Preservation of Artsakh's architectural heritage and the issues of use have acquired a special significance today. The historical stages of the construction of the city of Hadrut in Artsakh, and, as a result of their analysis, their impact on the further sustainable development of the city have been revealed. There are 5 main stages: formation, late Middle Ages, from the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, Soviet and independence periods. Suggestions are given on the territorial development of the city.

The City of Montreal initiated a First Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development in 2005 followed by a Community and Corporate Sustainable Development Plan in 2010–2015. This study proposes a sustainable urban development indicator (SUDI) for each Montreal Urban Community (MUC) to evaluate the achievements of sustainable development plans. This study identifies thirty-two variables as the attributes of sustainable urban development. The multivariate technique and Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis are applied to determine the spatial pattern of SUDI for each MUC. The spatial pattern of SUDI identifies that Ville Marie, Verdun, Sud-Ouest, Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Plateau Mont-Royal have strong sustainable development. The findings of this study help the City of Montreal to understand the improvement of the sustainable development plans for Montreal city and to distribute the municipal budget for the community benefits accordingly.

Sustainable development is a long-term solution for urban development and a guideline for urban development. Only by better coordination around the population, resources, and environment can the city achieve sustained and steady development. In order to evaluate the efficiency of sustainable urban development under environmental constraints, this paper takes 13 prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province as an example. To address the infeasibility problem in the Malmquist-Luenberger (M-L) index, a modified M-L index analysis method based on the new directional distance function (DDF) is adopted. Combined with the consideration of desirable and undesirable outputs, a linear programming model for sustainable urban development evaluation is constructed to provide a scientific decision-making basis for sustainable development of the city. The results show that the growth of sustainable urban development efficiency is not only related to desirable outputs but also affected by undesirable outputs. Technical change is the main driver of most sustainable urban development efficiency growth. However, efficiency changes also affect the sustainable development potential of cities to a certain extent. Through the modified M-L index analysis, we analyze the characteristics of different regions of Jiangsu Province, the changes in efficiency and the impact of technological innovation on sustainable urban development, and give policy recommendations to promote sustainable urban development.

Sustainable development is an issue that has attracted a considerable amount of academic interest since the publication of the Brundtland Report. With Agenda 21, it is an issue which has also found its way into the policy and action programmes of the European Commission. For Europe and its member states, the issue has become one of sustainable urban development and this paper reports on the interim findings of a concerted action programme undertaken to foreground the urban question, develop a framework for the analysis of sustainable development and compile a directory of methods to assess the sustainability of urban development. It classifies the assessment methods in question and goes on to map their applications across the sustainable development issues represented in the framework for analysis. Having done this, the paper goes on to set out how the said methods are being used to build the environmental capacity that is needed for the city of tomorrow to carry its cultural heritage and develop forms of human settlement which are sustainable.


A new vision of the global needs of mankind is embodied in the concept of sustainable development, which means meeting the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability to meet their needs by future generations. Today, more than half of the world population lives in cities, the development of which is influenced by many interdependent factors, so there is a need for a clear and holistic approach to sustainable urban development. The aim of this paper is to study urban infrastructure in the aspect of its greening as an important component of the sustainable development system of the city. The paper analyzes the academic literature on the problem of greening urban infrastructure as the basis for sustainable development of the city. The determination of the main elements of green infrastructure and technologies in the field of green infrastructure in foreign countries has been carried out. Particularly significant action strategies for cities have been identified as part of a sustainable development policy.

This article aims to investigate and compare indicators of sustainable urban development. The modern systems of indicators of sustainable development are considered. Based on the analysis of the approaches, the main indicators of the eff ective and sustainable development of cities have been identifi ed. The author describes two main ratings of Russian regions. According to the results of the study, indicators of sustainable development of the architectural and planning structure of the city are proposed.

With the rapid advancement of urbanization, the sustainable development of the city has received more and more attention. The measurement of the sustainable development of a city can provide an important reference for the development of the city. Therefore, this paper firstly constructs an index system for five dimensions: society, the economy, the environment, resources, and technology. Then, a sustainable development measurement model is established based on dissipative structure theory, grey entropy and coupling theory, and the evolution trend and coordinated development of the city are measured. Finally, Chengdu, an important central city in the western region of China, is selected for sustainable development measurement research, from which it was found that the city became more sustainable and more orderly, the development level was constantly improving, and the coordination was continuously improving, which was consistent with the actual situation and indicated that the proposed measurement model could effectively measure and evaluate sustainable urban development.

This paper aims to explain the importance of creating sustainable urban tourism. The method used is library research. Tourism is a useful activity that can preserve cultural and historical heritage and can prosper society. Throughout history, the city has become the focus of tourism activities, providing accommodation, entertainment and other facilities for tourists. Achieving sustainable urban development requires the preservation of historical sites and cultural structures. By preserving a cultural heritage, and reviving it in a new way, is one form of realization of effective sustainable development.

The city of Mychesk (Mychsk) is mentioned by the Hypatian Chronicle in the episode of the chase of Halich Prince Volodymyr Volodarovych for Prince Iziaslav Mstyslavych during his raid in 1151 to Kyiv occupied at that time by Prince Yurii Dolhorukyi. In the middle of the 19th century E. Rulikovskyi and L. Pokhilevych, having based on local legends, localized Mychesk on the territory of Mykgorod — a suburb of Radomyshl (today the part of city). The remains of the fortifications (ramparts and ditches), located on the peninsula at the influx of the Myka river into the Teteriv, were considered as the rests of Mychesk. For the first time, they were examined and described by V. Antonovych in the late 19th cent. Most of the researchers such as M. Hrushevskyi, A. Kuza, V. Misiats agreed with this version of Mychesk localization. In 1973 and 1985 M. Kuchera has made the survey on the territory of that peninsula and dug the prospect holes on the territory of Mykgorod fortifications. As a result, no artifacts and cultural layers dated to Old Rus period were found on the site or adjoining territory. The researcher considered this site to be the remains of a fortified churchyard in the Late Middle Ages. In 2009 and 2011 the additional researches of Mykgorod were made by the authors of the paper. The artifacts of Old Rus period have not been discovered. Instead of that fact, in 2011, numerous fragments of pottery dated to the middle — the second half of the 11th century and at the 12th—13th century were found in the central historical part of the modern city. Artifacts were located on the high terrace of the left bank of Myka river, in the garden of school # 3 and on the neighboring backyards. Huge cultural layer was obsereved in the prospect hole, the lower horizons of this layer are well preserved and provide the findings of ceramics dated to the middle — the second half of the 11th century. In the autumn of 2019, the authors carried out the rescue exploration on the school territory caused by construction of the school water and sewer system. In the communication trench the cultural layers, its capacity and current state of preservation were traced. The remains of three objects destroyed by modern machines were also recognized, they are dated to the Old Rus period. The ceramics dated to the 10th—18th centuries was collected. It should be noticed that in 2011 and in 2019 the fragments of plinth (a Greek brick) were found on the surface and during exploration. For the first view it can be dated to the late 11th — the first third of the 12th cent. These findings ought to show the existence of the stone church in Mychesk at the Middle Ages. Thus, the question of localization of the annalistic Mychesk consider to be fundamentally resolved. To form the complete scientific understanding of this Old Rus city we need further special historical and archeological research.

The global concepts of the post-industrial period are considered in the example of the concept of the city of sustainable development. The main examples of existing global concepts of a sustainable city are presented, as well as the established way of life is considered in the analysis of concepts of a sustainable city in four areas: ecology, economy, politics, and culture. The development of modern concepts of sustainable urban development  X with their further classification is presented. A combination of concepts based on functional features, as well as social trends, is presented. To analyze the meanings inherent in an architectural work, the method of conducting of content analysis of the descriptive part of architectural concepts is used. The article analyzes the global concepts of" Sustainable Urban Development " and creates architectural concepts based on them as part of the process of learning of new challenges and opportunities that have appeared in modern architecture. The following global concepts are considered: a) the City of Sustainable Development; b) Urban agriculture; c) Arcology; d) SmartCity; e) Eco-settlements and Eco-Cities; f) Green standards in architecture; g) Technoparks. It is noted that in the course of its development, a number of concepts intersected or were completely absorbed by higher-order concepts. It is revealed that the concept of "the city of sustainable development" in terms of a set of indicators belongs to the category of "Architectural utopias", according to many evaluation criteria it coincided with the concepts of "ideal cities". For the most part, the similarity consisted in the presence in most concepts of "the city of sustainable development" of a description of attractive expectations of the "Results" of applying the concept and extremely vague descriptions of possible "Risks" and "Resource costs" that arise during its implementation.
