The article describes an approach to the operational and supervisory control of a gas transmission system for large industrial zones using a model predictive control, as well as analytical and simulation methods. The operational and supervisory control of the gas transportation system covers the time horizon from several hours to several days and involves performing several cyclically repeated actions. The authors propose a time series predictive model of the gas consumption parameter considering temperature weather conditions, which is extended based on accounting for the correlation relationships between the consumption volumes of each consumer. The control methods used today, reacting to the current deviations from the planned regime, a priori do not allow achieving the best results. A significant increase in the stability of control and a reduction in the cost of fuel and energy resources can be achieved by using the control method based on predictive models. In this case, the control object model is used to predict its behavior within the selected time horizon, and optimal control actions are selected on this basis. The process of predicting and selecting control actions is periodically repeated, constantly changing the time horizon boundaries. The described method of changing the flow diagram consists either in changing all the flows at the same time or in a preemptive and smooth transition based on the introduction of a weighted flow diagram for various stationary modes, provided that their mismatch is minimized at neighboring time intervals corresponding to the intervals of constancy of consumption requests.

A Mixed Logic Dynamic (MLD) model and control method based on mode selection are proposed for the Buck convertor. In establishing the hybrid system model, the factors such as the inductor current are neglected, and the Model Predictive Control (MPC) is used to switch the most favorable working state of the control target. Since the modeling process ignores the inductance and current, it is necessary to convert the optimization prediction control resulting to avoid the problem that the model is inconsistent with the control object. The method proposed in this paper uses fewer auxiliary logic variables and mixed logic variables in the modeling process, simplifying the model and improving the solution speed. This method can not only make the Buck converter work in the Continuous Current Mode (CCM) but also work in the Discontinuous Current Mode (DCM), extending the adjustment range of the Buck converter. The simulation results show that the proposed method has a better control performance than the traditional MLD model.

A coagulation process for water purification plants mainly uses feedforward control based on raw water quality and empirical data and requires operator's help. We developed a new floc sensor for measuring floc size in a flush mixer to be used for floc control. A control system using model predictive control was developed on the floc size data. A series of experiments was performed to confirm controllability of settled water quality by controlling flush mixer floc size. An automatic control with feedback from the coagulation process was evaluated as practical and reliable. Finally this new control method was applied for actual plant and evaluated as practical.

AbstractIn the last years, Control Moment Gyros (CMGs) are widely used for high-speed attitude control, since they are able to generate larger torque compared to “classical” actuation systems, such as Reaction Wheels . This paper describes the attitude control problem of a spacecraft, using a Model Predictive Control method. The features of the considered linear MPC are: (i) a virtual reference, to guarantee input constraints satisfaction, and (ii) an integrator state as a servo compensator, to reduce the steady-state error. Moreover, the real-time implementability is investigated using an experimental testbed with four CMGs in pyramidal configuration, where the capability of attitude control and the optimization solver for embedded systems are focused on. The effectiveness and the performance of the control system are shown in both simulations and experiments.
