Vandalism is a menace that affects all types of libraries, especially academic libraries. Academic libraries are an integral part of an institution of higher learning. Librarians are considered curators of a library collection and they need to be aware of the ills of vandalism. They should adequately be prepared to deal with this menace. This paper examines the problems of vandalism being faced by the librarians. Various types of vandalism that occur in the libraries have been reported in this paper. The researcher has also highlighted the costs associated with vandalism along with vandalism prevention strategies.

Internet technology has been revolutionary over the years especially in the educational sector. However, the utility of internet technology in the learning process of a student in a higher learning institution has not been determined over the years. This has been due to the evolution that has taken place in education. This paper aims at helping in the development of an algorithmic model that will be used for the prediction of internet technology utilization in learning. Specifically, the research will focus on modelling the Cobb- Douglas production theorem to predict the learning output of a given student considering the utility of the internet technology, the infrastructural investment made by the institution of higher learning and the effort of the student. The results of this ongoing research will eventually be of great importance in helping institutions of higher learning determine their returns after investing in internet technology. The students will also be informed on how to use the internet technology in a better way in order to get the best out of the resource.

Performance appraisal (PA) is an important activity in any organisation. Employers have the responsibility of evaluating the work performance of each and every employee. In acknowledgement of this, most organizations persist in conducting performance appraisals despite numerous problems and constraints. This research attempts to determine the influence of performance appraisal as antecedents of job satisfaction among employees in a selected public institution of higher learning in Sarawak, East Malaysia. Quantitative methodology using an adapted questionnaire with statistical tests like Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression (Stepwise) were utilised to analyse the data. The findings indicated that the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of PA have a positive and significant relationship with job satisfaction. Results also revealed that the strengths of PA is one of significant factors contributing to job satisfaction among employee on the practice of performance appraisal system.

Any contemporary academic library is created to meet the needs of the faculty member, researchers, and students in providing access to educational and scientific resources that go beyond traditional sour-ces of information such as books, textbooks, and magazines. Building a library collection is a scrupulous process involving not only librarians, but also the academic staff of the university. This process is highly dynamic, since it should ensure the quality of the provided educational services of the university, as well as contribute to the development of its scientific potential. Most institution of higher learning are implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP) in automating various activities. The architecture of most of the ERP is based on the service-oriented architecture (SOA) where each module can be called as service. In most of the contracts signed between the vendor and the university, payment is tied to the level of implementation. The question is how to then measure the level of implementation. This chapter proposes a metric that could be used. The metric was derived based on an acceptance test on each of functionality of module as per terms of reference. The result of a test was rated as a fail; the result was then coded such that a fail was assigned a zero (0), pass one (1), and query a half (½), from which a metric was derived which measures the level implementation.

Access to information for all is a major component of library and information science in this digital era. Libraries in institutions of higher learning are mandated to provide information to all the patrons regardless of their ability to deal with the issue of inclusivity and social justice. A study on the innovations was conducted specifically for patrons with special needs in academic libraries. Different assistive technological types of equipment were outlined as well as the challenges encountered when using the assistive technology tools and applications. The observation was done at one of the academic libraries, and it was discovered that the library has a disability center that is used by patrons with special needs and manned by a trained librarian. The authors recommend the introduction of such services in all the academic libraries to cater to patrons with special needs.
