The purpose of this article is to assess the realisation of goals of management control in public sector entities in Poland. To make the assessment, the authors formulated questions intended to confirm the knowledge of management control goals in practice. At the same time the questions interpreted the scope of realisation of individual goals of management control. The research method used was a questionnaire survey conducted in cities, towns and counties in Poland. The addresses were obtained from the Association of Polish Cities and the Association of Polish Counties. In total, 572 questionnaires were sent out of which 289 completed forms were sent back, which constitutes a 50-percent return. The respondents were allowed to fill the questionnaire on paper or online. The question-naires were distributed with the help of the Main Board of the Accountants Association in Poland. It appears from the gathered data that the concept of management control is accepted in the public sector and the goals are being realised. However, it was proposed to broaden the interpretation of risk management methods by means of a detailed instruction prepared by the Ministry of Finance.

The lack of information related to the best practices in responsible tourism is one of the causes to tourist behavior problems. This study aims to determine the behavior of tourists in hiking, the adoption of responsible tourism practices, and to compile a responsible tourism practices guidebook. The research method used is survey research by spreading the questionnaire. Based on Likert analysis, at the pre-ascending stage, the classification of attitudes indicated by the respondents for cost and transportation is quite agreeable, while for equipment, guide, and simaksi is agreed. The ascent stage, the indicator when going up the mountain is quite agree, camping is not agree, the cook is agree, and when down the mountain is strongly agree. The post-ascent stage shows quite agreeable attitude. The public test of the guidebook, for the aspect of size and language of submission shows an agreeable attitude, while for the design, thickness, and content of the book shows an agreeable attitude. The conclusion is that (1) Still found the behavior of tourists in mountain climbing that is not environmentally friendly, (2) The responsible tourism practices of mountaineering that includes pre-ascending, ascent, and post-ascent, not well implemented by tourists, and (3) The responsible tourism practices guidebook still lack both technical and substance. The Information and Communication Technology Master Plan—ICTMP—is an important tool for the achievement of the strategic business objectives of public and private organizations. In the public sector, these objectives are closely related to the provision of benefits to society. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) actions are present in all organizational processes and involves size-able budgets. The risks inherent in the planning of ICT actions need to be considered for ICT to add value to the business and to maximize the return on investment to the population. In this context, this work intends to examine the use of risk management processes in the development of ICTMPs in the Brazilian public sector.

This study explores the factors that affect organisational readiness for Knowledge Management (KM). This chapter assesses the organisational readiness for KM at public sector organisations in Bahrain; furthermore, it utilises these findings to develop a guideline to enable the successful adoption and implementation of KM. A questionnaire survey was conducted at the public sector organisations in Bahrain. The research findings indicate that culture (collaboration, trust, and learning), structure (centralisation, formalization, and rewards systems), and IT infrastructure (IT support) all provide a sound basis for organisations to assess their readiness for KM. The results show that the public sector organisations in Bahrain vary in terms of readiness levels against the different variables. The findings are discussed and relevant recommendations are made with regards to KM adoption at the public sector organisations in Bahrain. The findings imply a need for intensified organisational and managerial commitment in order to promote collaboration, trust, learning, decentralisation, less formalisation, reward systems, and enhanced IT support at the public sector organisations in Bahrain. Implementation of these required changes in the public sector’s culture and structure will help in preparing the public sector and their awareness and readiness to implement KM. This study is among the first empirical works assessing organisational readiness for adopting KM. Moreover, this chapter has extended knowledge in KM, especially concerning the need for the consideration of organisational readiness before embracing KM. The most significant contribution of this chapter is that it provides an instrument for assessing organisational readiness. It serves as a guideline for leaders and helps them to ensure that essential preliminary factors and variables are promoted and covered when they start KM implementation within their organisations.

Purpose This study aims to examine the role of organisational dynamic capabilities (strategic flexibility and employee empowerment) in mediating the relationship between management control systems (MCSs), in particular the interactive and diagnostic approaches to using controls, with organisational change and performance. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected based on a mail survey of public sector organisations in Australia and analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings The findings indicate that strategic flexibility and employee empowerment mediate the association between the interactive approach to MCSs with organisational performance, and strategic flexibility mediates the relationship between the interactive approach to MCSs with organisational change. Practical implications The study’s findings inform public sector practitioners as to how to enact change within and enhance the performance of public sector organisations. Specifically, managers are advised to focus on the use of interactive controls and the development of two dynamic organisational capabilities, strategic flexibility and employee empowerment. Originality/value The study provides an initial empirical insight into the relation between controls and dynamic capabilities and their role in enacting change and performance within the public sector. The findings suggest that the achievement of new public management ideals is reliant upon the organisational environment, with change and performance facilitated by the interactive use of controls and strategic flexibility and employee empowerment.

<p>This paper presents a study that used a quantitative research methodology, approach. The main research method at which it was appealed was based on a questionnaire survey, but there were interviews, observations and study of companies’ documents. Questionnaires were simultaneously distributed to managers from 101 enterprises inRomania, covering companies throughout the country, in all major areas of activity in order to meet the criterion of representativeness.</p><p>Following an analysis of the responses received, the authors have highlighted conclusions on risk management planning in the Romanian companies.</p>
