Oriental design is based on Oriental cultural tradition and philosophy. After merging with the essence of modern design, it has gained new vitality and constantly meets the spiritual and material needs of modern people. This paper mainly summarizes the design strategies from three aspects: element minimalism, light and shadow inheritance and meditation practice. Combined with the team practice case analysis, this paper hopes to provide help for other designers’ localization design thinking. It is hoped that designers can establish cultural confidence based on their understanding of Oriental culture and philosophy, and naturally integrate Oriental Spirit into future design.

This research analyses the design process in the creation of Monsanto GeoHotel Escola (MGHE). The problem that underlies the study is the definition of the concept; identification of the actors who participated in the construction; the role of the academy, local government, and other partners; and the design strategy adopted. Methodologically, the authors triangulated documentary data with direct observation and interviewing the various team members as well as the heads of the partner institutions. They conclude that design thinking has proven to be an effective process to meet new needs. MGHE has adopted this method or process through multidisciplinary teams and focused on the needs of consumers: tourists, students of the Hospitality course. The active participation of consumers, from the partners involved in the process, from the inspiration phase to the ideation phase, including the implementation phase, ensured/ensures the necessary dynamics for the competitiveness of hotel equipment.

The purpose of this paper is to propose a research by design strategy, focusing on the generation of innovative climate adaptation solutions by utilizing the Design Thinking Process. The proposed strategy has been developed and tested in a research and design studio, which took place in 2020 at a Master of Architecture degree program in the Netherlands. The studios focused on the sparsely populated, high flood risk region of the Lake District, UK. The Lake District faces urgent climate change challenges that demand effective solutions. On the other hand, the area is a UNESCO heritage site, characterized by massive tourism and tending towards museumification (sic). Three indicative design research projects were selected to illustrate the proposed research by design strategy. The results reveal that this strategy facilitates the iterative research by design process and hence offers a systematic approach to convert the threats of climate change into opportunities by unraveling the potentials of the study area. The findings lay the groundwork for more systematic studies on research by design as an effective strategy for climate change adaptation design. Beyond the local case, the results contribute to the critical theories on climate adaptation design and research by design methodologies.

Based on Bauhaus’s 100th anniversary, we look back and forth on Bauhaus’s journey, which is of great significance to our field of design. By reliving the spirit of Bauhaus and thinking about the contemporary enlightenment given by Bauhaus, this paper hopes to comb through the current urban renewal in Shanghai to build a community brand to enhance identity awareness, enhance the cultural consciousness of the design thinking design strategy, for the city update under the community fine design to provide a positive reference guidance guide.
