The American higher education system consists of over 4,700 institutions educating over twenty-one million students. The most striking feature of this system is its diversity. There is no “typical college.” Much of the story about the future of America’s four-year higher education institutions is found in their differences, not their similarities. Schools are public and private, large and small, elite and open enrollment, tuition dependent and well endowed, liberal arts oriented and vocational. The challenges facing America’s colleges and universities will affect the diverse parts of this system in very different ways. Generalizing about this system can be very dangerous.

Where does the campus fit into the biosphere? What role should universities play in the struggle to save the environment? Although critics, such as Allan Bloom, have recently accused liberal arts institutions of failing to educate college youth properly, few have addressed the question of how colleges and universities might make students more aware and responsible about their place in the natural world. In this article David Orr offers a rationale for incorporating environmental concerns into the curricula of higher education and suggests examples of curricular innovations, including programs for restructuring the ways colleges procure food, deal with waste, and use energy. Orr shows us how a focus on the ecosystem of the college campus can broaden students' visions of the natural world in which they live.

Abstract The study aims to adapt and validate a Portuguese from Brazilian version for the Physical Educators' Attitudes Toward Teaching Individuals with Disabilities-III (PEATID-III) and assess its psychometric properties. Seventy six teachers from Physical Education undergraduate courses from six Higher Education institutions from Alagoas State, Brazil, were used. The psychometric properties were analyzed based on the r product moment Pearson´s (test-retest), the Cronbach's Alpha coefficients and the exploratory factor analysis values (with Varimax rotation). The results revealed an overall structure with two factors that explain 55.28% of the total variance. It was concluded that the version of validation can be used in university teachers of physical education courses in Brazil. Keywords: Attitudes. Physical Education. Higher Education. Inclusion.

This paper studies the teaching abilities of physical education (P.E.) teachers in colleges and universities. First, an evaluation indicator system for the teaching abilities of P.E. teachers in colleges and universities was constructed using the Delphi method, and then the weights of indicators at each level were determined using the expert survey method, so that a standard scale was formed for the teaching ability evaluation system. After that, empirical analysis was performed on the evaluation indicator system. The research results show that the teaching ability evaluation indicator system for P.E. teachers in colleges and universities proposed in this paper can be used to give a quantitative analysis on teachers’ teaching abilities and clearly reflect their deficiencies in teaching. This will allow teachers to understand what to improve in their teaching so that their teaching abilities will be enhanced. This research provides theoretical and practical references for the evaluation of P.E. teachers’ teaching abilities in higher education institutions in China, and thus, it is of great theoretical and practical significance to promoting the reform of P.E. teaching in higher education and the professional development of teachers.

Challenges to academic integrity in management education appear to be on the rise in U.S. institutions of higher education. In an effort to reduce cheating and plagiarism in business education, universities have turned to a variety of technological approaches. However, technology cannot be considered a panacea for ensuring academic integrity and is probably best viewed as a “stop gap” measure that can eventually be compromised. The authors begin this chapter by describing how declining ethics has been evidenced recently in business. Then, they present a review of the literature describing the extent and causes of academic dishonesty and discuss what some educational institutions are doing to address academic integrity, including calls for an increase in ethics education. Finally, they review technological approaches used by many colleges and universities to prevent cheating and plagiarism, examining the features, strengths, weaknesses, and current status of each technology.
