In February 1997 a conference entitled ‘Women give voice to women’ brought together scholars from Britain, Europe and the USA to investigate the relationship between feminist theory and practice on the French stage. The starting point for our discussions was to determine how far French women playwrights of the last thirty years have contributed to remoulding what Marcelle Marini referred to as the ‘socio-symbolic space’. We wanted to explore what was new, in theatrical, political and social terms, in the large number of plays and productions by women during this period. A second question was: how useful is French feminist theory as an aid to the illumination of this work?

The following paper deals with methodological features of studying of empires legacy role in policy of the leading powers in the countries of the third world through a prism of asymmetric conflicts historical modeling. The author pays special attention to the role of Great Britain and the USA foreign policy course defining after World War II during Cold War in the second half of the 20th century and Global War on Terror at the beginning of the 21st century. The author pays attention to methodological traps (such as the probability of the research problem on the given variable and terminological confusion) as well as to research opportunities which are opened by such approach in the field of the historical and political analysis (for example, evolution of the international relations theory and practice in the conditions of the world order transformation after World War II). Special attention is given to the value of such methodological reception as asymmetric conflicts historical modeling in expert estimates of the leading powers foreign policy. The paper also deals with the role of expert community and academic expertize as an important component of that analytical operation which is carried out within historical simulation of the asymmetrical conflicts.

The study and generalization of foreign experience is a value for Ukraine, which has set itself the task of integration into the world community and can be an important source of thorough thinking and creative use of positive ideas in domestic theory and practice of physical education and sports. This article analyzes the content and features of the organization of intramural (in-school) sports in the United States. The study found that intramural sports in the United States are an integral part of the overall education program, which provides an opportunity to involve children with different levels of development of motor skills and qualities in motor activities outside of physical education lessons. Participation in intramural sports programs is voluntary. It is determined that the intramural sports program in the United States is characterized by certain features that must be taken into account for its successful implementation. It was found that, first of all, American specialists determine the direction (nature) of the sports program and possible types of physical activity, taking into account the wishes of students; it is important to properly plan and compile a quality schedule for classes in compliance with the capacity of existing sports facilities; it is obligatory to observe the rules of admission of students to classes and competitions, as well as their annual medical examination; implementation of the sports program is carried out with the use of modern information technologies; the accounting and evaluation of the program is constantly carried out; proper administration and quality arbitration are of great importance; special attention is paid to the competition procedure itself and the determination of winners; a special place is given to the financing of programs and their support and promotion.

In this issue of Hypatia there is a consensus that science is not value-neutral and that cultural/political concerns enter into the epistemology, methodology and conclusions of scientific theory and practice. In future dialogues the question that needs to be further addressed is the precise role political concerns should play in the formulation of a feminist theory and practice of science.

AbstractThe purpose of this essay is to explore the implications of #metoo and #aidtoo for understanding nonprofit/nongovernmental organization (NPO/NGO) theory and practice. We provide an overview of how women have experienced sexual violence in the context of NPOs/NGOs and draw on an intersectional feminist theory lens to highlight the context that enables violence to persist, and which requires more than implementing bureaucratic accountability reforms. We end by discussing potential avenues for creating change to end such violence.

This paper addresses some of the concerns inherent in evaluating women’s studies programs and projects. It focuses on the following four areas: a) discussion of objections raised by feminists about traditional forms of assessment; b) consideration of criticisms of traditional evaluations expressed by nontraditional evaluators; c) description of the strengths and weaknesses of illuminative evaluation as an alternative approach to assessing women’s studies programs; and d) introduction of a new model of evaluation which is herein termed “participatory evaluation.” Participatory evaluation is a process allowing for the use of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. It recognizes the importance of the evaluator’s role as knowledgeable insider rather than neutral outsider and facilitates development of trust between assessor and those being assessed. Evaluations based on trust permit a highly interactive form of assessment. Participatory evaluation is not only compatible with feminist theory and practice, but it is also appropriate for the assessment of women’s studies programs and projects.
