A field experiment was conducted assess the influences of biostimuants on the yield of bush bean cv. Co (Gb) 14 at Poothurai village, Tamil Nadu during kharif season of 2019 in randomized block design with nine treatments and three replications. Biostimulants adopted for the study were seaweed extract, panchagavya, chitosan and effective microorganism with two different concentrations applied as foliar spray on 30, 45 and 60 days after sowing.Results revealed that the maximum values of yield parameters viz., length of the raceme(51.2 cm), number of racemes plant-1(8.5), number of flowers raceme-1 (26.4), number of flowers (221.5), days to 50 % flowering (36.6 days), number of pods plant-1(41.6), pod length (10.6 cm), pod width (3.2 cm), single pod weight (4.6 g), number of seeds (5.2), total pod yield (12.6 t/ha), net income (Rs. 1,71,628 ha-1) and B:C ratio (3.14)were recorded under the treatment of seaweed extract (5mL-1) + RDF. The RDF + 3% panchagavya proved next best treatment in respect of these parameters. Among all the biostimulants, seaweed proved superior to others in respect of flowering and yield attributes. The minimum values of all these characters were recorded under control

Field experiments were conducted to study the effect of establishment techniques on yield and economics of red gram [Cajanus cajan (L.)] under irrigated condition at Regional Research Station, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Paiyur - 635 112,Tamil Nadu, India during Kharif season of 2013-14 and 2014-15 respectively in randomized block design with four replications. The treatments are line sowing/dibbling of seeds, sowing behind the country plough, sowing in polybag and transplanting at 25 and 40 DAS, sowing in portrays and transplanting in 25 and 40 DAS. The redgram variety LRG 41 was used for study. The results revealed that, dibbling of seeds in lines recorded higher grain yield of 2351 kg ha-1, net income of Rs.99495/- and B:C ratio of 3.39. Thus, dibbling of seeds in lines recorded 6% higher over sowing in poly bag and transplanting at 25 DAS and 27% higher yield over sowing behind the country plough. Considering yield and economics, line sowing seems to better option for the farmers followed by sowing in polybags and transplanted in 25 DAS. Under transplanted situation, transplanting of seedlings at 30 DAS was more suitable where the monsoon was delayed for 30 to 45 days under rainfed situation.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2015 on silty clay loam soil at MPKV, Rahuri (MS), to study the varying nutrient management levels on productivity and economics of different soybean varieties. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with 15 combinations of three varieties (KDS-344, JS-9305 and KS-103) and five nutrient management levels ( GRDF, 75% GRDF + 0.5% foliar spray of grade IInd at 30 and 45 DAS, 100% GRDF + 0.5% foliar spray of grade IInd at 30 and 45 DAS, N4: 125% GRDF + 0.5% foliar spray of grade IInd at 30 and 45 DAS and 50:75:30 N, P2O5, K2O kg ha-1 + 5 tons FYM ha-1. The variety KDS-344 and application of nutrient management dose 125% GRDF + 0.5 Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS recorded significantly the highest growth and yield attributes viz., plant height (cm), number of branches, number root of nodules, number of pod plant-1 and weight of seeds plant-1 (g). The variety KDS-344 recorded highest grain and stover (3.66 and 4.64 t /ha) yield and highest economic indices like cost of cultivation (40,623), net monetary returns (87355) and net returns per rupee invested (3.17). The grain yield (4.34 t/ha) and stover yield (4.53 t/ha) of soybean was significantly higher by application of fertilizer dose of 125% GRDF + 0.5% Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS than rest of treatments, but it was also at par with 75% GRDF + 0.5 Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS and 100% GRDF + 0.5% Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS. Similarly, variety KDS-344 and application of nutrient levels of 75 % GRDF + 0.5 % Grade IInd foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAS recorded the highest net returns (82756) and net returns per rupee invested (3.24) in soybean due to reduce in cost of cultivation (36931) and nutrient losses.

Background: Recognizing the adverse impact of excessive use of chemicals on soil health, human health and environment, Government is promoting production of organic crops, fruits and vegetables etc. through various schemes. Demand for organic food items is also on the rise during the last few years. Number of cow-based bio-enhancers and botanicals have been developed by innovative organic growers/ associations and NGOs. But very meagre scientific information is available regarding such formulations. Hence, to incorporate these products in organic farming module, the present experiment was conducted.Methods: A field experiment was conducted in summer season of 2017 to 2019 at Junagadh, Gujarat, India with cow-based bio-enhancers (Panchagavya, Bijamrut, Jivamrut, Amrutpani, Sanjivak and cow urine) and botanicals (Seaweed extract and Banana pseudo stem sap) in randomized block design with three replications. The cow-based formulations were prepared on farm as per the procedure given by National Centre for Organic Farming, Ghaziabad and botanicals viz., banana pseudo stem extract and seaweed extract (Kappaphycus alvarezii) were obtained from Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari and Junagadh Agricultural University, Okha.Result: The results revealed that application of FYM @ 5 t/ha significantly enhanced growth and yield attributes viz., plant height, number of branches/plant, number and dry weight of nodules/plant, number of mature pods/plant, pod weight/plant and shelling percentage and ultimately produced significantly higher pod (1823 kg/ha) and haulm (3270 kg/ha) yields, followed by Panchagavya as foliar spray @ 3% at 30, 45 and 60 DAS (1582 and 2846 kg/ha) and seaweed extract as foliar spray @ 3.5% at 30, 45 and 60 DAS (1423 and 2570 kg/ha). Application of FYM, Panchagavya and seaweed extract also increased uptake of NPK by pod and haulm over the control, while different treatments failed to affect the post-harvest soil fertility except available P which is higher under FYM, Jivamrut, Amrutpani and Sanjivak over the control. Overall, application of FYM and Panchagavya accrued higher net return of `55285 and 46229/ha with B:C of 2.21 and 2.12, respectively.

A field experiment was conducted during 2018 and 2019 at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Agriculture College and Research Institute, Coimbatore to study the impact of weed management practices on yield attributes, economics and phytotoxicity of kharif maize. Ten treatments were tested in randomized block design with three replications viz., pre emergence (PE) atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 fb hand weeding (HW) at 20 DAS, PE atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 fb power weeder (PW) at 20 DAS, PE atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 + pendimethalin at 1 kg a.i. ha-1 (Tank mix), PE atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 + pendimethalin at 1 kg a.i. ha-1 fb HW at 20 DAS, early post emergence (EPoE) topramezone at 25.2 g a.i. ha-1, PE atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 fb EPoE topramezone at 25.2 g a.i. ha-1, EPoE tembotrione at 122 g a.i. ha-1, PE atrazine 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 fb EPoE tembotrione 122 g a.i. ha-1, hand weeding twice at 20 and 45 DAS and control (weedy check). Among the different weed management practices significantly higher yield attributes viz., cob length, cob girth, weight of cob, No. of grain rows cob-1, No. of grains cob-1, grain yield cob-1 was found with hand weeding twice at 20 and 45 DAS and it was at par with atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 as PE  fb topramezone at 25.2 g a.i. ha-1 as EPoE and atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 as PE + tembotrione at 122 g a.i. ha-1 as EPoE. Maximum net return and B:C ratio were recorded under atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 as PE fb topramezone at 25.2 g a.i. ha-1 as EPoE followed by atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 as PE + tembotrione at 122 g a.i. ha-1 as EPoE. However, among the different herbicidal treatments used, all the herbicidal treatments were found to be safe to the maize crop without any caused phototoxic effect on maize during both the years of experimentation. Now-a-days, increased labour scarcity and costs are encouraging farmers to adopt labour and cost- saving options by using chemical method.

The monocropping of rice in the Deltaic zone deteriorates soil health and crop productivity. Seaweeds are marine resources easily available at negligible cost and also rich in bioactive compounds. A field experiment was conducted at Cauvery Delta zone of Tamil Nadu during summer season2021 to evaluate the bio-efficacy of Seaweed extract on growth, yield, and soil properties of rice, Oryza sativa var. ADT53. The experiment was framed in RBD comprising of 12 treatments viz., soil application of Seaweed extract(SWE) @ 12.5kg/ha,25kg/ha, 37.5kg/ha , foliar spraying of SWE gel & liquid @ 0.5% twice at tillering and panicle initiation stages, a combination of soil application and foliar spray and fertilizer alone. Experimental findings revealed that the soil application of SWE  @ 12.5kg/ha along with a foliar spray of seaweed liquid recorded higher plant height (121.1cm),dry matter production (11390kg/ha),yield attributes viz., number of grains per panicle (166), panicle length (21.8 cm), thousand grain weight (14.7g), number of productive tillers per m2 (275), grain yield (5612 kg/ha)and straw yield (7829 kg/ha). However, The soil application of SWE @ 25kg/ha recorded higher soil available nutrients viz.,N(260 kg/ha);P(42kg/ha); K(170kg/ha);Ca(27.7meq/100g); Mg(5.5meq/100g);S(18.2mg/kg);Zn (1.17ppm); Fe (33.82ppm); Cu(1.61ppm);Mn(18.97ppm).The study will help sustain rice productivity and soil fertility in the deltaic zone of Tamil Nadu. The soil application of seaweed extract @ 12.5kg/ha along with foliar spraying (0.5% twice) could be a promising option in the rice ecosystem.

Field experiments were conducted at the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Killikulam, India during the kharif (July to November) and summer (December to April) seasons of 1999 and 2000 in a randomized block design. The treatment consisted of three pre-emergence herbicides (pretilachlor + safener 0.3 kg ha-1 4 days after sowing [DAS], butachlor 1.0 kg ha-1 8 DAS and pendimethalin 1.0 kg ha-1 8 DAS) and one early post-emergence herbicide (butanil 3.0 ha-1 15 DAS), each in combination with mechanical or hand weeding 30 and 45 DAS. In addition, green manure (Daincha) intercropping and incorporation, mechanical and hand weeding twice alone (25 and 50 DAS) were compared with the unweeded check. The results revealed that the pre-emergence application of pretilachlor + safener 0.3 kg ha-1 + hand weeding twice (30 and 45 DAS) promoted higher yield attributes and maximum yield in wet-seeded rice.

A field trial was conducted at Horticultural Research Station, Adilabad of Northern Telangana Zone in Telangana State, India for two consecutive years of 2018 and 2019 with forty five genotypes of dolichos bean. The study was initiated to study the vegetative, floral characters and yield performance of different genotypes. The experiment was laid by adopting Randomized block design with two replications each in 2018 and 2019. Significant variations were noticed in the vegetative, floral characteristics; yield attributes and yields among the different genotypes. Stem pigmentation varied from meager or no pigmentation in 33 genotypes to almost solid in IC-426968 and IC-427428. The leaf colour was green and dark green in 12 and 33 genotypes respectively. The leaf shape was round (IC-426968), lanceolate, ovate lanceolate and ovate in 2, 10 and 32 genotypes. The standard petal colour and keel petal colour varied among the genotypes. It was cream, pink, purple and white. Maximum pod length was reported by IC-427436 and IC-427462 (16.15 cm), mean pod width by PSRJ-12953 (6.36 cm), mean pod weight by IC-427436 (11.05 g) and number of seeds per pod (6.35) by genotype Sambram. The genotype IC-427436 recorded significantly higher pod yield per plant (2713 g) and pod yield per hectare (13563 kg) over rest of the genotypes and it was followed by the genotypes IC-427462 and RND-1.

The field experiment was carried out during rabi season of 2018-2019 at Research farm, Raja Balwant Singh College, Bichpuri Agra,(U.P) to study the effect of different concentrations of zinc and boron as foliar spray on the vegetative growth and yield of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var.bortrytis). Nine treatments with three replications were evaluated in randomized block design. The results revealed that the maximum plant height (44.90 cm), diameter of stem (1.68cm), length (38.90 cm) and width (24.55 cm) of longest leaf were recorded with the foliar spray of 0.50% Zn + 0.2% boron solution .The maximum values of spread of plant along the row(53.51cm)and across the row (55.25 cm) and fully opened leaves per plant (12.94) were recorded with the foliar spray of 0.25% Zn +0.2% boron solution. The yield of cauliflower curd was recorded maximum (343.46 q ha-1) with foliar application of Zn (0.50%) + boron (0.2%). The increase in yield with this treatment was 23.9 % higher than obtained with control (277.13 q ha-1).The lower values of growth and yield attributes were recorded under control .In general combined application of zinc and boron was found significantly superior over their alone application

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of growth retardants on flowering and yield parameters and shelf life of spanish jasmine. The experiment comprised of eleven treatments each replicated thrice was executed following the principles of randomized block design. The treatments included foliar spray of CCC @ 1000, 1500 and 2000 ppm, alar @ 1000, 2000 and 3000 ppm, ethrel @ 1000, 1500 and 2000 ppm, pruning and untreated control. In this study, the application of CCC 1500 ppm exerted favourable influence and enhanced the flower bud characters viz., flower bud length (2.98 cm), flower stalk length (2.36 cm) and total length of the flower (5.34 cm). The yield and yield attributes viz., hundred flower buds weight (9.90 g), flower buds yield plant-1 (4.23 kg), flower buds yield plot-1 (33.84 kg) and flower buds yield hectare-1 (14.1 t ha-1) were also found to be the maximum in the plants treated with CCC 1500 ppm. The plant growth retardants did not show any significant effect on shelf life of flowers.

The effect of molybdenum (Mo) on common bean grown in desiccated corn stover in a no-tillage system was evaluated under two application modes: Mo mixed with the desiccant glyphosate and Mo direct spray to the bean leaves. The treatments (four replicates) were assigned to a completely randomized block design in a split-plot arrangement with the application of Mo (0, 100, 200, 400 and 800 g ha-1) mixed with glyphosate in the main plots and Mo foliar spray (0 and 100 g ha-1) in the sub-plots. The field experiments were carried out in 2009 and 2010 in the municipality of Coimbra, Minas Gerais State, with the common bean cultivar Ouro Vermelho. Mo mixed with glyphosate had neither an effect on common bean yield nor on the Mo and N contents in leaves, however it increased the Mo and N contents in seeds. Application of Mo via foliar spray increased Mo content in leaves and Mo and N contents in seeds. The reapplication of molybdenum with glyphosate for desiccation in subsequent crops caused a cumulative effect of Mo content in bean seeds.
