Today, medical rehabilitation is undergoing significant transformation. The new system built around the biopsychosocial model includes assessment of physical constraints and rehabilitation diagnosis, determination of rehabilitation potential, formulation of goals and objectives of individual interventions, development of rehabilitation plans, and progress evaluation. All of these rehabilitation components can be implemented using a personalized, problem-oriented, multidisciplinary approach, which is now being actively introduced into clinical practice. The current pandemic of the novel coronavirus infection has demonstrated that medical rehabilitation is crucial for convalescents. However, its principles and techniques have not been fully elaborated yet. This review describes the current state of medical rehabilitation of children with or after infectious diseases and identifies its avenues and prospects.

In 2020, exactly 90 years have passed since the first sanitary faculty in the history of medical education (F. ErismannInstitute of Public Health, nowadays) was found in the 1st Moscow Medical Institute (Sechenov University, nowadays).The history of the faculty unites the names of prominent scientists in the field of preventive medicine: F. Erismann, N.A. Semashko, A.V. Molkov, A.N. Sysin, E.M. Tareev and many, many others. New challenges to public health continueto appear in our time. The direction of “preventive medicine” has become more important than ever in the context of a pandemic of infection caused by the novel coronavirus (COronaVIrus Disease-19, COVID-19). The issues of epidemiologyand hygiene have become extremely relevant for doctors of any profile, not only for preventive ones (epidemiologists and hygienists). The strategic task today is to increase the “preventive medicine” specialty’s authority. It is also important to preserve and enhance the domestic experience of studying the disciplines of preventive medicine, harmonizing the content of educational programs with the world community. Research work at the Institute is carried out in 4 main areas of preventive medicine and public health: epidemiology, public health, microbiology, and hygiene.This review presents the main historical milestones in the development of teaching the specialty “preventive medicine” at the Sechenov University, the current state, and prospects for further development.

The novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), which quickly became a pandemic in 2020, has presented new challenges for healthcare system. COVID-19, being a contagious infectious disease predominantly affects respiratory system, causes cardiovascular, neurocognitive, renal, gastrointestinal, hepatic, metabolic and mental damages, which is in fact a multisystem disease. Patients with COVID-19, primarily with moderate and severe forms, need appropriate rehabilitation. This article establishes need of development of rehabilitation programs for COVID-19 patients, identifies their problems that leads to restrictions on everyday life, self-service, mobility, communication, interpersonal relationships, and professional activities. Goals and general principles of medical rehabilitation in context of a pandemic at all three stages are presented. Features of rehabilitation approaches are highlighted and important components of individual rehabilitation program for COVID-19 patients are highlighted.

AbstractThe outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease has spurred a tremendous research boost aiming at controlling it. Under this scope, deep learning techniques have received even more attention as an asset to automatically detect patients infected by COVID-19 and reduce the doctor’s burden to manually assess medical imagery. Thus, this work considers a deep learning architecture that fuses the layers of current-state-of-the-art deep networks to produce a new structure-fused deep network. The advantages of our deep network fusion scheme are multifold, and ultimately afford an appealing COVID-19 automatic diagnosis that outbalances current deep learning methods. Indeed, evaluation on Computer Tomography (CT) and X-ray imagery considering a two-class (COVID-19/ non-COVID-19) and a four-class (COVID-19/ non-COVID-19/ Pneumonia bacterial / Pneumonia virus) classification problem, highlights the classification capabilities of our method attaining 99.3% and 100%, respectively.

The indicators of occupational morbidity in the Samara Region and its dynamics in the context of the pandemic of the novel coronavirus infection COVID-19 are presented. In 2020, out of 127 acute and chronic occupational diseases diagnosed in 11 months, 22.05 % (28 cases) were diagnosed with professional sensorineural hearing loss, 5.51 % (7 cases) with dust lung diseases, 5.51 % (7 cases) — atrophic rhinopharyngolaryngitis, in 3.94 % (5 cases) — occupational allergies in the form of occupational bronchial asthma and eczema, in 3.94 % (5 cases) — vibration disease, in 1.57 % (2 cases) — chronic occupational radiculopathy, in 0.79 % (1 case) — oncological occupational pathology (dermatosarcoma of the hand), in 3.14 % (4 cases) — occupational infectious diseases (except for COVID-19).


The novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is known to present with a broad range of clinical manifestations. While symptoms such as fever, cough, dyspnea, myalgias, diarrhea, anosmia, and ageusia predominate, less common manifestations involving multiple systems have also been described. Some reported ocular manifestations include symptoms associated with keratoconjunctivitis, such as chemosis, ocular pain, photophobia, dry eye and tearing [1]. Neurological symptoms in addition to smell and taste dysfunction have been commonly described as well, and include headache, ataxia, dizziness, altered level of consciousness, and stroke [2]. Whether these neuro-ophthalmologic findings reflect direct involvement of these systems or a more generalized response to SARS-CoV-2 infection remains uncertain. Many other neurologic, rheumatologic, and infectious diseases also present with similar clinical findings as those described in COVID-19, further complicating the diagnostic picture. In this case series, we examine several patients presenting with unusual neuro-ophthalmological manifestations and discuss similarities of these findings with those seen in SARS-CoV-2 infection, and review current literature describing possible mechanisms underlying similar findings in patients with confirmed COVID-19.

The purpose of the study is to develop a medical rehabilitation program for the patients who have come through a new coronavirus infection in the resort of Pyatigorsk. Material and methods. In the conditions of the health center named after S.M. Kirov in Pyatigorsk, a branch of FSBI NCFSCC FMBA of Russia, there have been observed 52 patients who had the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 of moderate severity, at the age from 18 up to 65 years old. Two groups have been formed by simple randomization: in the main group, the patients received normoxic barotherapy against the background of traditional spa therapy for pulmonary patients; in the control group, the patients had only conventional therapy. Results. The inclusion of normoxic barotherapy in the complex of medical rehabilitation of patients who came through the novel coronavirus infection contributed to the increase of tolerance to exercise and improved blood oxygen saturation in 92,9 % of cases, restoration of impaired functions of bronchopulmonary apparatus in 89,3 % and physical and mental health in 85.7 % of cases, which was significantly higher in comparison to similar indicators in the control group. Conclusion. Medical rehabilitation of patients after the new coronavirus infection in the resort is justified and advisable.

During this epidemic of COVID-19, children are in need of much concentration and profound love of the senior family members. Although the measures taken by the organizations are necessary to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, they may be causing widespread mental health issues, including depression and loneliness. Therefore, it is imperative that parents have to spend the lion-share of time with children while listening to them cordially. Parents can participate in sports with them to help them stay fit so that they can enjoy commemorating moments. However, in this additional time, the parents can also make them habituated to practice the rules of health, so does social distancing. Bangladesh Journal of Infectious Diseases 2020;7(1):33-37
