Although the state of Santa Catarina has little variation in latitude, it presents significant spatial variations in its climate. Wind is considered an important meteorological variable, but it is not intensively studied and there is a shortage of information on this subject in the region of Santa Catarina. Thus, the objective of this article was to analyze the behavior of the winds in five regions of the state, with different aspects. For that, daily data from National Institute of Meteorology of direction and speed of the winds were used from 1974 to 2016. The conventional meteorological stations used were: Chapecó, Campos Novos, Lages, Indaial and Florianópolis. Regarding wind speed, Florianópolis and Campos Novos registered the highest speeds during the whole year. In the analysis of wind direction, the prevalence of South Atlantic subtropical anticyclone was observed in most of the year in Forianópolis (circulation going north), Lages and Campos Novos (turning northeast) and Chapecó (predominant wind direction in the este). For Indaial, the prevalence was the effect of the valley-mountain breeze.

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to characterize the processes of ethical and professional nursing transacted at the Regional Nursing Council of Santa Catarina (Coren/SC), considering their factual elements (events/offenses, causes and outcomes). METHOD: This descriptive, exploratory and documentary research with a quantitative approach was developed at Coren/SC. Data was collected from 128 professional ethical processes in nursing, between 1999 and 2007, analyzed descriptively with regard to the origin of the complaints and ethical processes, the denouncers, the accused, the subject of the complaint and the outcome of the process. RESULTS: Considering the topics, out of the eight categories described, iatrogenesis was highlighted, as well as illegal professional practice, conflicting inter-professional relationships and professional responsibility of the nurse. CONCLUSION: The results show the need for discussion and intervention in concrete practical and arouse reflections about the process of professional training and continuous education in the institutional spaces of health, in order to reduce ethical occurrences in professional practice.

ABSTRACT The wind is of great importance to many human activities, especially for agricultural activities. The aim of this study was to characterize the speed and direction of the prevailing wind to Mossoró/RN, from January 2000 to December 2012. The datas from the average wind speed at 10 m and 2 m in height and the prevailing wind direction for the period of 24 hours. Data were collected by an Automatic Weather Station, located in UFERSA (Federal Rural University of the Semi - Arid), in Mossoró/RN. The values of average wind speed tend to increase in the second half of the year, with a fall in values in the first half. The average wind speed for the study period were 3.32 m s-1 to 10 m and 2.30 m s-1 to 2 m high, since the instantaneous speeds of the study period were 13.04 m s-1 to 10 m and 9.40 m s-1 to 2 m in height. The predominant wind direction was in most months between southeast (SE) and east (E).   Keywords: Climate, Anemometer, Automatic Station.

This study provides new distributional and morphological information for two recently described species of catsharks (Carcharhiniformes, Scyliorhinidae) from Brazil. Scyliorhinus cabofriensis Soares, Gomes & Carvalho, 2016, originally described from off Cabo Frio, state of Rio de Janeiro (536 m depth) is recorded in deeper waters (647 m) off northern Rio de Janeiro, and Scyliorhinus ugoi Soares, Gadig & Gomes, 2015, previously known from the Caribbean Sea to Rio de Janeiro (depth unknown), is reported off the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, at 825 m. Morphometric data are provided for all the specimens examined.

An “explosive extratropical cyclone” is an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs when there is a very rapid drop in central atmospheric pressure. This phenomenon, with its characteristic of rapidly lowering the pressure in its interior, generates very intense winds and for this reason it is called explosive cyclone, bomb cyclone. With gusts recorded of 116 km/h, atmospheric phenomenon – “cyclone bomb” (CB) hit southern Brazil on June 30, the beginning of winter 2020, causing destruction in its influence over. One of the cities most affected was Chapecó, west of the state of Santa Catarina. The satellite images show that the CB generated a low pressure (976 mbar) inside it, generating two atmospheric currents that moved at high speed. In a northwest-southeast direction, Bolivia and Paraguay, crossing the states of Parana and Santa Catarina, and this draft that hit the south of Brazil, which caused the destruction of the affected states.  Another moving to Argentina, southwest-northeast direction, due to high area of high pressure (1022 mbar). Both enhanced the phenomenon.
