<p>The practical limitations inherent to human and robotic planetary exploration necessitate the development of specific protocols, instrumentations and methods. This non-standard approach implies testing and validation phases in order to optimize the setups and to improve the scientific interpretations prior to, during, and after a mission. These tests are made either using space instruments or representative systems and are carried out on ‘analogue samples’ and/or in ‘analogue sites’. Analogues can be globally defined as objects or sites having compositions and/or physical properties similar to specific extraterrestrial objects.</p> <p>Nevertheless, due to the variability in composition and properties of natural materials, there are always – inevitably – some differences between the analogue and the object(s) to which it refers. In studies using analogues, it is thus important to focus on the specific properties that need to be imitated and to consider analogue properties rather than analogue sites or samples alone.</p> <p>Thus, we recently introduced the concept of “functional analogues” (Foucher <em>et al.</em>, 2021).  Functional analogues are defined as terrestrial sites, materials or objects exhibiting general properties more or less similar to those anticipated on the targeted extraterrestrial body, but having specific analogue properties that are highly or perfectly relevant for a given use.</p> <p>Based on this definition, we sorted functional analogues according to their utility for different domains, from engineering to astrobiology, throughout the timeline of space missions. Local wisdom is one of the characteristics national culture that deserves to be explored and developed in the future. Honey production is carried out by maintaining traditional nest making that utilizes natural materials are local wisdom that is still applied. The purpose of this study is to (1) reveal the local wisdom in natural forest honey management, (2) the amount of natural forest honey produced by the community from periau using tikung techniques in the area of Siawan Belida, Nanga Tuan Village, Bunut Hilir Subdistrict, Kapuas Hulu Regency. The method used a survey with interview techniques, the selection of respondents are choosing all Nanga Tuan periau. The results of the study revealing local wisdom in preserving natural honey bees with tikung techniques in the Siawan Belida area, namely; tikung, making tikung, selecting trees for installation of tikung, agreement on division of territory in lakes (suak), sanctions for tree destroyers, sanctions for tikung hives burglars, pre-harvesting ceremonies, conditions of harvesting natural forest honey, harvesting honey bees process, honey treatment after harvesting at home. Tree preservation efforts of tikung honey bee techniques based on local wisdom, including; stipulation of forest lake areas in the management of tikung honey, types of feed for Apis dorsata bees. The amount of natural forest honey is 5- 8 tons / year with planting done twice / year.Keywords : local wisdom, natural honey bees, Siawan Belida, tikung techniques

The main ways to strengthen and increase the resourse of wheelset bandage as result of which it is determined that the most economical and quick-to-implement method is the use of tribotechnical materials are considered. The main disadvantage in using of tribotechnical materials is the limited temperature range of rolling stock operation is determined. Qualitative selection of anti-wear and heat-resistant additives, as well as binder is perfomed based on the physical properties required for tribotechnical materials and the range of component content in the lubricant is determined. The wear resistance of wheelset bands is increased by 28 % as result of performance tests.

Nowadays, it is possible to achieve low cost and short production times space missions using satellites with a mass below 10 kg. These small satellites are described as nanosatellites. Current microelectronic technology makes it possible to develop nanosatellites for scientific experiments and relatively complex measurements (as well as for other applications), making it easy for universities and small research groups to have access to space science exploration and to exploit the new economic possibilities that emerge. This paper describes an experiment developed in Argentina at the Universidad Nacional del Comahue to design, construct and flight test a nanosatellite called Pehuensat-1. Finally is presented to Pehuensat-2 as future commercial nano-satellite.

Primary aspects to be considered include understanding of the product's intended use and details of the product design. This article reviews these primary considerations for sterilization modality selection and demonstrates the sterilization modality selection process through several example case studies.

As the need for nasal, ocular, spinal, and articular therapeutic compounds increases, toxicology assessments of drugs administered via these routes play an important role in human safety. This symposium outlined the local and systemic evaluation to support safety during the development of these drugs in nonclinical models with some case studies. Discussions included selection of appropriate species for the intended route; conducting nonclinical studies that closely mimic the intended use with adequate duration; functional assessment, if deemed necessary; evaluation of local tissues with special histological staining procedure; and evaluations of safety margins based on local and systemic toxicity.

The weberite structure (A 2 B 2 X 7) is an anion-deficient fluorite-related superstructure. Compared with fluorites, the reduction in the number of anions leads to a decrease in the coordination number of the B cations (VI coordination) with respect to the A cations (VIII coordination), thus allowing the accommodation of diverse cations. As a result, weberite compounds have a broad range of chemical and physical properties and great technological potential. This article summarizes the structural features of weberite and describes the structure in several different ways. This is the first time that the stacking vector and stacking angle are used to represent the weberite structure. This paper also discusses the crystallographic relationship between weberite, fluorite and pyrochlore (another fluorite-related structure). The cation sublattices of weberite and pyrochlore are correlated by an axial transformation. It has been shown that the different coordination environment of anions is due to the alternating layering of the AB 3 and A 3 B close-packed cation layers. A stability field of weberite oxides is proposed in terms of the ratio of ionic radius of cations and relative bond ionicity. In addition, a selection of weberite compounds with interesting properties is discussed.

AbstractHaving been inspired by the leaflet, ‘Natuursteen in Maastricht. Aardrijkskunde in een oude stad’, written by P.J. Felder and published in 1977, we here present descriptions of the main types of natural stones applied in the city of Maastricht. A concise overview of the provenance area, mineralogy and physical properties of a selection of so-called historical building stones used in Maastricht, from Roman times onwards, is given. On a walk, starting at the Natuurhistorisch Museum Maastricht and ending at the Vrijthof, the main square of the city of Maastricht, details of building stones seen on the way are highlighted.

In this chapter a critical analysis about natural materials to enhance energy performance and thermal comfort in indoor and outdoor spaces is dealt with. In particular, thermal insulation and passive cooling application in buildings are analyzed. The physical properties permitting to achieve these benefits are presented, as well as the method and the international standards to measure them. Benefits deriving from these materials’ employment as insulation layers or buildings envelope in general of, or in the case of urban paving, are described and then the single materials are illustrated.Experimental and numerical data, as reported in the bibliography, support the dissertation with examples from the most recent research contributions.
