Computing virtualization is the key technology in cloud computing as it can reduce the investment in the hardware component drastically. The present research work carefully analyse some of the major security threats to the cloud services based on the security threat analysis produced by Cloud Security Alliance (CSA). The physical network components are not necessarily located on the same geographical area but yet are doing the necessary processing and storage. As such, “cloud computing” will be the driving force behind most of today's promising computing technologies. Security will be always an issue which needs to be addresses at two different levels: front-end and back-end. In a nutshell, cloud computing is hugely beneficial for the enterprise and while still evolving, will be around for the long-term. It is crucially important for those enterprises which will adopt the cloud computing model to put long-term security strategy in place. Knowledge of cloud architecture, technology, process, services, and deployment models is vital in specifying security models and identifying security concerns in cloud computing. As the providers and end users increase, standardization and security techniques will play an important role in helping organizations to reduce risks involved. This survey also illustrates the view of cloud providers’ actions and assessment of the cloud-computing services provided by them to the IT users.

SummaryCloud computing seems to solve many problems of conventional data processing. Due to the flexibility, mobility, and cost savings, users can customize their computing power more efficiently. However, there are also disadvantages. Users in part lose control over their data, e. g. they do not know where, how and under what circumstances their data is stored and processed, or who has access to their data. We describe the benefits and risks of cloud services and their impact on the acceptance and use on the (end-) users. We conclude that trust in cloud computing is a key factor that mitigates risks and can make the use of cloud computing services more effective.

In the present article foreign and domestic experience of integrating cloud computing into pedagogical process of higher educational establishments (H.E.E.) has been generalized. It has been stated that nowadays a lot of educational services are hosted in the cloud, e.g. infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS). The peculiarities of implementing cloud technologies by H.E.E. in Ukraine and abroad have been singled out; the products developed by the leading IT companies for using cloud computing in higher education system, such as Microsoft for Education, Google Apps for Education and Amazon AWS Educate have been reviewed. The examples of concrete types, methods and forms of learning and research work based on cloud services have been provided.

Many higher education institutions in sub-Saharan Africa have been blending traditional face-to-face delivery with various Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to meet the strong demand for higher education as well as to improve the quality of traditional campus programs. Despite the increased adoption of various forms of blended learning in the region, the cost of acquiring and managing ICT infrastructure remained to be the biggest challenge. While cloud computing can provide powerful computing at a fraction of the cost of traditional ICT infrastructure, its potential to enhance blended learning in higher education in sub-Saharan Africa is unexplored. This chapter proposes deployment and adoption strategy of cloud computing to enhance blended learning services in the region. This work contributes towards helping higher education in sub-Saharan Africa to understand cloud services and to make plans for successful migration of computing services into cloud.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the Ukrainian market for the spread of cloud technologies, an overview of growth dynamics, application segments and identifies leading companies that offer services using cloud computing. According to the unanimous forecasts of the world’s leading consulting companies, the rapid improvement and spread of cloud computing is now one of the key trends that in the next 5-8 years will significantly affect the global development of not only the IT industry but also business, finance, public administration, medicine, education and many other areas of human life. Prospects for the rapid development of cloud services in Ukraine encourage more careful consideration of the experience of their application in more «mature» markets and identify the main benefits and risks of these technologies in local conditions. People perceive the cloud as a platform only for storage and computing. However, there are many other opportunities that cloud technologies offer with cloud computing. Currently, cloud computing technologies are becoming increasingly popular. The advantages of this technology are obvious: economy, speed, elasticity, versatility of access. In the future, their use will create a powerful information and telecommunications system, which will be a technological solution for the construction and development of new infrastructure in the country. The world’s largest IT vendors (Microsoft, Amazon, Google and others) somehow implement cloud computing services, providing a wide range of opportunities for users. Thus, cloud computing is software and hardware that is available to the user via the Internet (or local network) in the form of a service that allows you to use a user-friendly web interface for remote access to dedicated resources (computing resources, programs and data). Thus, cloud computing is the next stage of information development of mankind.

Cloud computing is a model that aims to deliver a reliable, customizable and scalable computing environment for end-users. Cloud computing is one of the most widely used technologies embraced by sectors and academia, offering a versatile and effective way to store and retrieve documents. The performance and efficiency of cloud computing services always depend upon the performance of the execution of user tasks submitted to the cloud system. Scheduling of user tasks plays a significant role in improving the performance of cloud services. Accordingly, many dependent task scheduling algorithms have been proposed to improve the performance of cloud services and resource utilization; however, most of the techniques for determining which task should be scheduled next are inefficient. This research provided an enhanced algorithm for scheduling dependent tasks in cloud that aims at improving the overall performance of the system. The Dependent tasks were represented as a directed acyclic graph (DAG) and the number of dependent tasks and their total running time were used as a heuristic for determining which path should be explored first. Best first search approach based on the defined heuristic was used to traverse the graph to determine which task should be scheduled next. The results of the simulation using WorkflowSim toolkit showed an average improvement of 18% and 19% on waiting time and turnaround time were achieved respectively.

The article deals with the problems of the organization of the educational environment of higher educational institutions. The purpose of the article is to determine cloud computing as the most effective means of forming a unified educational environment of the university, providing a reliable organization of the educational process in the field of providing educational services in the “one window” mode in various social, political and economic conditions. Based on the analysis of modern platforms for organizing the educational environment and based on current trends in the IT market, Cloud Computing is currently one of the most promising areas. The article defines the essence of cloud computing, which is to provide hosting users with remote access to services, computing resources and applications over the Internet. Examples of the use of cloud technologies in the public sector and education are given. The main types of services provided by the Russian cloud services market (Saas and Iaas) are described. The implementation of the” National Cloud Platform O7″, developed by Rostelecom, is discussed in more detail. The advantages of organizing the educational environment with the help of cloud technologies are considered. Stand out. characteristic features of the Cloud Computing concept, various types of clouds are considered, their advantages and disadvantages. The organization of a unified educational environment of a higher educational institution through cloud computing is a promising direction that allows achieving high technological efficiency: while reducing the cost of purchasing special software and hardware, the quality and efficiency of the educational process in the conditions of digitalization of the economy significantly improves, and it also becomes possible to provide educational services in the “one window” mode, which is a priority of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Cloud computing is a new paradigm that promises to move IT a step further towards utility computing, in which computing services are delivered as a utility service. Traditionally, Cloud employs dedicated resources located in one or more data centres in order to provide services to clients. Desktop Cloud computing is a new type of Cloud computing that aims at providing Cloud capabilities at low or no cost. Desktop Clouds harness non dedicated and idle resources in order to provide Cloud services. However, the nature of such resources can be problematic because they are prone to failure at any time without prior notice. This research focuses on the resource allocation mechanism in Desktop Clouds. The contributions of this chapter are threefold. Firstly, it defines and explains Desktop Clouds by comparing them with both Traditional Clouds and Desktop Grids. Secondly, the paper discusses various research issues in Desktop Clouds. Thirdly, it proposes a resource allocation model that is able to handle node failures.
