This paper aims to explore the role of applying information technology governance using the COBIT 5 framework in improving the security of accounting information systems. The paper also aims to assess the level of governance of information technology in the Trade Bank of Iraq TBI through COBIT 5 processes, including 4 dimensions of planning and organization, acquisition and implementation, support and delivery, and monitoring. The study uses a qualitative approach through a case study conducted at the Iraqi Bank of Commerce. The results show that applying the COBIT 5 governance mechanisms of information technology reduces data processing risks and improves automated accounting information systems' security. The results also show that the Trade Bank of Iraq can implement the COBIT 5 Framework. Also, the accounting system used in the Bank has all the features of information technology governance that, on the one hand, ensure confidentiality of customer information and, on the other hand, prevent the system from penetrating. The results of the current study provide a better understanding of stakeholders on the nature of IT governance in the light of the COBIT 5 framework and its role in enhancing accounting information security.

ABSTRACT: This paper reviews Information Systems (IS) literature that is relevant to Information Technology Governance (ITG) and examines how it informs Accounting Information Systems (AIS). We present a taxonomy of research encompassing the focus areas identified by the IT Governance Institute (ITGI), namely Strategic Alignment (SA), Risk Management (RK), Resource Management (RM), Value Delivery (VD) and Performance Measurement (PM). Based upon 496 papers in ten IS/AIS and two Management Accounting journals over the period 1998–2008, we discuss research perspectives and identify avenues for future research. Results revealed a lack of integration between focus areas, with little about ITG as a whole.

Recently, there have been debates on whether it will be services to the accounting information systems (AIS) educators and the society if AIS educators form a new organization independent of American Accounting Association. As like any new discipline, AIS emerged from many existing disciplines, including accounting, computer science and information systems. Yet, different from their counterpart in industry, the leadership in accounting academics across the nation has been slow in embracing the new reality based on information technology and has the difficult time to make a smooth transition to restructure their old curriculum to the fast changing market places. Yet, the strong market demands for information technology graduates and declining enrollments in the traditional accounting programs across the nation provide an incentive for accounting educators in many institutions to rethink their long term strategy in surviving this tumultuous time and preparing for the challenging future ahead (Albrecht and Sack, 2000). Against this backdrop of radical changes, the new conferences for AIS educators held consecutively for two years (AIS Educator Conference, 1999, 2000) were devoted to the professional growth of AIS educators. And the conferences drew serious attention from AIS faculty, particularly, those who are interested in teaching practical and hands-on application-driven information technology (IT) to their students. In this paper, I examine various issues related to this idea of creating a new organization for AIS educators independent from AAA. First, I highlight the paradigm shift in accounting industry for the last three decades from the traditional accounting services to accounting and information systems (AIS) services. Then, I delve into exploring who AIS educators are. Once the AIS educators model is established, I examine the missions and purposes of two independent organizations: one is the existing AAA, and the other is one yet to be formed, a new organization for AIS educators. Once the differences and similarities between organizations missions and purposes are established, I examine the implications of creating the new AIS educators organization, using the findings from Christensens study (1997), and similar studies on the impact of innovative technology on organizational changes.

This study aimed to assess the impact of information technology risks on security of information systems by following an analytical method based on the structural equation modeling (SEM). The study population was seven telecommunication companies in Yemen. A questionnaire was distributed to 356 participants, but only 218 forms were valid for analysis. The data was analyzed by the partial least squares (PLS). The study findings revealed that information technology risks had a negative impact on the security of information systems. The study recommended that the security of information systems should be strengthened so as to maintain the confidentiality of information, its availability and safety from risks, and to cope with speedy developments in information and communication technology.

ABSTRACT The verification of Information Technology (IT) controls is a core responsibility of IT auditors. This case places the student in the role of an IT auditor assigned to test the operating effectiveness of a specific IT general control: user access management. In addition to learning about IT controls, the case introduces several Excel functions such as VLOOKUP, MATCH, INDEX, and various text functions. The student documents the results of the IT controls tests by completing a testing matrix and writing a memo. General controls, user access management, and Excel applications are all topics taught in Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and Audit courses. As such, instructors can use this case at the undergraduate or graduate level in an IT Audit, Accounting Information Systems, or Audit class.

Over time, this type of cooperative business slowly begins to lose its existencedue to increasingly fierce business competition. This is because the role ofcooperatives, which is identical to the provision of basic foodstuffs for theneeds of the community, has now been taken over by the existence ofsupermarkets both in cities and in the regions. This is due to the influence ofthe industrial technology revolution 4.0 which requires business people tocontinue to be able to improve services and offer technology-basedconvenience so that it has an impact on customer satisfaction. This literaturereview aims to describe the role of the use of information technology systemsfor accounting for primary cash receipts and disbursements in cooperatives.

Kata kunci: Teknologi Maklumat, sistem maklumat, sistem perakaunan pengurusan, sistem maklumat perakaunan, industri kecil dan sederhana This paper reports the results of a study which offers an explanation for the relationship between Information Technology (IT) sophistication and performance of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), by incorporating into the model of the capability of management accounting systems to generate management accounting information (MAS capacity). To assess the relationship, data were collected from 310 (25% response rate) SMEs by way of questionnaire surveys. The results indicate that IT sophistication is a determinant of MAS capacity, which, in turn, is a determinant of firm performance. In other words, MAS capacity plays a mediating role in the relationship between IT sophistication and firm performance. An interpretation of the results is that those firms that employed sophisticated IT can generate sufficient management accounting information and thereby improve performance. Key words: Information Technology, information systems, management accounting system, accounting information systems, small and medium enterprises
