Purpose Islamic attributes and activities need to be developed in compliance with the halal concept to attract potential Muslim tourists and ensure the success of halal tourism. Although the literature shows that many factors can influence the success of halal tourism, a complete picture of the success factors of halal tourism in a city is still very limited. As such, this explorative study aims to examine stakeholders’ perspectives regarding the antecedents of halal tourism success and the benefits of halal tourism for the city. Design/methodology/approach Qualitative system dynamics modeling was used for this study, and Makassar (a successful halal tourism city) was considered as the basis for the study. A causal loop diagram (CLD) of halal tourism was developed using the group model building technique to elicit stakeholders’ knowledge and assumptions. Network analysis and feedback loop analysis were used to identify the driving factors of successful halal tourism. Findings Two factors need to be taken into account by halal tourism stakeholders in the city: support from the central and local government and improving and maintaining potential tourists’ perceptions of the city. There are four benefits of halal tourism success for the city: an increase in the number of micro-, small- and medium-sized halal businesses in the city, increased support from the central and local government to further develop halal tourism infrastructure in the city, increased word-of-mouth promotion of Makassar as a tourism destination and a decrease in the price of halal tourism components (e.g. food and accommodation). Originality/value The resulting CLD shows the interlinkage between political, societal and economical factors that could influence the success of halal tourism development. In particular, the findings show how governments and tourism stakeholders need to promote halal tourism socialization in the community and improve the public perception of this type of tourism. Therefore, the findings can help destination stakeholders and tourism developers in other cities develop halal tourism potential.

The article seeks to address contemporary challenges in developing integrated business structures associated with the need to upgrade and innovate most important industries, provide industrial restructuring, and reduce technological backwardness and attain high-tech manufacturing growth. An emphasis is put on the critical significance of modernization in gaining a competitive edge of the national economy that will enhance Ukraine’s positions in a modern globalized world. This study employs a wide range of various research tools, in particular, methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization and comparison – to determine the nature, economic content, structural elements and drivers affecting the process of integrated business structure development in Ukraine; structural and functional analysis – to identify relevant institutional structures; as well as integrated assessment techniques – to explore international best practice in building integrated business units. Given the current trends and the specifics, it is argued that company development within a business group model spurs continuous improvement and innovation to meet market digitalization demands. The findings reveal the key aspects in developing integrated business groups as a new type of institutional structures in Ukraine. The study also focuses on the goals of their further development to implement transformational changes along with considering a number of factors affecting the nature of enterprise reorganizations and restructuring in the frameworks of their integration into business groups. Within the scope of this research, integrated business groups are viewed as a driving force in boosting Ukraine's economic development. The study suggests that the government industrial and antitrust policies should actively promote integrated business group models, including the international ones, as long as corporate and national interests are reconciled. It is reported that integrated business groups account for 15% of the total industrial output, respectively, integrated business groups are mesoeconomic entities representing a new type of a social institution that attempts to forecast supply and demand in a particular world market segment and implements its predictive outcomes through big innovations.

Background. Clinical studies have shown that electroacupuncture (EA) promotes gallbladder motility and alleviates gallstone. However, the mechanism underlying the effects of EA on gallstone is poorly understood. In this study, the mRNA transcriptome analysis was used to study the possible therapeutic targets of EA. Methods. Hartley SPF guinea pigs were employed for the gallstone models. Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform was used for the RNA sequencing of guinea pig gallbladders in the normal group (Normal), gallstone model group (Model), and EA-treated group (EA). Differently expressed genes (DEGs) were examined separately in Model vs. Normal and EA vs. Model. DEGs reversed by EA were selected by comparing the DEGs of Model vs. Normal and EA vs. Model. Biological functions were enriched by gene ontology (GO) analysis. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was analyzed. Results. After 2 weeks of EA, 257 DEGs in Model vs. Normal and 1704 DEGs in EA vs. Model were identified. 94 DEGs reversed by EA were identified among these DEGs, including 28 reversed upregulated DEGs and 66 reversed downregulated DEGs. By PPI network analysis, 10 hub genes were found by Cytohubba plugin of Cytoscape. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) verified the changes. Conclusion. We identified a few GOs and genes that might play key roles in the treatment of gallstone. This study may help understand the therapeutic mechanism of EA for gallstone.

Background We applied a participatory system dynamics (SD) modeling approach to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of Connecticut Good Samaritan Laws (GSLs) that are designed to promote bystander intervention during an opioid overdose event and reduce opioid overdose-related adverse outcomes. Our SD model can be used to predict whether additional revisions of the statutes might make GSLs more effective. SD modeling is a novel approach for assessing the impact of GSLs; and, in this protocol paper, we describe its applicability to our policy question, as well as expected outcomes of this approach. Methods This project began in February 2021 and is expected to conclude by March 2022. During this time, a total of six group model-building (GMB) sessions will have been held with key stakeholders to elicit feedback that will, in turn, contribute to the development of a more robust SD model. Session participants include bystanders who witness an overdose, law enforcement personnel, first responders, pharmacists, physicians, and other health care professionals who work in at least two major metropolitan areas of Connecticut (New Haven and Hartford). Due to the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the sessions are being held virtually via Zoom. The information obtained during these sessions will be integrated with a draft SD model that has already been developed by the modeling team as part of a previous CDC-funded project. Model calibration and policy simulations will then be performed to assess the impact of the current GSLs and to make recommendations for future public policy changes. Discussion An SD modeling approach enables capture of complex interrelationships among multiple health outcomes to better assess the drivers of the opioid epidemic in Connecticut. The model simulation results are expected not only to align with current real-world data but also to recreate historical trends and infer future trends in a situationally relevant fashion. This will facilitate the work of policy makers who are devising and implementing time-sensitive changes to address opioid overdose-related deaths at the state level. Replicating our approach as described can be applied to make similar improvements in other jurisdictions. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LITERATURE - System dynamics (SD) modeling and group model-building (GMB) approaches enable the group to start with a simple concept model and apply the collective knowledge of the group to finish the session with a much more developed model that can produce impressively accurate simulation results. - The model will be used to understand the impact of Connecticut Good Samaritan Laws (GSLs), as well as their limitations, and to deduce factors to further improve public health laws to counter opioid overdose-related deaths. - The approach can be applied to other jurisdictions, taking into account local conditions and existing Good Samaritan legislation. Arthritis and osteoporosis are two common disorders in the world, especially for the elder, but the current treatments have limited efficacy. Herein, we aimed to determine whether the novel technique, neurological training can alleviate osteoporosis complicated with arthritis in rat model. Thirty rats were assigned into normal group, model group, and treatment group (treated with forsythin and neurological training) (n = 10) followed by assessment of chondrocytes and osteoblasts using Mankin score, apoptosis by TUNEL and flow cytometry, and IL-1β, TNF-α, and Aggrecan levels. Apoptotic chondrocytes of treatment group (27.43±1.34) was lower than model group (p < 0.05), whereas amount of osteoblast was increased upon forsythin and neurological training, with lower Mankin’s score (6.38±0.76). Besides, the content of IL-1β and TNF-α of treatment group was significantly lower but Aggrecan mRNA and protein expression was significantly higher. In conclusion, neurological training could protect and alleviate osteoporosis complicated with arthritis.

To solve the shortcomings of traditional Zeji extractum liquidum (traditional Chinese medicine used for wound healing), and to explore the effect of Zeji Etractum Lquidum (ZLE) Nano Materials (ZLENM) on chronic wound (CW) healing and its molecular mechanism. 30 SD rats were divided into 3 groups in random: control group (Ctrl group), model group (CW group), and treatment group (ZLENM group). The results of wound healing rate showed that, in contrast with the CW, the healing rate of back wounds in the ZLENM group was greatly increased on the 7th and 14th days (P < 0.05). In contrast with the Ctrl, the rats in the CW and the ZLENM groups had greatly increased CD31 positive staining on the 7th and 14th days (P < 0.05), and the CW was lower than the ZLENM group (P < 0.05). In contrast with the 7th day, the MVD in the CW and the ZLENM groups was greatly reduced on the 14th day (P < 0.05). Western blot analysis of the expression of related signal molecules showed that the expressions of P-Akt, P-PI3K, HIF-1α, and VEGFR2 protein in the wounds in the CW and ZLENM groups were greatly increased in contrast with the Ctrl (P < 0.05), and CW was lower than ZLENM group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, ZLENM can promote wound healing and increase the number of wound angiogenesis in CW rats. The mechanism is related to the activation of phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase/protein kinase B/hypoxia induction factor 1α (PI3K/AKT/HIF-1α) signaling pathway.

Coix seed is a functional food in the Chinese diet that possesses the ability to alleviate ulcerative colitis clinically. However, the underlying mechanisms remain ambiguous. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of the Coix seed diet on experimental colitis mice. The mice were randomly divided into four groups: control group, model group, Coix seed feed group, and positive control group. The maintenance feed of the mice was replaced with Coix seed feed 10 days before orally administering the mice 5% (w/v) dextran sulfate sodium drink. As a result, the Coix seed feed alleviated colitis symptoms, maintained the complete blood count at a normal level, reduced the pathological score, relieved inflammatory cytokine secretion, and alleviated oxidative stress. Network pharmacology analysis was used for further exploration of the targets of Coix seed feed. The results showed that T-cell regulation is one of the targets of Coix seed feed, and the analysis of the T-lymphocyte subset and innate immune cell distribution of the colon tissue supported the network pharmacology results. In conclusion, Coix seed, as a staple food, can alleviate experimental colitis, and the mechanism may be related to the immune regulation effect of Coix seeds.

Abstract Background Rates of childhood obesity are increasing globally, with poor dietary quality an important contributory factor. Evaluation of longitudinal diet quality across early life could identify timepoints and subgroups for nutritional interventions as part of effective public health strategies. Objective This research aimed to: (1) define latent classes of mother-offspring diet quality trajectories from pre-pregnancy to child age 8–9 years, (2) identify early life factors associated with these trajectories, and (3) describe the association between the trajectories and childhood adiposity outcomes. Design Dietary data from 2963 UK Southampton Women’s Survey mother-offspring dyads were analysed using group-based trajectory modelling of a diet quality index (DQI). Maternal diet was assessed pre-pregnancy and at 11- and 34-weeks’ gestation, and offspring diet at ages 6 and 12 months, 3, 6-7- and 8–9-years using interviewer-administered food frequency questionnaires. At each timepoint, a standardised DQI was derived using principal component analysis. Adiposity age 8–9 years was assessed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and BMI z-scores. Results A five-trajectory group model was identified as optimal. The diet quality trajectories were characterised as stable, horizontal lines and were categorised as poor (n = 142), poor-medium (n = 667), medium (n = 1146), medium-better (n = 818) and best (n = 163). A poorer dietary trajectory was associated with higher maternal pre-pregnancy BMI, smoking, multiparity, lower maternal age and lower educational attainment. Using linear regression adjusted for confounders, a 1-category decrease in the dietary trajectory was associated with higher DXA percentage body fat (0.08 SD (95% confidence interval 0.01, 0.15) and BMI z-score (0.08 SD (0.00, 0.16) in the 1216 children followed up at age 8–9 years. Conclusion Mother-offspring dietary trajectories are stable across early life, with poorer diet quality associated with maternal socio-demographic and other factors and childhood adiposity. The preconception period may be an important window to promote positive maternal dietary changes in order to improve childhood outcomes.

Background: Skepticism of therapy and stigma are significant barriers for veterans with mental health issues. Therapeutic adventure shows promise in addressing veterans’ mental health needs while circumventing the stigma many veterans face in initiating treatment. Purpose: Given the small group model of therapeutic adventure programs, such programs may be ideal to provide social support for veterans and reduce mental health symptomology. The present study investigated: can a brief peer-led therapeutic adventure program modify veterans’ mental health symptoms? Methodology/Approach: The study's sample included 56 participants attending one Sierra Club Military Outdoors trip lasting at least three days and two nights and involving camping. Participants completed study measurements assessing depression, anxiety, stress, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms, substance misuse symptoms, and suicidality at pre-trip, post-trip, one-month post trip, six-months post trip, and 12-months post trip. Six-month and 12-month post-trip data was collected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings/Conclusions: Results indicated significant reduction in mental health symptomology from pre-trip to post-trip, but showed few longer-term changes in mental health symptomology. Implications: The present study's findings are consistent with research suggesting improvements in overall psychological well-being immediately following a nature-based intervention and suggest the need for on-going, community-based interventions to support optimally military veterans’ mental health.

Network interaction has evolved into a grouping paradigm as civilization has progressed and artificial intelligence technology has advanced. This network group model has quickly extended communication space, improved communication content, and tailored to the demands of netizens. The fast growth of the network community on campus can assist students in meeting a variety of communication needs and serve as a vital platform for their studies and daily lives. It is investigated how to extract opinion material from comment text. A strategy for extracting opinion attitude words and network opinion characteristic words from a single comment text is offered at a finer level. The development of a semiautonomous domain emotion dictionary generating technique improves the accuracy of opinion and attitude word extraction. This paper proposes a window-constrained Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic model that improves the accuracy of extracting network opinion feature words and ensures that network opinion feature words and opinion attitude words are synchronized by using the location information of opinion attitude words. The two-stage opinion leader mining approach and the linear threshold model based on user roles are the subjects of model simulation tests in this study. It is demonstrated that the two-stage opinion leader mining method suggested in this study can greatly reduce the running time while properly finding opinion leaders with stronger leadership by comparing the results with existing models. It also shows that the linear threshold model based on user roles proposed in this paper can effectively limit the total number of active users who are activated multiple times during the information diffusion process by distinguishing the effects of different user roles on the information diffusion process.
