Background:Increases in childhood and adolescent obesity are a growing concern in the United States (U.S.), and in most countries throughout the world. Declines in physical activity are often postulated to have contributed to the rise in obesity rates during the past 40 years. Methods:We searched for studies of trends in physical activity and sedentary behaviors of U.S. youth, using nontraditional data sources. Literature searches were conducted for active commuting, physical education, high-school sports, and outdoor play. In addition, trends in sedentary behaviors were examined. Results:Data from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) and other national surveys, as well as longitudinal studies in the transportation, education, electronic media, and recreation sectors showed evidence of changes in several indicators. Active commuting, high school physical education, and outdoor play (in 3- to 12-year-olds) declined over time, while sports participation in high school girls increased from 1971 to 2012. In addition, electronic entertainment and computer use increased during the first decade of the 21st century. Conclusions:Technological and societal changes have impacted the types of physical activities performed by U.S. youth. These data are helpful in understanding the factors associated with the rise in obesity, and in proposing potential solutions.

The passage of Title IX in 1972 in the United States marked the initiation of research agendas, development of curricular programs, creation of pedagogy, and development of environments that address the needs of both women and men equally in educational settings. The purpose of this research was to determine how gender has been studied in extant literature in physical education. In particular, the intent of this research examination was to analyze the extent to which the concept of gender has been addressed in mainstream United States-based (US-based) journals in physical education. The liberal feministic theory guided this research investigation. Data collection involved the selection of five research, theory, and practice-based journals in physical education. Constant comparison method was used to analysis the data for the purpose of determining the themes that emerged from the literature (Goetz & LeCompte, 1984). The findings of the study revealed several perspectives related to gender in physical education. Three major themes emerged from examining the literature and they include program-centered, participation-based, and workplace-connected perspectives as related to occurrences in physical education environments.

Innovative processes in the field of physical culture and sports, understanding the value of health, recognition of high social importance of physical education, promotion of fitness, physical activities and sports, creating a positive public attitude to physical activity and sport through the recognition and respect for the achievements of teams or individual people – all of the above leads to the need of the expansion of the services rendered by means of physical activity and accordingly requires substantial changes in the study of future professionals of physical education and sport. One of the current issues in society today is a lack of professionals in the sphere of physical education and sport. Preparation of these professionals should take into account current global trends of education and the need to consider the experience of leading countries. Methods. Methodological principles of research are: the theory of philosophical knowledge and mutual interdependence of the phenomena of objective reality; an objective study of the development and communication of specific historical conditions based on the unity logical and historical, general and special, theory and practice. Results. The study proved the theory and practice of professional preparation of specialists of physical education and sports in the USA. Scientific theory of the system of such training is generalized. Tendencies of development of physical culture and sports in the US as determinants of modernization of professional preparation of specialists are revealed. The system of professional preparation of specialists of physical education and sports is characterized as one that has a coherent, continuous and differentiated character within university education We studied majors, spheres of physical education and sports, in a wild range of USA universities. The analysis of educational programs, available at these universities, helped us to generalize them as the bachelor programs – academic specializations, which are determined as majors. We outline twelve majors of bachelor's levels which correspond with the titles of bachelor’s specializations. Data of the comparative analysis of curriculum shows that it structure hascommon and quite unified character and consists of three key components: general education, field disciplines and major courses. It was found that for the Parks, recreation, leisure, and fitness studies divides these components pretty much alike and displays slight divergences not as much in the content of curricula as in the titles of the studied disciplines. Four years is provided for a bachelor's degree education, during which the student assimilates a set of academic courses within 120 credits. Selection process at the universities is based on grade requirements for academic courses. Hence only 14–15 % of the students on average complete bachelors degree in the USA.It is studied that in US schools traditional forms of learning and modern interactive technologies are practiced. Current control and selection provide quality of professional preparation of specialists. Universities and colleges in the United States available additional paid spring and summer semester lasting 1–3 weeks to eliminate the «debt» capture additional students in disciplines such additional payment semesters.

Abstract The present research was constructed with the idea of offering a detailed view on one of the most important legislative papers of the United States of America (USA), namely, the Small Business Act of 1953. The public policy sector in the USA is a rather complex area of research, and the qualitative study performed through the content analysis has been based on external factors within the Small Business Administration (SBA) for the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector in the USA, in terms of financial assistance, regulations and directives, as well as access to information, knowledge and know-how regarding the national and international markets. As a result, the article underlines important elements for both theory and practice. The content analysis performed on the SBA has suggested that, given the administration’s organisational chart and programmes of the American SBA, the latter pushes towards an impersonal connection between the administration and the SME sector through the existence of the business development centres created with the main purpose of assisting the SMEs in their activity.

The study examines the ideological foundations and prerequisites for the independence of the British colonies in North America. We examine the construction of the state system, first passing through the confederate model of state organization, which is the closest to the traditions of the colonial period. However, it failed due to some "defects" of the Articles of Confederation of 1777, the main one being the lack of financial security to pursue union politics. In 1787, the Constitutional Convention drafted a constitution for the United States, with centralism and unitarism prevailing in the discussions, abandoning some of the principles that prompted the Americans to begin the struggle for independence. The Constitution of 1787 and the Declaration of Rights, adopted two years later, put into practice the ideas of the European Enlightenment, supplemented by English parliamentary theory and practice. This creates a solid foundation for the development of the United States and the prosperity of the young "nation."

Interest in the fate of the German psychoanalysts who had to flee Hitler's Germany and find refuge in a new nation, such as the United States, has increased. The ‘émigré research’ shows that several themes recur: (1) the theme of ‘loss’ of one's culture, homeland, language, and family; and (2) the ambiva-lent welcome these émigrés received in their new country. We describe the political-social-cultural context that existed in the United States during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Documentary evidence found in the FBI files of three émigré psychoanalysts, Clara Happel, Martin Grotjahn, and Otto Fenichel, are then presented in combination with other source material. This provides a provisional impression of how each of these three individuals experienced their emigration. As such, it gives us elements of a history. The FBI documents suggest that the American atmosphere of political insecurity and fear-based ethnocentric nationalism may have reinforced their old fears of National Socialism, and contributed to their inclination to inhibit or seal off parts of them-selves and their personal histories in order to adapt to their new home and become Americanized. They abandoned the rich social, cultural, political tradition that was part of European psychoanalysis. Finally, we look at these elements of a history in order to ask a larger question about the appropriate balance between a liberal democratic government's right to protect itself from internal and external threats on the one hand, or crossover into the blatant invasion of civil rights and due process on the other.
