Continuous mono-cropping of rice has resulted in decline or stagnation of yield output due to the occurrence of multiple nutrient deficiencies and worsening of soil physicochemical properties accompanying increased pressure of insect pests and diseases. The basic concept of integrated nutrient management (INM) is maintenance or adjustment of soil fertility and supply of plant nutrients to an optimum level for sustaining the desired crop productivity through optimisation of benefits from all possible sources of plant nutrients in an integrated way. Augmenting a rice-based cropping system with pulses is a prevalent and indigenous cropping system under rainfed conditions. Considering the above facts, experiments were conducted to evaluate the impacts of integrated nutrient management on productivity of aromatic rice–greengram cropping system and nutrient balance of the post-harvest soil for agricultural sustainability under rainfed conditions in two consecutive years (2017–2018 and 2018–2019) with six main plots and three subplots. The experimental findings revealed that the treatment comprised of 50% recommended dose of fertiliser (RDF) through chemicals + 50% recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN) through farmyard manure (FYM) increased the plant height, tillers, dry matter accumulation, leaf area and leaf area duration, and yield parameters in short grain aromatic rice. Similarly, preceding application of 50% RDF + 50% RDN through FYM to rice and further application 75% RDF + Rhizobium+ phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) to greengram increased the growth characteristics and yield parameters—such as pods/plant, seeds/pod, grain yield, stover yield, and harvest index—in greengram. It was concluded that the treatment consisting of 50% RDF (chemical fertiliser) + 50% RDN (FYM) to rice and 75% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB to greengram increased the productivity of the rice–greengram cropping system. Furthermore, the adoption of INM has positively impacted post-harvest soil nutrient balance.

A study was carried out to assess effect of inorganic fertilizers, vermicompost, Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorhizae (VAM) and biofertilizers [Rhizobium and Phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB)] inoculation on seed yield and quality of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). The experiment was conducted in a split plot design for two consecutive cropping season, kharif 2012 and 2013, with two main plot treatments of inorganic fertilizers i.e. 100% and 75% recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) and nine sub plot integrated nutrient management (INM) treatments including control (No organic fertilizer). Main plot treatments were at par but sub plot INM treatments differed significantly for plant height, seed yield, number of pods/plant, pod length, number of seeds/pod, 1000-seed weight, seed germination and vigour indices. Integrated use of inorganic fertilizers + Vermicompost 2.5 t ha-1 (4.76, 4.16 q ha″1) performed significantly better than the control (3.32, 2.79 q ha″1) for seed yield and its attributes as well as seed quality parameters during Kharif 2012 and 2013, respectively. It was at par with combined use of inorganic fertilizers + biofertilizer inoculation (Rhizobium + PSB) + VAM 10 Kg ha-1 Also, the mean cost benefit ratios (2.04, 1.90) were highest for combination of biofertilizer inoculation (Rhizobium + PSB) + VAM 10 Kg ha-1 +inorganic fertilizers 100% and 75% RDF, respectively.

A field experiment was carried out at Spices Research Centre, Shibgonj, Bogra during two consecutive years, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 to evaluate the response of integrated nutrient management on nutrient uptake, protein content and seed yield of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) var. BARI Fenugreek-2. The field experiment was conducted in combination with inorganic fertilizer and organic manure. The result showed that the treatment T7 compeises application of PM @ 4 t ha-1 + CF (IPNS) produced the maximum seed yield (2.1 t ha-1) but statistically identical to T8 (VC @ 3 t ha-1 + CF (IPNS) and T6 (CD 5 @ ha-1 + CF (IPNS). In case of stover yield, the treatment T7 produced the highest yield (4.89 t ha-1). The grain yield was increased over control and ranged between 65.85 to 156.10 %.The treatments T7 and T8 resulted in higher nutrient use efficiency along with higher N, P, K and S uptake by the plant. The application of inorganic fertilizer along with manure influenced the nutrient concentration in fenugreek seed and stover yield. The higher seed with N, P, K and S concentrations were observed in the treatments where poultry manure @ 4 t ha-1 applied in combination with chemical fertilizers. The combined application of fertilizer and organic manure increased the organic carbon (OC %), organic matter (OM %), total N, available P and available S in post harvest soils. The findings indicate that the integrated use of inorganic fertilizer and organic manure should be encouraged to improvement the deteriorating soil fertility and increased crop yield of fenugreek.SAARC J. An experiment was conducted to study the effect of integrated nutrient management in scented rice and its residual effect on pea under paira cropping system at Regional Research and Technology Transfer Station (RRTTS), Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi, Odisha during 2015-16 and 2016-17. Twelve treatment combinations comprising of T1 - FYM @ 10 t ha-1 + vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 + neem cake @ 2.5 q ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1, T2 - STBFR (Soil test based fertilizer recommendation 75 : 30 : 20 kg N:P2O5: K2O ha-1), T3 - STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1, T4 - STBFR + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1, T5 - STBFR + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1, T6- STBFR + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T7- STBFR + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T8- STBFR + FYM @ 5 t /ha + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T9 - STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1, T10 - STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5kg ha-1+ PSM @ 5kg ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T11 - Farmers practice (only chemical fertilizer @ 40 : 20 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1), T12 - STBFR + vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 were tried in RBD with three replications. The soil of the experimental site was black cotton type having pH- 6.11 , O.C.- 0.72 %, E.C- 0.004 (dS m-1), available N -175.9 kg ha-1 (low), available P-36.7 kg ha-1 (medium) and available K- 283.6 kg ha-1 (high). Geetanjali was the test variety for rice and Azad Pea-1 for pea. Application of STBFR (75 : 30 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1) + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1 (T10) to medium duration aromatic rice (var. Geetanjali) produced higher rice grain yield (4065 kg ha-1) and pea seed yield (1044 kg ha-1) from aromatic rice -pea paira cropping system. However, application of STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1 producing grain yield (3944 kg ha-1) and pea seed yield 977 kg ha-1 is another option. Application of STBFR (75 : 30 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1) + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1 (T10) recorded maximum gross return (Rs. 1,26,991 ha-1) , net return (Rs. 80,146 ha-1) and B : C ratio of 2.71. The increase in rice equivalent yield (REY) in this treatment was 51.4% higher than the farmer practice i,e., application of chemical fertilizers alone (40 : 20 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1).

A field experiment was conducted at Char Jangalia under MLT site, Laxmipur, a coastal district of southern Bangladesh, during Rabi season of 2015-16 to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth and yield performance of soybean (var. Glycine max L.). Six treatment combinations, viz. T1= Control, T2= Farmers practice (25-15 Kg NP ha-1, T3= 100% recommended dose (30-25-55 Kg NP ha-1, K), T4= 50 % recommended dose + 1.5 t ha-1 vermi compost, T5= 50 % recommended dose + 5 t ha-1compost and T6=50 % recommended dose + 1.2 kg ha-1 bio fertilizer were tested. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with 3 replications. There were significant differences among the different treatment combinations in terms of yield and yield contributing characters. Integrated nutrient management with application of 50% of the recommended doses of urea, TSP, MoP, and biofertilizer (Bradyrhizobium) at the rate of 1.2 kg ha-1 significantly increased most of the parameters, such as the plant height, number of nodule per plant, pods per plant, seeds per pod and seed yield. The highest seed yield (2.93 t ha-1) was recorded from T6 while the lowest seed yield (1.83 t ha-1) was obtained from T1. The highest gross return (Tk.117200 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk. 71840 ha-1) was obtained from T6, whereas the lowest gross return (Tk. 70400 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk.27880 ha-1) was obtained from T1. The overall results indicated that the application of integrated nutrient management of a combination of bio fertilizer with 50% N-P-K (15- 12.5-27.5 Kg ha-1) of the recommended dose produced the maximum nodulation and seed yield of soybean in the southern coastal char land.Bangladesh Agron. A field experiment was conducted during rabi (winter) seasons of 2007-08 and 2008-09 to study the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth, yield, oil content and nutrient uptake of yellow sarson (Brassica cam-pestris L var. yellow sarson) in older alluvial soil of West Bengal. Significantly higher leaf area index (1.75 at 40 days after sowing; DAS), dry matter accumulation (1366.9 g/m2 at 80 DAS) and highest number of siliquae/plant (118.3), number of seeds/siliqua (21.8), seed yield (1.90 t/ha), stover yield (3.86 t/ha) were recorded significantly (at 5% lev-el) higher with poultry manure (PM) @2.5t/ha +50%RDF (Recommended Dose of Fertilizer i.e. 80-40-40 of N-P2O5-K2O kg/ha) + PSB (phosphate solubilising bacteria) + AZ (Azotobacter) during both the years and on pooled basis. An average of 30.5% and 233% increase in seed yield by this treatment was recorded over sole application of RDF and control respectively. Integrated application of PM (2.5 t/ha) + 50% RDF + PSB + AZ recorded highest oil content (43.16%) and positive effect on soil fertility status. The highest benefit: cost ratios (2.26 and 2.4 in 2007-'08 and 2008-'09 respectively) were achieved from the use of 50% RDF + PM (2.5 t/ha) +PSB+AZ.
