The Doctoral Thesis “Methodological solutions for the implementation of multi-apartment building management and administration processes in the context of housing policy” is an independent scientific study developed in the Department of Building Entrepreneurship and Real Estate Economics of Institute of Building Entrepreneurship and Real Estate Economics, Riga Technical University. The scientific supervisor of the Doctoral Thesis is Professor Dr. Oec. Ineta Geipele. The objective of the Doctoral Thesis is to develop a methodological solution for the implementation of the information exchange system processes of housing policy and multi apartment building (MAB) management and administration activities with the scope to improve economic, strategic planning processes of the state and municipal companies, as well as building management companies. The Doctoral Thesis consists of Introduction, three parts, nine chapters, four sub-chapters, conclusions, proposals, a list of literature and sources used, and 23 appendices. The introduction of the Doctoral Thesis comprises a description of the topicality of the chosen theme, hypothesis of the research, defined goals of the study and tasks to achieve them, the object and subject of the research, methodological description of the research, restrictions, theoretical significance and scientific novelty of the research, as well as approbation and practical application of the research results. In Part I of the Doctoral Thesis, theoretical aspects of planning of the MAB management and administration process are analysed. Within the framework of Part II, an analytical evaluation of problems with regard to the MAB management and administration process is presented. Part III presents the results of the study of interrelation between the housing policy and the MAB management and administration process impact indicators and proposes a methodological solution for the improvement of mutual information flow of the housing policy and MAB management and administration. In the conclusion of the Doctoral Thesis, conclusions and proposals for the solutions of the improvement of information flow for planning of the housing policy and MAB management and administration processes are provided.

To promote the ease of use and reliability of IEC 61968 based Information Exchange Bus and fulfill the rapid establishment of inter-buses and adapters-bus communication channels, this article first analyzes the status quo of distribution automation integrity. Combined with the concept of universal PnP technology, the functions of IEC 61968 based adapters as well as buses are improved and more adapted. Considering characteristics of IEC 61968 standards, components like adapter identification information, topic-authorization table, and topic-authorization routing table are introduced and then a set of special mechanisms are built, including binding&unbinding procedures for inter-buses and adapters-buses, retransmission scheme, and mergence of topic authorization routing tables used to control information flow. By implementing this theory, the adapters-buses and inter-buses PnP functions are realized and the ease of use and reliability of smart grid information exchange buses are enhanced.

Often in climate system studies, linear and symmetric statistical measures are applied to quantify interactions among subsystems or variables. However, they do not allow identification of the driving and responding subsystems. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to apply asymmetric measures from information theory: the axiomatically proposed transfer entropy and the first principle-based information flow to detect and quantify climate interactions. As their estimations are challenging, we initially tested nonparametric estimators like transfer entropy (TE)-binning, TE-kernel, and TE k-nearest neighbor and parametric estimators like TE-linear and information flow (IF)-linear with idealized two-dimensional test cases along with their sensitivity on sample size. Thereafter, we experimentally applied these methods to the Lorenz-96 model and to two real climate phenomena, i.e., (1) the Indo-Pacific Ocean coupling and (2) North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO)–European air temperature coupling. As expected, the linear estimators work for linear systems but fail for strongly nonlinear systems. The TE-kernel and TE k-nearest neighbor estimators are reliable for linear and nonlinear systems. Nevertheless, the nonparametric methods are sensitive to parameter selection and sample size. Thus, this work proposes a composite use of the TE-kernel and TE k-nearest neighbor estimators along with parameter testing for consistent results. The revealed information exchange in Lorenz-96 is dominated by the slow subsystem component. For real climate phenomena, expected bidirectional information exchange between the Indian and Pacific SSTs was detected. Furthermore, expected information exchange from NAO to European air temperature was detected, but also unexpected reversal information exchange. The latter might hint to a hidden process driving both the NAO and European temperatures. Hence, the limitations, availability of time series length and the system at hand must be taken into account before drawing any conclusions from TE and IF-linear estimations.

We quantify the strength and the directionality of information transfer between the Ghana stock market index and its component stocks as well as observe the same among the individual stocks on the market using transfer entropy. The information flow between the market index and its components and among individual stocks is measured by the effective transfer entropy of the daily logarithm returns generated from the daily market index and stock prices of 32 stocks ranging from 2nd January 2009 to 16th February 2018. We find a bidirectional and unidirectional flow of information between the GSE index and its component stocks, and the stocks dominate the information exchange. Among the individual stocks, SCB is the most active stock in the information exchange as it is the stock that receives the highest amount of information, but the most informative source is EGL (an insurance company) that has the highest net information outflow while the most information sink is PBC that has the highest net information inflow. We further categorize the stocks into 9 stock market sectors and find the insurance sector to be the largest source of information which confirms our earlier findings. Surprisingly, the oil and gas sector is the information sink. Our results confirm the fact that other sectors including oil and gas mitigate their risk exposures through insurance companies and are always expectant of information originating from the insurance sector in relation to regulatory compliance issues. It is our firm conviction that this study would allow stakeholders of the market to make informed buy, sell, or hold decisions.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to address challenges in the current information exchange process between building information modelling (BIM) and facilities management (FM) systems and to propose a workable solution. This study’s objective is to identify the information exchange requirements and to develop methods for seamless information flow between building information models and FM systems. Design/methodology/approach Data collection and analysis was based on an extensive literature review of similar studies followed by a questionnaire survey with a total of 112 participants and 2 focus groups with a total of 12 participants to validate the conceptual framework. The outputs of the survey analysis formed the background of the proposed framework to streamline information exchange process between building information models and FM systems. Findings The study findings form a foundation for enabling the integration of various data sources including building information models. Such integrated platforms will enable automated information exchange between the various data sources and FM systems. The study also provides key information requirements sources to complement the existing construction operations building information exchange information and to support standardization for information exchange process. Originality/value The contribution of this study is the identification of information exchange requirements and sources to enable seamless information flow between BIM and FM systems. The study findings will also lay the basis for research studies using the developed framework context to enable the identification of specific data outputs for FM systems inputs.
