The purpose of this study is to find out whether there are: (1) the influence of the scientific approach on students’ critical thinking skills; (2) the influence of learning independence on students’ mathematical critical thinking ability; (3) the interaction between the scientific approach and the learning independence of students’ critical thinking skills. This research is a quasy experimental design research with 2x3 factorial design. Sampling technique in this research use probability sampling with cluster random sampling. The research instrument used is questionnaire self-reliance learning and test of critical thinking ability mathematically. Data from the results of tests of mathematical critical thinking ability were analyzed using anava test of two unequal cell paths and further tests using a double comparison test with the Scheffe method. The results showed that: (1) there was an influence of the scientific approach on students’ critical thinking skills; (2) there is influence of learning independence to students’ critical thinking ability mathematically; (3) there is no interaction between the scientific approach and the learning independence of mathematical critical thinking skills.

This research aimed to develop a valid interactive e-book using Learning Content Development System (LCDS) with scientific approach on energy resources to enhance student’s critical thinking ability, to know readability and the ease of operating the developed e-book. The method used is research and development. The implementation of procedures adopted from Sugiyono’s design which consisted of 7 adjusted steps that were potency and problem assessment, data collecting, developing preliminary form of product, expert validation, design revision, one-on-one test, and product revision. Developed e-book contains pictures, animations, simulations, learning video, essay question, and interactive test. The e-book has been validated in content and design with results “very appropriate” in quality and “proper to use” as the recommendation for students in learning energy resource topic with scientific approach to foster critical thinking ability. One-on-one test’s results show that e-book is very easy to operate with score 3,68 and has very good readability with score 3,60.

Emphasis on learning in the 2013 Curriculum puts forward the development of knowledge, attitudes and skills of students. The Scientific Approach is believed to be a gold platform to produce quality human resources because the learning process is scientific. As we know in Elementary School learning emphasizes on memorization alone where students must memorize all the material that has been learned.Rote learning is certainly not meaningful for students because students will easily forget what they have learned. The ability that students must possess is one of them is critical thinking.Scientific based inquiry needs to be applied in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in elementary school.Inquiry-based scientific learning models cultivate scientific thinking skills, developing sense of inquiry and students' creative thinking skills.Through writing about inquiry-based scientific inquiry empirically it can be used as an effort to improve students' critical thinking skills.

The purpose of this study was to describe the role of scientific approach on students’ mathematical critical thinking and resiliency. This study wass a pre test-post test experimental control group design and involves 66 seventh grade students as sample. Data collection was conducted by a mathematical critical thinking test, a mathematical resiliency questionnaire, and a perception on scientific approach questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential analysis. The study found that on mathematical critical thinking ability, students getting treatment by scientific approach attained better than students taught by conventional teaching, but both groups were still at low level. On mathematical resiliency, there was no different between students on both teaching approaches, and those groups were at medium level. The other findings, there was no association between mathematical critical thinking ability and mathematical resiliency, and students performed high perception toward scientific approach.

In this research, interactive multimedia on dynamic electricity concepts was developed and tested. The purpose of this research was to analyze the feasibility and the effectiveness of interactive multimedia through a problem-based learning approach to students’ critical thinking ability. The research and development (R & D) had three stages: preliminary study, development, and field testing. The field testing was a quasi-experiment with a pretest and posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of four lecturers as expert validators, two teachers and two groups of 72 students in a senior high school in Batang Regency, Central Java. Data were gathered by using questionnaires, observation, interviews, and written test. The results of the Normalized-gain test were 61.79 for the experiment group and 49.91 for the control group. This shows that there were differences in the increase of students' critical thinking ability between the control group and the experiment group. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of interactive multimedia could improve students' critical thinking ability.
