<p>This paper reports the results of an experimental study, made by Henrik Andersen and the author at the Department of Computer Science of Aarhus University as a part of their Masters' Thesis work.</p><p>A comparison is made between a light pen and a joystick, when used for free-hand drawing on a CRT-screen. The joystick proved superior for drawing horizontal and vertical lines, but hardly for anything else. The light pen proved to be an all-round instrument for free-hand drawing.</p><p>The subjects of the experiment were 52 undergraduate students at the Department, each of whom carried out two sessions of drawing a predefined set of images on the screen. After each session the students filled in a questionnaire on their own evaluation of the resulting images.</p><p>The paper contains a discussion of some of the methodological problems which arise in the planning and execution of investigations into man- computer interaction.</p>

This investigation studied the influence of sex, college major, and attributed responsibility on college students' empathic responding towards persons infected with HIV. We hypothesized that (1) women would score higher on empathy than men; (2) nursing and psychology majors would score higher on empathy than business and computer science majors; and (3) participants would score higher on empathy towards a target who contracted HIV through blood transfusion (presented as a Nonresponsible target) rather than through unprotected sex (presented as a Responsible target). Two hundred and fifty-eight undergraduate students (110 male, 148 female) attending a large urban university in the northeast filled out an anonymous demographic questionnaire, the Interpersonal Reactivity Index of Davis (1983), and an Empathy Reaction Scale that was developed by the authors. Results indicated a higher mean Empathy Reaction score from nursing and psychology students as compared to business and computer science students. There was no difference in Empathy Reaction scores between men and women. A higher Empathy Reaction score was found among participants who had read a diary from the target portrayed as Nonresponsible, as opposed to those who read a diary from the target portrayed as Responsible.

The objective of the study is to support students in the rational, logical, and analytical process that they perform when faced with a scientific problem. This study uses qualitative methodology as its purpose is to present the strategy as learning stemming from the process of analysis, which is rooted on how to detect scientifically the research problem in the field of social sciences. A statistical analysis is made on the use and application of the diagram in a sample of 27 undergraduate students who have used the situational map in the elaboration of their theses. The trend shows that 92.6% of respondents achieved concluding their research processes of thesis work, at the planned time, and their results were consistent with their hypothesis and/or purposes. The creation of this strategy is a support for students, who have not developed their ability to think critically and establish relationships between concepts and theories in the execution of scientific research.

ABSTRACTAt Cornell University we are in the third year of teaching an interdisciplinary, undergraduate course on the physical properties and structures of works of Art, and the modern analytical methods used to investigate them: Art, Isotopes, and Analysis. The challenge is to explain concepts familiar to museum scientists and conservators to a group of 150 undergraduate students with a background that ranges from Art History to Computer Science. Painting techniques (Fresco, Tempera, Oil, etc.) are demonstrated to the class. The analytical techniques involve the interactions of electrons, photons, ions and neutrons with pigments and other materials. This instructional approach serves as an introduction to published analyses of works of art.

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) have lately emerged as an effective form of distance education. Computer science is one of those disciplines in which MOOCs are quite common. We conducted a survey to know the opinion of computer science instructors and undergraduate students on MOOCs in an Indian university in March 2018. Of the 26 instructors and 273 students who participated, 73% instructors and 87% students reported to have attended MOOCs. We found that 50% instructors and 72% students considered MOOCs to be a more comprehensive source of knowledge and 54% instructors and 76% students felt that MOOCs let students learn faster when compared to courses taught in a classroom. Moreover, 58% instructors believed that the courses they teach in classrooms can also be taught effectively through MOOCs. The instructors and students appreciated several aspects of MOOCs. However, the students had an opinion that MOOCs can augment classroom teaching but cannot replace it. MOOCs on computer programming (22%), artificial intelligence (9%), and computer networking (8%) were found to be particularly popular among the students.
