The present study deals with Cretaceous- Tertiary unconformity in the southwestern part of the Tripoli- Sabratha Basin Off-Shore Libya (Concession 41). A detailed biostratigraphic study has mainly carried out by means of ditch cutting samples analysis from five wells: F1, N1, G1, P11and K1 NC41. Successive sediments above and below the Cretaceous / Tertiary boundary are related to the following formation: Metlaoui Formation, El Haria Formation (A&B Members), Abiod Formation, Aleg Formation, Doulelb Equivelant Formation and Zebbag or Zebbag Eq. Formation, that have a wide distribution in both  Off-Shore Libya and Tunisia Biostratigraphic analysis led to the identification of Upper and Lower Paleocene Bio-Zones, according to the biostratigraphic scheme proposed by Agip (1985) for the Mediterranean area. In the study area the duration of the Cretaceous / Tertiary hiatus increases from east to west. The South- eastern side of NC41 (well F1) has a minimum hiatus of the Cretaceous/Tertiary unconformity. In the South-western side (Wells N1, G1, P1, &K1) the Cretaceous/Tertiary unconformity increases to reach the maximum hiatus in Well P1 where the Conacian/Santonian sediments (Douleb Eq) are overlain by the Lower Eocene sediment (Metlaoui Formation). Absolute value of the Cretaceous / Tertiary hiatus can be estimated by absence of successive bio-zones. Consequently, minimum approximates to 2 MY marked in Well F1, and maximum hiatus approximates to 30 MY marked in Well P1. The occurrence and relative abundance of planktonic and several benthic foraminiferal taxa can be used to recognize the depositional environments. During most of the Upper Cretaceous and Lower Paleocene deep marine conditions prevailed. Conversely, the Lower Eocene was mainly characterized by shallow marine conditions.

Cretaceous dinosaur footprints discovered in the J Sandstone of the South Platte Formation (Dakota Group) in Colorado and the St. Mary River Formation of southwestern Alberta exhibit the first reported foot pad skin impressions of large ornithopods. The Canadian tracks occur as sandstone casts preserved in mudstones, whereas the Colorado tracks are natural impressions in a sandstone bed overlain by shale. The South Platte Formation tracks occur as impressions in a widespread "dinoturbated" sandstone bed representing low-gradient, delta plain – coastal plain facies assemblages associated with the upper member of the group, the J Sandstone. Only one of the many iguanodontid trackways exhibits good skin impressions.The St. Mary River Formation palaeoenvironment is interpreted as an anastomosed fluvial system that flowed northeast over a low-gradient floodplain from Montana. Footprints, often preserved in trackways, were left as dinosaurs walked across lake and marsh sediments that were relatively well drained or in various stages of dewatering. The quality of preservation is variable, depending on the properties of the substrate, and only one hadrosaur footprint includes clear casts of skin patches on the bottom of the footprint. Similar track-rich facies assemblages, representing lowland coastal plain and deltaic environments, are found in both the Lower (Gething Formation, British Columbia) and Upper Cretaceous (Mesa Verde, Colorado) successions of western North America. Few substrates of these depositional environments were suitable for the preservation of skeletal remains, so the information derived from tracks is palaeontologically significant.

Abstract This paper analyses a number of constructions with a reflexive marker on the verb and a dative argument, using the framework of Construction Grammar. In these constructions the predication is ascribed in various modes to the experiencer argument. We focus on these constructions in the South Slavic languages in which they have a wide distribution, Macedonian, Bulgarian and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS). The following basic types are identified: Emotional processes and states, Accidental, Perception/Cognition and Stative Reflexive-Dative Construction (SRDC). The specific clusters of features in each one are due to the inheritance properties from a reflexive construction, indicating a valence reduction, in combination with the features of affectedness and lack of control, characteristic of a dative argument. This results in varied but multiply linked patterns that create a complex network of constructions. The study aims at defining the relations between these constructions and in particular at determining the place of SRDC in this network.

AbstractMore or less cursory examination of migrating birds in Cyprus revealed 115 of 2580 southward (fall) migrants and 177 of 22015 northward (spring) migrants to be infested by 167 and 797 ticks, respectively. Most ticks on fall migrants were Hyalomma marginatum marginatum Koch; others were Ixodes frontalis (Panz.), I. ricinus (L.), Haemaphysalis concinna Koch, and H. punctata C. & F., all representative of the Eurasian fauna. Most ticks on spring migrants were H. m. rufipes Koch; others were Amblyomma lepidum Dön., A. nuttalli Dön., and A. variegatum (F.), representative of sub-Saharan Africa, and Argas streptopelia Kaiser, Hoogst. & Horner, Ixodes eldaricus Dzhaparidze, and I. redikorzevi Olen. which probably attached to the hosts in the eastern Mediterranean area. In Africa and Eurasia, 16 arboviruses have been recorded from eight of these tick species, and also the agents of boutonneuse fever, Siberian tick typhus, Q fever, and tularaemia. The epidemiological potential of migrating birds is enhanced by the multiplicity of pathogens that may infect them and the biological diversity of ticks that may infest them. The remarkably wide distribution of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus in Africa and Eurasia is likely to be due to intercontinental carriage of the virus and ticks by migrating birds.

This section, which was completed last year, appears of such value and interest to students of the Tertiary strata of the London Basin, that I have thought it worth while to offer a description of it to the readers of the Geological Magazine. Through the courtesy of Dr. Barton, the Governor of the Asylum, I have had free access to the specimens preserved of the various strata passed through, and very careful use of them has been made in the preparation of the tabulated statement which follows; much of the information having been kindly furnished from the engineers who were employed. The Asylum is situated at Knap Hill, about a mile and a quarter from Brookwood Station on the South-Western Eailway, and is on the Upper Bagshot Sands. The mouth of the well is in the valley just below, about 140 feet above O. D., and about the same level as that at which the Middle Bagshot Beds occur in the famous Goldsworthy section, which furnished Prof. Prestwich, some forty years ago, with the clue to the succession of the beds of the Bagshot Formation. It is about a mile and a half distant therefrom. The evidence as to the horizon in the Bagshot Series, at which the well commences, is very clear to those who are familiar with the stratigraphy. The widely-extended pebble-bed at the base of the Upper Bagshot Sands occurs here very near the top of the well, and I saw it exposed again at about the same level in an excavation made by the side of the high road which runs along the western side of the Asylum Estate. The same greenish loamy sand was intermingled with the pebbles in both cases. In the ploughed field a stiff yellow loam, such as so commonly occurs above this pebble-bed in the Bagshot area, crops out in the valley where the well is situated. The ‘brown sandy bed’ which occurs at the top of the section is probably a portion of this, re-constructed by later drift action, and mingled with more sandy materials washed down from the sandy strata situated at higher levels on the slopes of the valley.
