Culture influences what we attend to, encode, remember and think about. Easterners are said to attend more to the relationship between focal objects and their context while Westerners disentangle focal objects from their context. Simply put, Easterners process information holistically and Westerners analytically. Psychosocial factors, like Fear of Isolation, have been proposed as a possible mechanism for cultural differences in terms of information processing. While East vs. West cultural differences are well researched, the monolithic notion that all Westerners process information analytically was questioned in the research presented below. In this paper, we present a study conducted with two Western cultures (Italian and us American) and one Eastern (Chinese) where we induced the chronic psychosocial factor: Fear of Isolation (foi), and measured its influence on information processing. We found that Italian participants processed information more holistically than us Americans, and that Italians were more similar to Chinese than us Americans.

Purpose of the study: This study aims to identify the nature and type of the relationship between watching televised animated cartoons and the information processing speed and Level for sample children in the age group [5-6] Years. The sample consisted of (225) boys and girls watching animation films at an average time of (6.8) and a standard deviation (1.9) in the age group of (5-6) years. The study adopted the descriptive approach and applied the tools to the study samples. The results were analyzed and compared. The study used a data collection form and a scale for measuring information processing speed and level. Methodology: In light of the study hypotheses, the descriptive approach was used. The tools were applied to the study samples and their results were analyzed and compared. Main Findings:The results of study gave rise to findings; the most important of which are that there are statistically significant differences between children with high watching and low watching in terms of the speed and the information processing level for those with high watching ... and there is a statistically significant effect of some of the factors of watching (televised animation – laptop animation - animated cartoons in both types) watching hours on weekends (less than four hours - more than four hours) on the speed and information processing level of the child. Applications of this study: This study can be applied to children in general and can benefit teachers and parents. Novelty/Originality of this study: The animated cartoons play a prominent role in developing the speed and information processing level, in light of the lack of excessive watching hours, particularly on public holidays, and the tendency to practice real activities in the environment. Also, there is a clear impact of animation films in light of watching hours on the speed and information processing level for children, as they provide them with a world full of scenes, beautiful nature, broad imagination and beloved symbols that make them guided by their content and seek to imitate them and process them in their understanding of reality, perception, and processing of the information they receive.

Seventeen subjects matched for driving experience were divided into four groups according to their accident and traffic violation records. They were tested for their ability to process information. Subjects who had a high accident record processed information at a significantly (p < .01) lower rate than nonaccident subjects. Subjects who had many violations, but no accidents, were the best information processors. There was a significant (p <.01) interaction between accident and violation record. These results and their implications are discussed.

The present research analyzes the relationship between attachment styles at an adult age and field dependence in order to identify possible individual differences in information processing. The “Experience in Close Relationships” test of Brennan et al. was administered to a sample of 380 individuals (160 males, 220 females), while a subsample of 122 subjects was given the Embedded Figure Test to measure field dependence. Confirming the starting hypothesis, the results have shown that individuals with different attachment styles have a different way of perceiving the figure against the background. Ambivalent and avoidant individuals lie at the two extremes of the same dimension while secure individuals occupy the central part. Significant differences also emerged between males and females.

In Strelau’s theory of temperament (RTT), there are four types of temperament, differentiated according to low vs. high stimulation processing capacity and to the level of their internal harmonization. The type of temperament is considered harmonized when the constellation of all temperamental traits is internally matched to the need for stimulation, which is related to effectiveness of stimulation processing. In nonharmonized temperamental structure, an internal mismatch is observed which is linked to ineffectiveness of stimulation processing. The three studies presented here investigated the relationship between temperamental structures and the strategies of categorization. Results revealed that subjects with harmonized structures efficiently control the level of stimulation stemming from the cognitive activity, independent of the affective value of situation. The pattern of results attained for subjects with nonharmonized structures was more ambiguous: They were as good as subjects with harmonized structures at adjusting the way of information processing to their stimulation processing capacities, but they also proved to be more responsive to the affective character of stimulation (positive or negative mood).
