Extremely hard environmental conditions during firefighting operations cause that scientific-research works are still performed aimed at development of new kind of smart protective clothing, equipped with systems supporting communication and delivering complex data about firefighters’ health status, as well as about conditions in their surroundings. Those systems can support firefighter’s work and contribute to improvement of his safety during operation. However, it is crucial that they meet firefighters’ expectations and are adjusted to their working conditions. Therefore, this publication presents the results of a survey research carried out among firefighters focused on defining their needs in relation to smart protective clothing with the hazards warning system.

The future of the country is determined by health status of the younger generation. The child body reacts most quickly to all external factors, both positive and negative. According to the indicators of physical development and the health status of the child population, it is possible to judge the socio-hygienic and economic wellbeing, the state of the environment in the region. Indicators of the physical development of children and adolescents are a combination of morphological and functional properties of the organism, characterizing the process of their growth and maturation, endurance to any changes in environmental conditions, lifestyle. In childhood and adolescence, individual indicators of physical development are constantly changing, reflecting the influence of the totality of environmental factors, the nature of nutrition, lifestyle. Changes in morbidity rates are not linear, but there are periods of some decrease in the prevalence of functional disorders and chronic diseases and periods of their rapid increase. The work revealed patterns of changes in the physical development of children and adolescents aged 7 to 17 years, which have occurred during the 2008–2017 period. We have made a prognosis of the changes in the parameters on the further physical development of children and adolescents over the next 10 years.

The study aimed to evaluate silymarin material (SM) in reducing the damage in the body caused by residual aflatoxin as well as to improve the health status and quality of the produced eggs in laying hens which were fed on a contaminated diet with aflatoxin. The experiment was conducted on 120 layer chickens (ISA Brown” strain) aged 240-day were randomly divided into three equal groups (40 hens). The first group was fed a basal diet free of aflatoxin. The 2nd group fed on contaminated diet with aflatoxin (14.6 ppb) while the 3rd group fed on the same diet (in 2nd group) with 0.5% of silymarin/kg feed. Ten hens from each group were slaughtered at the end of the experiment for the histopathological examination to evaluate the harmful effect of aflatoxin in tissues (liver, spleen and intestine) as well as, estimated the production and quality of the produced eggs during experiment study. Abnormal visible symptoms observed on 2nd group include decreased in feed intake and body weight, as well as, in some there was abnormal pigmentation (comb and wattles). The most frequent effects on eggs were poor egg quality as decreased egg production, reduced egg size, thin or rough egg shell. The most common pathological lesions associated with aflatoxin residue in chickens were found in liver, spleen and intestine organs. In advanced cases, these organs become enlarged, swollen and changed colour into yellowish. While in the 3rd group, the macroscopic examination of the same organs was less pronounced and almost invisible. We conclude that silymarin has a significant effect and is highly effective in repairing the damage caused by aflatoxin to the body tissues of laying hens. The production in terms of the quantity and quality of eggs was not affected as well as, improving the health status.
