<p>This report describes the current state of my research in software development environments. I argue in favour of strong support for <em>project management, comprehension and navigation,</em> and <em>collaboration</em> primarily based on experiences from developing large-scale industrial-strength applications.</p><p>An underlying model of such an environment, named ``Ragnarok´´, is outlined. A design and first prototype of important parts of Ragnarok is described as well as some results from initial experiments.</p>

Some tasks will be easier to implement and test, and others will either be un-applicable or difficult to test and implement in comparison with testing in traditional software development environments. For engineering management, product and process quality evaluation are important assessment tools by which managers can have significant indicators of the evaluated project or product. There are many ways and characteristics by which websites can be evaluated. Quality attributes can be external or internal. They can be measured based on the developed product (i.e. the website) or the developing process. In this chapter, the author describes in detail some of the product and process metrics by which websites can be evaluated. They are described based on the major classification: process and product metrics. In each one of those two major classes, the author describes possible measurements, how they can be evaluated, and examples of attributes and tools used in this measurement. Values of measurements can in combination provide useful information for project management and planning. Focusing on only one or two attributes can possibly be insufficient or misleading.

In recent years, following with the development trend of large-scale and complexity in engineering, project management has been more and more difficult, both in China and abroad. Virtual Construction Mode (VCM), the modification and optimization of traditional project management mode, meets the needs for the current large-scale engineering management. With the strong support of Virtual Organization (VO) and Vitrual Technology (VT), VCM has the capacity to promote multi-party coordination, resource conservation, as well as scheme prioritization and so on.

The focus of modern project management is increasingly shifting from the management of individual projects to the management of strategic project-oriented development of organizations. Now there is a need to pay more attention to project management as a universal tool for the development of systems at any level. The aim of the article is to study the processes of organization adaptation to constant changes through a synergetic portfolio of projects based on a strategic plan for the development and evolution of the organization. The spiral movement of systems development for studying development processes is considered: the process of transition of an organization from one stable state to another, the process of radical changes that accompanies innovation, as well as the processes of growth and development of crisis phenomena. The methodological principles of the organization evolutionary development management through the implementation of portfolio using its methods and tools are considered. It is proposed to manage the organization evolutionary development by building actions in the form of a synergistic portfolio of appropriate projects content, in order to increase the value of the entire portfolio of projects over the value of individual projects. The synergetic portfolio of projects is seen as a tool for a harmonious transition to the desired evolutionary state, by preserving the internal integrity of the organization and ensuring its sustainability. A mathematical model for estimating the desired properties and relations of the organizational synergetic portfolio of projects is proposed, which allows to determine and minimize the magnitude of the evolutionary goals inconsistency and to stabilize the current state of organization. It is determined that the two main tasks of any organization - external adaptation and internal integration - constantly push the organization to evolutionary development. The article proposes the author's approach to managing the organization evolutionary development through a portfolio of projects identifies indicators of adaptation of the organization to changes in the environment, defines the conditions for maintaining the integrity of the organization in the process of organizational changes.

A method for high-throughput cloning and analysis of short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs) is described. Using this approach, 464 shRNAs against 116 different genes were screened for knockdown efficacy, enabling rapid identification of effective shRNAs against 74 genes. Statistical analysis of the effects of various criteria on the activity of the shRNAs confirmed that some of the rules thought to govern small interfering RNA (siRNA) activity also apply to shRNAs. These include moderate GC content, absence of internal hairpins, and asymmetric thermal stability. However, the authors did not find strong support for positionspecific rules. In addition, analysis of the data suggests that not all genes are equally susceptible to RNAinterference (RNAi).
