Agrobiodiversity includes variability at the specific and genetic level, its dynamics and relationships between cultivated plants and their wild relatives. The Theo b ro m a c a c aoL. species has a high cultural and economic value inEcuador because it helps around 100,000 rural families. However, the structure of its wood and the variability of microscopic characteristics between its biotypes is unknown. For this reason, this study seeks to fill th is gap with an anatomical analysis of the wood in its three planes (transverse, tangentia l, a n d radial) according to IAWA regulations in five biotypes of T. cocoa (aromático, criollo, forastero, trinitario y CCN51) from the Piuntza and Guayzimi sectors of the province of Zamora Chinchipe. Itwas found that all biotypes presented simple perforation plates, alternating polygonal pits, diffuse axial parenchyma, multiseriate and uniseriate ra y s , ra y s with procumbent cells of 2-4 rows of vertical and / or marginal square cells,h ow e ve r, th e prismatic crystals, drusen, envelope cells, and perforated radial cells were variable. At a quantitative level, the highest radii were found mainly in the creole and fore ign b io ty pe s , while the CCN51 and trinitariobiotypes obtained higher values in vessels per square millimeter. With this, it was shown that all the individuals analyzed, despite being of the same species, had anatomical differences, which shows that the microscopic study of woo d is a very useful tool for the identification of biotypes within a species. Keywords:Wood anatomy, cacao, biotype, IAWA, agrobiodiversity

Researchers of the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR) and Sverdlovsk Horticultural Breeding Station developed nomenclatural standards for 18 apple cultivars released at the said station: ‘Aksyona’ (WIR-53949), ‘Blagaya Vest’ (WIR-53950), ‘Danila’ (WIR-53952), ‘Isetskoye Pozdneye’ (WIR-53953), ‘Iset Belaya’ (WIR-53954), ‘Krasa Sverdlovska’ (WIR-53955), ‘Papiroyantarnoye’ (WIR-53956), ‘Pervouralskaya’ (WIR-53957), ‘Rodnikovaya’ (WIR-53958), ‘Rumyanka Sverdlovskaya’ (WIR-53959), ‘Sverdlovchanin’ (WIR-53960), ‘Serebryanoye Kopyttse’ (WIR-53961), ‘Sokovoye 3’ (WIR-53962), ‘Tavatuy’ (WIR-53963), ‘Uralets’ (WIR-53964), ‘Fakel’ (WIR-53965), ‘Fermer’ (WIR-53966), and ‘Ekrannoye’ (WIR-53967). Nomenclatural standards serve to confirm the authenticity of a cultivar and its name. They should be kept perpetually in the scientific herbarium collection. Herbarium specimens of nomenclatural standards are formatted in accordance with the recommendations of the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP), registered in the VIR Herbarium Database and included in the Herbarium of Cultivated Plants of the World, Their Wild Relatives, and Weeds (WIR).

The wood anatomy is able to evidence systematic and ecological aspects associated with the evolution and functionality of the secondary xylem. The present study was carried out using wood of Chiococca alba (Rubiaceae) from cerrado (savannah), to describe its anatomy and to verify if the hydraulic architecture of this species corroborates the theory that postulates the functional tendency that optimizes the transport efficiency associated with safety. The anatomical analysis followed the conventional protocols of wood anatomy. Different indexes of wood hydraulics quantification were calculated, such as solitary vessels index, vessel grouping, conductivity, vessel collapse, theoretical resistance to vessel implosion and mesomorphism. The structural characteristics described for C. alba are in agreement with the general anatomical descriptions for the Rubiaceae family that relate the presence of exclusively solitary vessels and small diameter, simple perforation plates, alternate intervessel pits, apotracheal parenchyma in species with non-septate fibers and narrow and heterogeneous rays. The calculated indexes showed that C. alba is a xerophyte species with great resistance to the collapse of the vessels during the transport of water, little vulnerability to embolism and relative efficiency in the transport when compared to other species of its subfamily (Cinchonoideae) in function of the typical low water availability of the savannah soil.

The article substantiates the scientific basis for the protection of wild relatives of cultivated plants in Karakalpakstan. According to the classification, 10 species (or 5, 8%) were included in the category of rare species. These are representatives of 7 families from 9 genera. The category of species whose range is declining includes 9 species from 7 families and 9 genera. Micro-foci of maximum concentration of DSCR were identified, and it was proposed to create 5 more OPTs in them. It is also proposed to declare the populations of Malacocarpus crithmifolius (Retz) C.A. Mey., Amygdalus spinossisima Bunge and Ammodendron longiracemosum Raik as natural monuments.
