Network security has become more important to personal computer users, organizations, and the military. With the advent of the internet, security became a major concern and the history of security allows a better understanding of the emergence of security technology. The entire field of network security is vast and in an evolutionary stage. The range of study encompasses a brief history dating back to internet’s beginnings and the current development in network security. In order to understand the research being performed today, background knowledge of the importance of security, types of attacks in the networks. This paper elaborates theliterature study on network security in various domains in the year 2013 to 2018. Finally, it summarizes the research directions by literature survey.

This paper presents the main issues regarding the network security issues and solutions to fight back the cyber-attacks.


It has become crucial for the organizations, military and personal computer users to make the network security. Day by day, security has become a major issue with the increase of internet usage. The improvement in the security technology can be much understood from the security history. Network security is an immense field and it is in development stage. An immense amount of data is being generated every second due to technological advancement and reforms. Social networking and cloud computing are generating a huge amount of data every second. Every minute data is being captured in the computing world from the click of the mouse to video people tend to watch generating an immediate recommendation. Everything a user is doing on the internet is being captured in different ways for multiple intents. Now it all ends up monitoring the system and network and, securing lines and servers. This mechanism is called Intrusion Detection System(IDS). Hacker uses multiple numbers of ways to attack the system which can be detected through a number of algorithm and techniques. A comprehensive survey of some major techniques of machine learning implemented for detecting intrusions. Classification techniques are SVM, Random Forest algorithm, Extreme learning machine, and Decision Tree. NSL-KDD is the dataset used to get the higher rate of detection. The Result Analysis shows that, in terms of accuracy, this paper accomplishes better results when compared to any other related methods.

In today’s world, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is one of the significant tools used to the improvement of network security, by detecting attacks or abnormal data accesses. Most of existing IDS have many disadvantages such as high false alarm rates and low detection rates. For the IDS, dealing with distributed and massive data constitutes a challenge. Besides, dealing with imprecise data is another challenge. This paper proposes an Intrusion Detection System based on big data fuzzy analytics; Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) method is used to cluster and classify the pre-processed training dataset. The CTU-13 and the UNSW-NB15 are used as distributed and massive datasets to prove the feasibility of the method. The proposed system shows high performance in terms of accuracy, precision, detection rates, and false alarms.

Intrusion detection system as a proactive network security technology, is necessary and reasonable to add a static defense. However, the traditional exceptions and errors detecting exist issues of leakage police, the false alarm rate or maintenance difficult. In this paper, The intrusion detection system based on data mining with statistics, machine learning techniques in the detection performance, robustness, self-adaptability has a great advantage. The system improves the K-means clustering algorithm, focus on solving two questions of the cluster center node selection and discriminating of clustering properties, the test shows that the system further enhance the detection efficiency of the system.

This paper studies the security problems of campus network and summarizes the current on the current security risks and threats that campus network faces, focusing on analysis of attack-defense strategies on DOS network layer, proposing the security program of campus network which uses firewall as well as network security intrusion detection system snort. This paper analyzes the functional advantages of the program and presents in details the setup deployment and collocation methods of network security intrusion detection system based on snort in the campus network, and its application results are also summarized.

<p><em>Perkembangan teknologi informasi, khususnya jaringan komputer memungkinkan terjadinya pertukaran informasi yang mudah, cepat dan semakin kompleks. Keamanan jaringan komputer harus diperhatikan guna menjaga validitas dan integritas data serta informasi yang berada dalam jaringan tersebut. Masalah yang dihadapi adalah adanya Log Bug yang didapatkan pada komputer server Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Kota Batam yang diindikasikan adanya serangan Denial of Service (DoS) pada komputer tersebut. Berdasarkan masalah diatas maka penulis mencoba membuat sebuah penelitian yang berjudul “Analisis Network Security Snort menggunakan metode  Intrusion Detection System (IDS) untuk Optimasi  Keamanan Jaringan Komputer” dan diharapkan dapat mendeteksi serangan Denial of Service (DoS). Intrusion Detection System (IDS)  adalah sebuah tool, metode, sumber daya yang memberikan bantuan untuk melakukan identifikasi, memberikan laporan terhadap aktivitas jaringan komputer. Aplikasi yang digunakan untuk mendeteksi serangan menggunakan Snort. Snort dapat mendeteksi serangan DoS. Serangan DoS dilakukan dengan menggunakan aplikasi Loic.</em></p>
