This study investigates factors that influence the acceptance and use of e-Services. The research model includes factors such as user experience, user motivation, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use in explaining the process of e-Services acceptance, use, and continued use. The two core variables of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, are integrated into the Electronic Services Acceptance Model (E-SAM).

This case study examines the Web Electronic Service framework for a University in Australia. The department is in the process of developing and implementing a Web-based e-service system. The user experience to use e-services requires insight into the attributes that shape the experience variable. The descriptive data about the attributes that form the experience variable is provided in this study.

According to a survey by Goo Research (April 2011), the average Japanese person appears to have relied primarily on television news for gathering information in times of disaster, and as unlike a lot of overseas media, the public broadcaster NHK’s news broadcasts were defined as very calm and measured. This chapter focuses on the NHK coverage of the earthquake and nuclear crisis in March 2011 compared with private channels’ and specific websites’ coverage with regard to specific events. The aim is to enlighten the ways and the tools through which Japanese Public Television played a double role: on one side it became a primary source of information for hard news and played a “service” role for the population in need; on the other side and with special regard to the coverage of the nuclear crisis, the duty to inform was balanced by the duty to reassure the public and promote harmony so that NHK privileged government and corporate statements about the Fukushima situation. The authors corroborate their study through an analysis of NHK’s programming and private channels’ changing schedules and advertising during the recent disaster. This chapter provides a concrete example of the potential television role in disaster mitigation, taking into account both the positive and critical aspects.

Information Technology (IT) projects have high failure and escalation rates because of the nature of domain and the rapid technology changes. It is important to understand the factors causing IT project success or failure. This chapter reviews the literature related to project failure and escalation and concludes with 17 important factors that cause IT projects to fail and 10 factors that contribute to the escalation of projects in time, cost, or scope. The concluded factors are utilized in an empirical study to explore the Jordanian environment and check the rank of these factors as perceived by Jordanian specialists. Conclusions and future work are stated at the end of this chapter.

Reliability and serviceability of jet engines in the aviation industry is of paramount importance and is directly related to flight safety. Tight maintenance programs, including scheduled and preventive inspection are in place worldwide for jet engines to ensure air worthiness of aircraft. Old age provides maintenance maturity to the system, but on other hand, it requires focused efforts to ensure reliability due to aging factor. J69-T-25A falls in the same category, as it has been in service for the last six decades. Despite all maintenance efforts, a variety of defects are being faced on J69 engines. The major defects include RPM fluctuation, noise, oil gain, vibration, and smoke. The troubleshooting process identifies a number of components that cause these problems. this chapter is based on statistical analyses of component failure in terms of frequency and fault isolation. The top ten components were selected based upon failure rates and were compared against reported problems to establish a relationship between defects and failed components. Based upon the result, various remedial measures are suggested to reduce defects in the future and increase engine reliability.

This chapter focuses on supply chain strategies that benefit organizations to meet the global challenges and business success. The chapter supports understanding of functional coordination in supply chain management, importance of supply chain partnership and performance measures, bullwhip cause-effect and consequences, business promotion strategies, and approach to synchronize operation schedule to improve supply chain operations. Bullwhip effect is often seen as a challenge to improve supply chain performances. It also discusses the strategies to reduce bullwhip effect, various well-known contract agreements that are currently practiced by many supply chain organizations, its impact and benefits on supply chain success.

The chapter enhances the scientific research in the area of ??the new digital era with a focus on diversity created in real society from the influence of social media. Specifically, it reveals the effects of social media on economic, political, and real society affairs. The latest riots in Middle East countries demonstrate that virtual social communities wield an influence on the citizens, and the changes they implemented show these countries will never be the same again. The effects of social media in real society are examined in highly developed countries such as the EU and North America (USA and Canada).

This chapter is divided into three main sections; project management, HSE management, and quality management. A focus description of the different elements of exploration and production industry along with implementation of management practices on each of these elements including asset/portfolio, resources, time, project planning and scheduling, and proactive risk management are presented. Health safety and environment and quality management are dealt with as separate sections.

Some tasks will be easier to implement and test, and others will either be un-applicable or difficult to test and implement in comparison with testing in traditional software development environments. For engineering management, product and process quality evaluation are important assessment tools by which managers can have significant indicators of the evaluated project or product. There are many ways and characteristics by which websites can be evaluated. Quality attributes can be external or internal. They can be measured based on the developed product (i.e. the website) or the developing process. In this chapter, the author describes in detail some of the product and process metrics by which websites can be evaluated. They are described based on the major classification: process and product metrics. In each one of those two major classes, the author describes possible measurements, how they can be evaluated, and examples of attributes and tools used in this measurement. Values of measurements can in combination provide useful information for project management and planning. Focusing on only one or two attributes can possibly be insufficient or misleading.
