In New Brunswick flooding occurs typically during the spring freshet, though, in recent years, midwinter thaws have led to flooding in January or February. Municipalities are therefore facing a pressing need to perform risk assessments in order to identify communities at risk of flooding. In addition to the identification of communities at risk, quantitative measures of potential structural damage and societal losses are necessary for these identified communities. Furthermore, tools which allow for analysis and processing of possible mitigation plans are needed. Natural Resources Canada is in the process of adapting Hazus-MH to respond to the need for risk management. This requires extensive data from a variety of municipal, provincial, and national agencies in order to provide valid estimates. The aim is to establish a data warehouse to store relevant flood prediction data which may be accessed thru Hazus. Additionally, this data warehouse will contain tools for On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) and knowledge discovery to quantitatively determine areas at risk and discover unexpected dependencies between datasets. The third application of the data warehouse is to provide data for online visualization capabilities: web-based thematic maps of Hazus results, historical flood visualizations, and mitigation tools; thus making flood hazard information and tools more accessible to emergency responders, planners, and residents. This paper represents the first step of the process: locating and collecting the appropriate datasets.

Flood risk reduction strategies play an important role in flood risk management (FRM) and these strategies are being co-designed with the engagement of the stakeholder through multiple consultations and co-designing sessions. Effective participation of stakeholders in interactive work sessions requires fast and accurate modeling systems with a user-friendly interface, which can simulate the impact due to various flood reduction measures selected by the stakeholders and also generate outputs that can be understood by all stakeholders, especially those who are not FRM specialists. Presenting an easy-to-understand tool with easy inputs and outputs for a variety of stakeholders and at the same time providing reliable and accurate results for a range of scenarios and interventions is a challenge. Seven requirements that are essential for a user-friendly flood risk tool were used to develop an instant flood risk modeling tool. This paper presents a web-based hydraulic tool, i.e., instant flood risk model (Inform), to support FRM in the urban center of Can Tho city (Ninh Kieu district), Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Inform was developed based on (i) a simplified 1D model for the entire Mekong Delta; and (ii) flood hazard and damage maps, and estimated flood damage for Ninh Kieu district in Can Tho city obtained directly from the 1D/2D coupled model for Ninh Kieu district. Inform rapidly generates flood levels, flood hazard and damage maps, estimated damages. Pilot testing with experts confirmed that Inform qualifies as a reliable co-design tool for developing FRM strategies as it features an inbuilt input library, comprises flexible options, easy to use, produces quick results and has a user-friendly interface. With the help of an interactive web-based tool such as Inform presented here, it is possible to co-design FRM strategies for Can Tho or any other city that is subject to flood risk.

ABSTRACT<br />Information on sales data required by the owner at Lilola Boutique as a basis for decision making and strategy . On the other hand, the large amount of transactional sales data that occurs at any time causes problems in these analyze process. To solve these problem, an OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing) application was built. OLAP application is designed using the CodeIgniter framework which produces a fast and reliable web-based application and data warehouse as its database. To produce a good data warehouse, the Nine Step Kimball method were used. Stages of this method produced a snowflake scheme as a storage place for data warehouse. The implementation of the system design could produced the OLAP report required by Lilola Boutique. Testing the system using black box testing method that showed the performance of applications that run well. From the results of this study can be concluded that OLAP application made the process of sales transaction data analysis to produce reports as the basis of the decision-making process.<br />Keywords: Sales, OLAP, Data Warehouse, Nine Step Kimball<br />ABSTRAK<br />Informasi mengenai data penjualan dibutuhkan oleh owner pada Lilola Boutique sebagai dasar untuk pengambilan keputusan dan penentuan strategi perusahaan. Di sisi lain, banyaknya data transaksi penjualan yang terjadi setiap harinya menyebabkan kesulitan dalam proses analisa dan pengambilan keputusan. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, dibangun sebuah aplikasi OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing). Perancangan aplikasi OLAP dirancang menggunakan framework CodeIgniter yang menghasilkan aplikasi berbasis web yang handal dan cepat dan data warehouse sebagai basis datanya. Untuk menghasilkan data warehouse yang baik, digunakan metode perancangan Nine Step Kimball. Tahapan metode ini menghasilkan rancangan snowflake schema sebagai tempat penampungan data warehouse. Implementasi rancangan sistem dapat menghasilkan laporan OLAP yang dibutuhkan oleh pihak Lilola Boutique. Pengujian sistem menggunakan metode black box testing yang menghasilkan unjuk kerja aplikasi yang berjalan dengan baik. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa sistem aplikasi OLAP dapat membantu proses pengolahan data transaksi penjualan untuk menghasilkan laporan yang berkualitas sebagai dasar dalam pengambilan keputusan.<br />Kata Kunci: Penjualan, OLAP, Data Warehouse, Nine Step Kimball

Background: Numerous E – Migrants databases assist the migrants to locate their peers in various countries; hence contributing largely in communication of migrants, staying overseas. Presently, these traditional E – Migrants databases face the issues of non – scalability, difficult search mechanisms and burdensome information update routines. Furthermore, analysis of migrants’ profiles in these databases has remained unhandled till date and hence do not generate any knowledge. Objective: To design and develop an efficient and multidimensional knowledge discovery framework for E - Migrants databases. Method: In the proposed technique, results of complex calculations related to most probable On-Line Analytical Processing operations required by end users, are stored in the form of Decision Trees, at the pre- processing stage of data analysis. While browsing the Cube, these pre-computed results are called; thus offering Dynamic Cubing feature to end users at runtime. This data-tuning step reduces the query processing time and increases efficiency of required data warehouse operations. Results: Experiments conducted with Data Warehouse of around 1000 migrants’ profiles confirm the knowledge discovery power of this proposal. Using the proposed methodology, authors have designed a framework efficient enough to incorporate the amendments made in the E – Migrants Data Warehouse systems on regular intervals, which was totally missing in the traditional E – Migrants databases. Conclusion: The proposed methodology facilitate migrants to generate dynamic knowledge and visualize it in the form of dynamic cubes. Applying Business Intelligence mechanisms, blending it with tuned OLAP operations, the authors have managed to transform traditional datasets into intelligent migrants Data Warehouse.

AbstractEmergency planners and first responders often access web-based information resources during disasters; however, these tools require an active Internet connection, which may be unavailable during a disaster. The National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides several free non-web-based disaster response tools. This study assessed intention to use web-based and non-web-based informational and response tools during disasters among emergency responders and librarians. Educational workshops were held in four Missouri cities in spring, 2016. The NLM tools were presented and attendees practiced using the tools during disaster scenarios. Pre- and post-intervention data about NLM tool awareness and intention to use these tools versus other web-based resources was collected. McNemar tests assessed a pre/post change in intention to use each resource. Four workshops were held, with a total of 74 attendees. Intention to use the NLM tools was low prior to the workshops (range: 20.3–39.2%), but increased significantly immediately afterwards (p < .001 for all pre/post comparisons). The workshops resulted in increased NLM tool awareness and increased intention to use the tools during future disasters. This provides evidence of attendees’ perceptions of the usefulness of the non-web-based NLM tools in place of other web-based tools in situations without Internet access.

Recently, the maturity models for risk management are attracting growing attention. The obtained maturity level defines an assessment of an organization’s management competence. Therefore, as a set of various tools and practices, the maturity model is critical for a company’s overall risk maintenance strategy development and implementation. Thus, the purpose of this article is to present a model for risk management maturity for logistic processes. We investigated the main defined assessment areas for risk maturity model implementation in logistic systems. Based on research findings, we introduced a new risk maturity assessment area based on participation in the supply chain—cooperation at risk. The proposed model constitutes the base for a two-stage assessment method implementation, where the global maturity index is introduced. Finally, we implement the proposed two-stage assessment method to verify the proposed model’s diagnostic function and determine its labor intensity. The study confirmed that the five defined maturity areas (knowledge, risk assessment, process risk management, cooperation at risk, and risk monitoring) provide a complex diagnostic tool for risk maturity level identification and, based on the obtained results, allows to define an appropriate development strategy for a given decision-making environment.

The advent of the Internet has significantly changed consumption patterns and habits. Online grocery shopping is a way of purchasing food products using a web-based shopping service. The current COVID-19 pandemic is determining a rethinking of purchase choice elements and of consumers’ behavior. This work aims to investigate which characteristics can affect the decision of online food shopping during the pandemic emergency in Italy. In particular, the work aims to analyze the effects of a set of explanatory variables on the level of satisfaction for the food online shopping experience. For achieving this aim, the proportional odds version of the cumulative logit model is carried out. Data derive from an anonymous on-line questionnaire administrated during the first months of the pandemic and filled by 248 respondents. The results of this work highlight that people having familiarity with buying food online, that have a higher educational level and consider food online channels easy to use, appear more satisfied for the food online shopping experience. These findings can be crucial for the future green global challenges as online shopping may help to reach competitive advantages for company sustainability.
