches for specification of changes in the energy deposited into a spark discharge.

Compared with a silicon MOSFET device, the SiC MOSFET has many benefits, such as higher breakdown voltage, faster action speed and better thermal conductivity. These advantages enable the SiC MOSFET to operate at higher switching frequencies, while, as the switching frequency increases, the turn-on loss accounts for most of the loss. This characteristic severely limits the applications of the SiC MOSFET at higher switching frequencies. Accordingly, an SRD-type drive circuit for a SiC MOSFET is proposed in this paper. The proposed SRD-type drive circuit can suppress the turn-on oscillation of a non-Kelvin packaged SiC MOSFET to ensure that the SiC MOSFET can work at a faster turn-on speed with a lower turn-on loss. In this paper, the basic principle of the proposed SRD-type drive circuit is analyzed, and a double pulse platform is established. For the purpose of proof-testing the performance of the presented SRD-type drive circuit, comparisons and experimental verifications between the traditional gate driver and the proposed SRD-type drive circuit were conducted. Our experimental results finally demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed SRD-type drive circuit.

Currently, there are few studies on the influence of microscale thermal radiation on the equivalent thermal conductivity of microscale porous metal. Therefore, this paper calculated the equivalent thermal conductivity of high-porosity periodic cubic silver frame structures with cell size from 100 nm to 100 µm by using the microscale radiation method. Then, the media radiation characteristics, absorptivity, reflectivity and transmissivity were discussed to explain the phenomenon of the radiative thermal conductivity changes. Furthermore, combined with spectral radiation properties at the different cross-sections and wavelength, the radiative transmission mechanism inside high-porosity periodic cubic frame silver structures was obtained. The results showed that the smaller the cell size, the greater radiative contribution in total equivalent thermal conductivity. Periodic cubic silver frames fluctuate more in the visible band and have better thermal radiation modulation properties in the near infrared band, which is formed by the Surface Plasmon Polariton and Magnetic Polaritons resonance jointly. This work provides design guidance for the application of this kind of periodic microporous metal in the field of thermal utilization and management.
