14-17 May 2013, Oslo, NorwayWe have received more than 200 full papers for the 2nd International Conference for Design Education Researchers in Oslo. This international conference is a springboard for sharing ideas and concepts about contemporary design education research. Contributors are invited to submit research that deals with different facets of contemporary approaches to design education research. All papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed. This conference is open to research in any aspect and discipline of design educationConference themeDesign Learning for Tomorrow - Design Education from Kindergarten to PhDDesigned artefacts and solutions influence our lives and values, both from a personal and societal perspective. Designers, decision makers, investors and consumers hold different positions in the design process, but they all make choices that will influence our future visual and material culture. To promote sustainability and meet global challenges for the future, professional designers are dependent on critical consumers and a design literate general public.  For this purpose design education is important for all. We propose that design education in general education represents both a foundation for professional design education and a vital requirement for developing the general public’s competence for informed decision making.REGISTRATION AT http://www.hioa.no/DRScumulus

All papers published in this volume of Journal of Physics: Conference Series have been peer reviewed through processes administered by the Editors. Reviews were conducted by expert referees to the professional and scientific standards expected of a proceedings journal published by IOP Publishing. • Type of peer review: Single-blind / Double-blind / Triple-blind / Open / Other In our conference, we do a single-blind peer review where the author does not know who the reviewers are. Submitting papers, editor decisions, review processes were conducted through our system http://ice-elinvo.uny.ac.id/. Reviews were conducted by expert referees to the professional and scientific standards. • Describe criteria used by Reviewers when accepting/declining papers. Was there the opportunity to resubmit articles after revisions? Six criteria must be met by the papers that are included in the ICE-ELINVO 2021 international conference. All reviewers must refer to these six criteria. 1. Is the paper relevant to the conference theme? 2. Does it contribute to the theoretical or practical domains? 3. Does it state the problem statement? 4. Does it comprise an appropriate research methodology or proposed method? 5. Does it describe indicative results? 6. Does it fulfill the requirements of the paper template? Each criterion has a value from the range 1-4. The reviewer will evaluate each criterion, and then the system will add up all the scores for each criterion. The maximum total value is 24. The next stage is that the reviewer will send back the paper reviewed to the author through the system. Finally, authors are given two weeks to correct and resubmit. • Conference submission management system: http://ice-elinvo.uny.ac.id (our University has our own management system for reviewing articles) • Number of submissions received: 84 Papers • Number of submissions sent for review: 68 Papers • Number of submissions accepted: 56 Papers • Acceptance Rate (Number of Submissions Accepted / Number of Submissions Received X 100): 66.67 • Average number of reviews per paper: 2 • Total number of reviewers involved: 48 • Any additional info on review process (ie plagiarism check system): Each manuscript submitted to the ICE-ELINVO 2021 international conference was checked for plagiarism using Turnitin. • Contact person for queries: Muhammad Luthfi Hakim, Department of Electrical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This reflective note is a response to the first international Conference on Transformative Education Research and Sustainable Development that took place in Dhulikhel, Nepal, in October 2016. In this reflective note, I begin by pondering on what makes a novice academic creative and transformative. Then, I deal with the conference atmosphere, contemplate how it connects close to my heart, and finally conclude with my realisation of transformation inside. I particularly reflect on my experiences of being a volunteer to help the scholars from various parts of the world; a rapporteur to witness various talk presentations and report on them; and a participant to attend and learn from some exemplary reports and presentations – all centred at transformative education.

The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at West Point has recently established a multi-disciplinary research and educational outreach center that has a two-fold mission: enhance the undergraduate educational experience of students and assist in solving real-world technical problems, supporting global Army operations. This is accomplished by tying projects directly to the undergraduate education mission and gaining efficiency by consolidating administrative and outreach functions for multiple existing research programs. The paper describes the Center for Innovation and Engineering (CIE), its lines of effort, and several past and current initiatives. Assessment data from students participating in the senior capstone design course, which is closely tied to the CIE, reinforces the importance of multi-disciplinary, client-based projects in the engineering education experience.

This issue of FORMakademisk is built upon papers from the DRS//CUMULUS Oslo 2013 conference — 2nd International Conference for Design Education Researchers — at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HIOA) 14-17 May 2013 in Oslo. The conference was a cooperative event between the Design Research Society (DRS) and the International Association of Universities and Schools of Design, Art and Media (CUMULUS), and hosted by the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design at HIOA. The theme for the conference was Design Learning for Tomorrow — Design Education from Kindergarten to PhD. The conference received an overwhelming response both ahead of the conference, with 225 admitted papers, and during the conference with 280 delegates from 43 countries listening to 165 presentations and having a good time in Oslo. The last day of the conference was the 17th of May, Norway National Day, with traditional songs and a children’s parade in the centre of Oslo.We see this positive response to the conference as a growing awareness of perceiving design in a broad interdisciplinary perspective in support for a better tomorrow. For years the Design Literacy Research Group, with a base at HIOA in Oslo, has promoted the idea that sustainable design solutions should include more than ‘professional’ designers; they should also include the general public as ‘conscious’ consumers and decision makers with responsibility for quality and longevity, as opposed to a ‘throw-away’ society.

Dear Readers,   It is a great honor for us to publish Volume 7, Issue 4 of Global Journal of Arts Education.   Global Journal of Arts Education (GJAE) is an international peer-refereed journal that provides an international form for research in the field of the art and creative education. The journal welcomes a wide range of theoretical and methodological approaches to research, and encourages submissions from the broader fields of education and the arts that are related with learning and teaching through art education. The journal publishes original research articles or comprehensive reviews on design, culture, architecture, aesthetics, arts history, arts ethics, graphic design and ceramics that are related with the area of education.   Aim of this issue is to give the researchers an opportunity to share the results of their academic studies. There are different research topics discussed in the articles. For example, Seza Soylucicek discussed the situation and importance of game interface design education in Turkey and a lesson proposal. Finally, Nihan Canbakal Ataoglu examined education of basic arts by touching Seljukian inheritance. This study involved the basic principles of design and the characteristic elements of buildings that created the urban identity, the process of manufacture from theory to application and the educational outcomes of this class for students.   A total number of nine (9) manuscripts were submitted for this issue and each paper has been subjected to double-blind peer review process by the reviewers specialized in the related field. At the end of the review process, a total number of two (2) high quality research papers were selected and accepted for publication.   We present many thanks to all the contributors who helped us to publish this issue.   Best regards,   Prof. Dr. Ayse Cakir Ilhan Editor – in Chief

This non-refereed contribution to the special issue of Journal of Education and Research portrays the reflective experiences of a novice researcher who attended the First International Conference on Transformative Education Research and Sustainable Development in Dhulikhel, Nepal, in October 2016. I begin by introducing my interest in participating in academic and scientific conferences, reflect upon the mentorship received during my Master of Philosophy study at Kathmandu University School of Education, examine my dual roles of a volunteer in conference organization and a poster presenter at the same conference, and share my impressions of the conference environment. I conclude with some final thoughts on how I could enlarge conference learning.
