Quality control and improvement at the process level is a vital activity for the achievement of defect-free products in various manufacturing processes. This study employs statistical process control (SPC) tools such as control charts and process capability ratio for quality control and improvement. The control charts employed are , R and the cumulative-sum (CUSUM). The process capability ratio used is the so called process capability index (PCI). These tools have been implemented with the aid of Minitab® statistical software. In this study, the manufacturing process of gelatin capsules is investigated in terms of quality of the capsules, which are produced and shipped for use by various drug companies. As a result of implementation of SPC tools, an expected reduction in the number of defective capsules by 29% relative to the stage before implementation was achieved.

Quality is a benchmark to determine the level of good and bad of a product. The level of quality of a product will affect customer satisfaction, hence, to produce high quality products, it is necessary for a company to have a quality control process. Quality control is a process that aims to maintain the quality of products and services that have been promised to consumers. In this study, quality control is carried out in the sugar packaging process. Where in the sugar packaging process found the resulting product has a poor quality, defective and not in accordance with specifications. This study uses the Statistical Process Control (SPC) method which aims to determine the causes of defective products with the intention that the packaging process can further minimize the level of product defects. The SPC method is a statistical analysis technique with seven statistical tools or seven tools. Based on the results of the study it can be seen that the cause of product damage / defects in the product packaging process is caused by three types of damage namely damage due to conveyor (38.17%), damage due to machine pinched (35.82%), and damage due to loose seams (26,00%) This type of damage can be caused by human error and other factors such as engine condition, engine cleanliness and the monitoring process. Proposed improvements recommended for the company are to provide training to employees, make clear work instructions, conduct periodic maintenance for the machines used, supervise all work areas, and carry out quality control for every acceptance of raw materials.

The main goal of the company is basically to make a profit so that the company is able to grow in the long run. However, the demands of consumers that are constantly changing require companies to be more flexible in meeting consumer demands related to product quality. Therefore, companies must be able to maintain and improve the quality of the products produced. Quality control is important for the company so that the products produced are in accordance with the standards, both the standards set by the company as well as local and international bodies that manage quality standards. In addition, quality products should be in accordance with consumer expectations. This study aims to determine defects in bakery products using Statistical Process Control methods and provide improvement suggestions. The research object is Roti Rahmat which is a small and medium business. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation and interviews with owners and employees. The results showed that the product defects were not uniform at 52.51%, the bread was scorched at 24.55%, the contents of the bread came out at 21.15%, and others at 1.97%. Based on the causal diagram, it is known that the biggest factors that cause product defects are the production process factors and employee factors.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to implement statistical process control (SPC) in service quality using three-level SERVQUAL, quality function deployment (QFD) and internal measure. Design/methodology/approach – The SERVQUAL questionnaire is developed according to internal services of train. Also, it is verified by reliability scale and factor analysis. QFD method is employed for translating SERVQUAL dimensions’ importance weights which are derived from Analytic Hierarchy Process into internal measures. Furthermore, the limits of the Zone of Tolerance are used to determine service quality specification limits based on normal distribution characteristics. Control charts and process capability indices are used to control service processes. Findings – SPC is used for service quality through a structured framework. Also, an adapted SERVQUAL questionnaire is created for measuring quality of train’s internal services. In the case study, it is shown that reliability is the most important dimension in internal services of train for the passengers. Also, the service process is not capable to perform in acceptable level. Research limitations/implications – The proposed algorithm is practically applied to control the quality of a train’s services. Internal measure is improved for continuous data collection and process monitoring. Also, it provides an opportunity to apply SPC on intangible attributes of the services. In the other word, SPC is used to control the qualitative specifications of the service processes which have been measured by SERVQUAL. Originality/value – Since SPC is usually used for manufacturing processes, this paper develops a model to use SPC in services in presence of qualitative criteria. To reach this goal, this model combines SERVQUAL, QFD, normal probability distribution, control charts, and process capability. In addition, it is a novel research on internal services of train with regard to service quality evaluation and process control.

SPC (Statistical Process Control) is one of the Lean Manufacturing techniques, but especially Six Sigma, being a method of improving the quality of the manufacturing process, which allows the identification of errors before their production, with the help of which a process can be supervised and when needed, it is possible to carry out an intervention of regulation, respectively of correction of the process, before being nonconformities. The paper presents a study regarding the use of SPC at a company in the automotive field in order to improve the quality of the manufacturing process for a knuckle. Thus, a number of 25 samples were taken, each sample containing a number of 5 pieces. After sampling, a series of techniques and statistical data were used, respectively diagrams and control sheets, which allowed the determination of the process capability by using MiniTab software.

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate of the quality of the sowing process applied by 10 different producers in their fields in Tokat / Kazova, in the cultivation of grain corn, by Statistical Process Control. In determining of the quality of the sowing process, plant spacing uniformity, seeding depth uniformity and ratio of plant emergence were used. Acceptable plant spacing, the multiples ratio and the miss ratio were determined for planting spacing uniformity on the row. Plant emergence ratio values varied between 59.60% (D field) and 93.13% (B field) in the trial areas. Acceptable plant spacing, the multiples ratio and the miss ratio values ranged from 65.56% - 90.24%, 4.02 - 15.69% and 5.11% - 12.91%, in the trial areas, respectively. It was concluded that the sowing process is generally ‘Moderate’ and ‘Inadequate’ according to the parameters of plant spacing uniformity. Similarly, individual and moving range quality charts prepared for statistical quality control of plant spacing uniformity and seeding depth uniformity showed that the sowing process was not under control. According to these results, it is necessary to take precautions regarding the factors that negatively affect the quality of the sowing process for sustainable agricultural production.

Statistical process control (SPC) technique has become more and more often used for manufacturing process improvement with understanding the process and detecting the process variation. This paper presents a study from a small enterprise classified as OEM supply elevator assembly parts. A process capability study is performed for cutting and drilling processes in order to verify the process capable of consistently meeting the required specification and delivering quality products since increasing a number of rework parts. Why-why analysis was used to identify the root cause and the principles of Poka Yoke and jig & fixture design were then applied by design a measure gauge for cutting and drilling processes. After improvement, the result shows that the Cpk of cutting process increase from 0.19 to 2.72 while Cpk of drilling process also increase from 0.36 to 4.50. Since the Cpk is greater than 1.3 this means that both two processes have a capable to produce the output meet specification.
