Said’s critique of Orientalism provokes a comprehensive review by post-colonial theorists of the bulk of western knowledge regarding non-western countries. This Orientalist literature buttresses the colonial notion of a civilizing mission, which is also supported by many western feminists who provide theoretical grounds to such colonialist perceptions. Such post-colonial feminists as Gayatri Spivak, Chandra Mohanty, and Rajeswari Rajan analyze western feminism’s ideological complicity with Orientalist and imperialist ventures.

This paper deals with the way in which European modernity, and the West more generally, are reflected upon in the field of post- and decolonial theories, which generally question those representations of the European/Western tradition of thought and politics that only focus on their positive aspects, but differ greatly with regard to the way in which they frame and formulate their critique of this tradition. I discuss three major positions in this field. They are characterized by the rejection of Western modernity (Walter Mignolo), by a deconstruction of core text and principles of the European Enlightenment (Gayatri Spivak), and by attempts at a renewal and hence a radicalization of some of its core normative claims, particularly humanism (Achille Mbembe).

The critical discussion in this article is on postcolonial identities and it centres on Dinaw Mengestu's novels Children of the Revolution and All Our Names. It is contended that the term postcolonial identities is taken to mean the awareness of the subaltern as they try to negotiate who they are within the chronotopic hybridized African space in the postcolonial context. In the epigraph above, Gayatri Spivak describes the culturally oppressed, the subaltern, as having neither antiquity nor ability for speech due to the milieu of colonial production in which they operate. Important for the study, history and speech happen in time-space. Therefore, the identities of the subaltern, which Spivak associates to history and speech, come into being in the novel through fusion of time-space indicators. Cued by Spivak’s unique assertion, how Mengestu’s Children of the Revolution and All Our Names address themselves to postcolonial identities through fusion of time-space indicators is the central concern of this paper.

In the preface Joan Aesthetic education in the era of globalization, her Remarkable collection of field-defining essays written over a quarter century, Gayatri Spivak recounts how she retrospectively “discovered” an informing motif: the “distracted theory of the double bind.” She briefly notes that “distracted theory” is a “poor but accurate translation” of théorie distraite, the term Derrida used in the preface to Psyche: Inventions of the Other to characterize the relation between that collection of occasional essays and his ongoing theoretical project (ix).

Este artigo investiga os pressupostos teóricos das viagens das teorias feministas pelo eixo Norte-Sul, argumentando que teorizar no feminismo implica desde já engajar-se em tradução - traduzir conceitos e terminologias de um campo disciplinar para as categorias analíticas de outro(s) em um processo que Gayatri Spivak caracteriza como "transação dinâmica de significados", ou seja, o ato de colocar uma forma de teorizar em contato ou transação com outra (ou várias outras) na leitura de qualquer tipo de texto, literário ou social. Nos resvalos resultantes desse encontro de linguagens, textos e significados, e a partir de traduções necessariamente infiéis, faz-se possível a construção de outros mapas do conhecimento. No entanto, para que haja qualquer tipo de circulação de teorias e conceitos, é preciso a existência de aparatos materiais (por exemplo, as revistas feministas) que organizam traduções e disseminações. Refletindo a partir do lugar específico que ocupei como co-editora da Revista Estudos Feministas entre 1998 e 2002, teço algumas considerações sobre as práticas de mediação praticadas pela revista nas traduções das teorias feministas.

ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini mendeskripsikan pengaruh tahta tertinggi dan perlawanan kaum subaltern pada novel Arok Dedes karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer dengan menggunakan teori postkolonialisme Gayatri Spivak. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Pendekatan dalam penelitian ini  mengunakan pendekatan kualitatif karena dalam penelitian ini menggunakan sumber data novel Arok Dedes  yang berkisah tentang kudeta di Tanah Jawa. Data penelitian ini adalah kata, kalimat, paragraf, yang terdapat dalam novel Arok Dedes karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer dengan menggunakan teori poskolonial Ggayatri Spivak. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode dokumentasi atau pustaka. Teknik analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisia deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian adalah pengaruh tahta tertinggi dan perlawanan kaum subaltern pada novel Arok Dedes karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer.Kata kunci: Subaltern, poskolonial, pengaruh tahta, perlawananABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to describe the influence of the highest throne and the resistance of the subalterns on the novel Arok Dedes by Pramoedya Ananta Toer by using the postcolonialism theory of Gayatri Spivak. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The approach in this study using a qualitative approach because in this study used Arok Dedes story novel as data sources  which is about a coup in Java. This research data is words, sentences, paragraphs, contained in Arok Dedes novel by Pramoedya Anan ta Toer by using postcolonial Ggayatri Spivak theory. Data collection techniques in this study used the method of documentation or literature . The data analysis technique of this study used descriptive analysis techniques. The results of the study are the influence of the highest throne and the resistance of the subalterns on the novel Arok Dedes by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Keywords: Subaltern, postcolonial, influence of throne, resistance

Esse artigo se propõe a refletir sobre a construção de novas narrativas dentro do conjunto de favelas do Complexo do Alemão e a forma como essa construção afeta os poetas e consequentemente o público presente no slam. Busco apresentar o Slam Laje que tem acontecido no Alemão através da minha experiência no campo que aconteceu no aniversário de 1 ano do evento. O Slam é um novo fenômeno da poesia oral e através de sua performance vem ganhando espaço em todo o País, através de suas batalhas os poetas da favela estão mandando o papo reto falando sobre racismo, homofobia e feminismo buscando a reflexão por parte do público. Serão analisados nesse trabalho alguns conceitos de identidade e representatividade a partir de estudos de Gloria Anzaldúa, Gayatri Spivak e Walter Benjamim.

O artigo propõe, em primeiro lugar, uma revisão teórica da Antropologia, avaliando seu lugar no rol das teorias atuais das Ciências Humanas. Para tanto, constrói a metáfora das metamorfoses do olhar etnográfico, o que permite detectar momentos importantes da recepção e reprodução, em países periféricos como o Brasil, desse saber plasmado nos países centrais nos dias do colonialismo. Em seguida passa em revista as idéias de teóricos do pensamento pós-colonial e dos estudos subalternos, como Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak e Homi Bhabha. Num terceiro momento, discute as possibilidades de uma etnografia pós-colonial, voltada para a narração das vozes subalternas, o que aproxima a Antropologia da Literatura Comparada. Finalmente, ilustra essas discussões com a apresentação de uma narrativa extraordinária de uma quebradeira de côco de babaçu do Maranhão, texto que erijo como emblemático da condição contemporânea de desenraizamento e perplexidade a que estamos submetidos, tanto os nossos supostos nativos como os etnógrafos e intelectuais dos países periféricos.

Resumo: Em Paradise Lost, de John Milton, épico e império se encontram dissociados. Contrário a muitas leituras tradicionais, essa escrita do início da Era Moderna inglesa intersecta o pensamento pós-colonial de várias maneiras. Ao usar o circuito pós-colonial de teoria e prática textual de Gayatri Spivak, este artigo desenvolve uma desleitura em contraponto desse texto de Milton: Paradise Lost poderá finalmente libertar-se de seu conteúdo colonial e liberar seu conteúdo pós-colonial.Palavras-chave: Gayatri Spivak; pós-colonialismo; John Milton.Abstract: In John Milton’s Paradise Lost epic and empire are dissociated. Contrary to many misreadings,32 this all-important writing of the English Early Modern Age intersects postcolonial thinking in a number of ways.
