Abstract We examined the relationship between analytical sensitivity, precision at the lower limit of the reference interval, and diagnostic performance in hyperthyroidism for one radioimmunoassay and five immunometric assay kits for thyrotropin. The analytical sensitivity of these kits extended from 0.05 to 1.56 milli-int. units/L. Diagnostic efficiencies of the immunometric assays, in discriminating between euthyroidism and hyperthyroidism, ranged between 93% and 98%. There was a highly significant correlation (r = 0.99, P less than 0.001) between analytical sensitivity and diagnostic efficiency. The between-assay coefficients of variations, at the lower limit of the reference interval, ranged from 26% to 87%. There was no correlation (r = 0.36) between precision, at this concentration, and diagnostic efficiency. We conclude that analytical sensitivity and not precision is the major determinant in controlling the diagnostic performance of a thyrotropin assay in hyperthyroidism.

The textbook presents the theory of ordinary differential equations constituting the subject of the discipline "Differential equations". Studied topics: differential equations of first, second, arbitrary order; differential equations; integration of initial and boundary value problems; stability theory of solutions of differential equations and systems. Introduced the basic concepts, proven properties of differential equations and systems. The article presents methods of analysis and solutions. We consider the applications of the obtained results, which are illustrated on a large number of specific tasks. For independent quality control mastering the course material suggested test questions on the theory, exercises and tasks. It is recommended that teachers, postgraduates and students of higher educational institutions, studying differential equations and their applications.

Manufacturing Engineering Processes Knowledge Area has developed an innovative teaching experience in order to give, only in one session, a complete view of a basic subject, Manufacturing Engineering. This experience has been developed on the basis of making a cube constructed in card by groups of students. Starting from this, the different steps of a manufacturing process have been identified, as well as the necessity of establishing a quality control for any of them. Moreover, the different material processing technology types have been distinguished, the concept of process performance has been introduced and the different possibilities for sequential and/or parallel processing have been analyzed. On the basis of this, the students have built the topics program of the subject, justifying its competences distribution. In the same way, the students have defined the related basic concepts. At the end of the course, a questionnaire containing the basic cognitive concepts was answered by them, 100% successfully.

Objective. To assess efficiency of the “MIC-MICRO” kit developed in the Department of New Technologies of the Saint-Petersburg Pasteur Institute, on reference strains and clinical bacterial isolates. Materials and Methods. In order to assess the “MIC-MICRO” kit, several options of its execution were used, including different groups of antibiotics: aztreonam, amikacin, gentamicin, colistin, meropenem, nitrofurantoin, chloramphenicol, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin. In order to determine the range of antibiotic values, the EUCAST-2020 database was used. The quality control of adsorbed antibiotics was carried out using reference strains: Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 and Escherichia coli NCTC 13846 (colistin-resistant). Acceptable and target ranges of MIC values for control strains are evaluated according to “Regular and extended internal quality control for determining MIC and disk diffusion according to EUCAST recommendations” (v10.0). A total of 28 clinical isolates of K. pneumoniae obtained from patients with nosocomial infections in St. Petersburg hospitals in 2018–2019 was used in the study. The coordination of test results was obtained in accordance with GOST R ISO 20776-1-2010. Susceptibility testing results were interpreted in accordance with EUCAST recommendations (v10.0). Results. The MIC values in relation to the reference strains obtained using the “MIC-MICRO” kit were determined in the range of recommended values of the EUCAST-2020 standard. The results obtained in relation to clinical isolates of K. pneumoniae showed that the sensitivity categories determined using the developed kit and the serial microdilution method were the same for all the studied strains. The percentage of colistin-resistant isolates (MIC > 2 mg/ml) in the serial microdilution method and determined using the “MIC-MICRO” kit was 35.7%. The percentage of susceptible strains was also similar for two types of methods (64.3%). Conclusions. Colistin susceptibility testing of K. pneumoniae strains using the “MIC-MICRO” diagnostic kit and the reference serial microdilution method in a tablet, showed comparable results. Diagnostic efficiency, ease to use and simple interpretation of results make it possible to use the developed “MIC-MICRO” kit in clinical laboratory practice.

The aim of the tutorial is to help students to master the basic concepts and methods of the study of calculus. In volume 2 we study analytic geometry in space; differential calculus of functions of several variables; local, conditional, global extrema of functions of several variables; multiple, curvilinear and surface integrals; elements of field theory; numerical, power series, Taylor series and Maclaurin, and Fourier series; applications to the analysis and solution of applied problems. Great attention is paid to comparison of these methods, the proper choice of study design tasks, analyze complex situations that arise in the study of these branches of mathematical analysis. For self-training and quality control knowledge given test questions. For teachers, students and postgraduate students studying mathematical analysis.
