Using data from the Upper East Region of Northern Ghana, this study examined the influence of mobile money on well-being and development from a competence standpoint. The data reveals that mobile money use has a variety of capability-enhancing effects, ranging from empowerment to engage in the financial system to choice and agency to satisfy multiple functions that lead to higher well-being outcomes in work, health, and education. Erratic power supply and a weak network signal in some places are unfreedoms that must be removed in order for people to benefit from mobile money's enormous potential for well-being and human progress. The long-term reliance on family and social networks for financial assistance is a capability-decreasing element of mobile money. The study's findings indicate the need for development researchers to embrace a diverse and pragmatic conceptualisation of development in information and communication technologies.

This study surveyed the residents of El Limón de Ocoa, a remote mountaintop agricultural community in the Dominican Republic, to examine how the community has integrated the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) since the establishment of a local telecenter in 1997. As the longest continuous-running independent telecenter in the Caribbean nation, this site provides a rich testing ground for the study of the impact of community-driven ICT adoption in under-privileged rural areas of the Western hemisphere. Analysis of survey data found that this remote agricultural community was able to leverage ICTs available at the telecenter in ways that promote social change, foster community prosperity, solidarity, and well-being.

Measuring the impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on the economy is a major challenge and a research question standing at the forefront of economics in the past years. In terms of methodologies, two approaches have been followed extensively, i.e. the standard growth accounting methodology and the regression-based models. This paper aims at developing an alternative approach to studying the usage and impact of ICTs. For this purpose, a two-step methodology is proposed here. At first, hierarchical cluster analysis is used to provide an objective clustering of countries (Macedonia and EU-28) according to 53 indicator values/scores of the Networked Readiness Index. Furthermore, a system dynamics model is proposed to simulate the evolution of the NRI indicator values for Macedonia. This second step allows for examining the potential of the country to improve its rankings on a global scale and thus, become better at leveraging ICTs for increased competitiveness and well-being. Beyond the rankings, the proposed methodology can serve as a useful guide for those attributes Macedonia should focus on in order to improve its position relative to other countries, i.e. to move from its current to the next higher cluster.

The article shows that the modern development of information and communication technologies, has opened wide opportunities for self-realization of the person and liberalization of social life, and therefore it is often considered as a completely positive phenomenon, with its development contributing to the growth of the human well-being level. These seemingly positive developments are accompanied by a number of threatening trends, where the organized amnesia is at the forefront. It manifests itself in blurring the line between remembering and forgetting due to media pressure. They are oriented toward creating collective ideas related to the processes of production and consumption. Large flows of tightly controlled and insignificant information for the development of society, forces out the socially significant collective memories into "waste" against the backdrop of programmed life. However, it is this that leads to the fact that a person is forced to live in unchanged and commonplace today, which, as shown in the work, significantly complicates individual and collective identification, condemning a person to loneliness even in society.

Abstract:Many scholars have concluded, perhaps prematurely, that information and communication technologies (ICTs) are inherently empowering for Africans. In order to look more closely at the impact of ICTs on relationships and society, this article focuses on everyday life. Specifically, it uses ethnographic methods and the theory of “affordances” to illuminate the use of cell phones among Bulsa of Ghana’s Upper East Region. While cell phones help users connect with distant loved ones, they also plant seeds of alienation between users and those who remain physically present. These changes are evident in new body habits and in social behaviors that would be culturally unacceptable in face-to-face interactions but are largely excused in the interventions of the virtual world.

In the article, the theoretical approaches as to the description of the phenomenon of psychological well-being are analyzed. Besides, the peculiarities of the adaptable intellectual educational systems (AIES) are explored. Also, the possibility of the positive influences of the usage of adaptable intellectual educational systems on the psychological well-being of the individual who strives for education is displayed. In addition, the questions on the further examination with the usage of the information and communication technologies on such topics as mental health and physiological health of a human being as the components of the productive life are raised as well.

The impact and benefit that information and communication technologies (ICT) have in the educational field require new teaching skills. This fact has been increased by the recent crisis caused by COVID-19. This study tries to investigate the level of digital teaching competence (DTC) of Higher Education teachers of Health Sciences, and its relationship with several variables. For this, it has the participation of 300 teachers from the 9 universities of Andalusia (Spain). The research is structured through a descriptive (RQ1) and inferential (RQ2) design. The answers given to the DigCompEdu Check-In questionnaire adapted to the Spanish context are analyzed. The results, which show high levels of reliability of the questionnaire (Cronbach and McDonald) and validity (CFA), indicate that the level of competence is basic-intermediate. In addition, the area in which teachers excel is digital resources. For this reason, it is proposed to structure personalized training plans and continue expanding the characteristics of this study at an international level.

AbstractSeveral decades of research have addressed the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology. However, segmented research streams with myriad terminologies run the risk of construct proliferation and lack an integrated theoretical justification of the contributions of ICT concepts. Therefore, by identifying important trends and reflecting on key constructs, findings, and theories, our review seeks to determine whether a compelling case can be made for the uniqueness of ICT-related concepts in studying employee and performance in I-O psychology. Two major themes emerge from our review of the ICT literature: (a) a technology behavior perspective and (b) a technology experience perspective. The technology behavior perspective with three subcategories (the “where” of work design, the “when” of work extension, and the “what” of work inattention) explores how individual technology use can be informative for predicting employee well-being and performance. The technology experience perspective theme with two subcategories (the “how” of ICT appraisals and “why” of motives) emphasizes unique psychological (as opposed to behavioral) experiences arising from the technological work context. Based on this review, we outline key challenges of current ICT research perspectives and opportunities for further enhancing our understanding of technological implications for individual workers and organizations.
