To explore the effect of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) on neonatal birth weight and provide the necessary reference value for the maternal and children health service. A cross-sectional study was carried out in Shaanxi Province of China in 2013. And a total of 28 045 singleton live infants and their mothers were recruited using a stratified, multistage, probability-proportional-to-size sampling method. Among the 28 045 women of childbearing age surveyed, multiple linear regression and quantile regression analysis all showed that the birth weight of newborns whose mothers had suffered from PIH during pregnancy was significantly lower than those whose mothers had not suffered from PIH during pregnancy from very low to higher birth weight percentiles (q=0–0.85), an average decrease of 137.45 g (β=−137.45, t=−5.77 and p<0.001). When birth weight was at q=0.90–1.00 percentiles, there was no birth weight difference between two groups. The present cross-sectional study indicated that PIH had an effect of on neonatal birth weight. When pregnant women with PIH are identified then the healthcare professional initiates a closer supervision of their pregnancy in order to ameliorate the status of BP and provide a good intrauterine environment for the fetus. In addition, the gynecologists should admonish the pregnant women that their health is related to the health of their fetus, then gravidas may be more engaged to alert their physician and accept early or preventative interventions. And the healthcare professional should ask and be alert to the issues of hypertension during pregnancy.

The problem of balanced nutrition in Indonesia is still a serious problem. Essentially stems from a lack of economic conditions and limited knowledge about nutrition in Indonesia. Lack or excess of food during pregnancy can have a negative effect on the mother, the fetus and the course of delivery. Therefore, attention to nutrition and control of body weight (BB) during pregnancy is of the important things in health surveillance during pregnancy. To determine the relationship between maternal nutritional status before pregnancy and weight gain during pregnancy. The type of research used is the result of a descriptive research design that aims to determine the relationship between maternal nutritional status before pregnancy and weight gain during pregnancy. The population of thitd trimester III pregnant women in the PMB Midwife W working area, west bandung district, was 55 people. To get the number of respondents, the research was was collected using a cross sectional study design technique with all 3 trimester pregnant women checking their weight and height. Then The researcher will calculate using BMI formula, namely body weight (in kg) : height squared (in maters). Followed by data analysis through several stages starting with editing, coding, tabulation. The results of the study obtained from 55 respondents of the nutritional status of pregnant women that almost half of the respondents of the nutritional status of pregnant women in the normal category were 22 people with a presentation of 40%. Of the 55 respondents who gained weight in the good category, 20 people had a percentage of 36.4%. There is a relationship between maternal nutritional status before preganancy at PMB Midwife W West Bandung Regency. This can be proven by the results of stastical test using Chi – square in this study showing p =, 000 < 0.05

Background: Adequate nutrition is essential in early childhood to ensure healthy growth and development, proper organ functions and a strong immunity. Accurate assessment of nutritional status of children is a requisite in appropriate planning and effective implementation of nutrition interventions. The objective of this study is to assess nutritional status of children under five year of age in rural area and to identify the socio-demographic factors associated with under nutrition. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among children aged six months to five years in rural area of Jhalawar, Rajasthan. Nutritional status of the children was assessed by measurement of mid upper arm circumference and information like birth order of children, birth weight and number of siblings was collected using a pre-coded and semi structured questionnaire. Results: Moderate under-nutrition was present in 16.8% children. Under-nutrition was present among 9.9% male and 24.2% female children. 38.1% children with birth weight less than 2.5 kg were under-nourished. Proportion of under-nutrition was 27.7% among children with number of siblings more than 2 while it was only 11.1% among those with 2 or less number of siblings. Conclusions: Gender, number of siblings and birth weight of children were significantly associated with nutrition status of children.

Abstract Background Nutrition was claimed to be a factor in MS causation, course, complications, and management. Several studies were conducted to assess the nutritional status of MS patients; however, few studies were conducted to assess this problem in Egypt. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to assess the nutritional status of a sample of MS patients. Methods The researchers conducted an exploratory cross-sectional study among 76 relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients attending Kasr Alainy Multiple Sclerosis Unit (KAMSU) from October 2018 to January 2019 to assess the nutritional status of a sample of MS patients. Data were collected using a structured interview questionnaire including an inquiry about the socioeconomic status, and nutritional status using anthropometric measurements, patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA), semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires (SQFFQ), and hemoglobin level measurement. Assessment of fatigue was done using the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale 5-items version. Results The mean age of the study participants was 30 ± 6 years. The disease duration ranged from 2 to 264 months. Malnutrition was prevalent among 67.1% (27.6 % overweight, 36.8% obese, and 2.6% underweight). Half of the investigated patients were anemic. According to the PG-SGA, more than half of the studied patients (53.9%) were classified as moderately or suspected malnourished. The unhealthy dietary habits such as taking only a few meals, junk food intake and skipping breakfast were observed in considerable proportions of the group. The SQFFQ revealed overconsumption of energy and fat, and less than acceptable consumption of dietary fibers by most of the studied patients. Conclusions Overweight, obesity, anemia, and unhealthy dietary habits were prevalent among the RRMS patients attending the KAMSU. Nutrition care service is extremely needed for this group of patients.

AbstractBackgroundAdolescent girls are vulnerable to many problems, undernutrition being the most common. This results in growth restriction resulting in stunting, wasting, underweight and last but not the least iron-deficiency anaemia. Nutritional needs are high during puberty which later leads to complications during pregnancy and its outcomes.Materials and methodsA field based cross-sectional study was carried out to assess the nutritional status of the girls and to determine the various factors responsible for undernutrition. After clearance from the Institution Ethical Committee (IEC) and permission from Child Development Programme Officer (CDPO), the study was conducted in the anganwadi centres (AWC) of urban slums in the field practice area of the Department of Community Medicine from the 1st October 2014 to the 31st October 2016. All the adolescent girls enlisted in the seven anganwadi centres were included as study subjects with their consent. A pre-designed, pre-tested and semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data on following sections. (a) socio-demographic profile and (b) nutritional status. Dietary intake was taken using the 24-h recall method. Anthropometry was measured and haemoglobin (Hb) was estimated. SPSS version 21 was used for descriptive and analytic statistics.ResultsAmong the 160 girls 98(61.3%), 69(43.1%), 53(33.1%) were underweight, stunted and wasted, respectively. Anaemia was present among 144(90%) of the girls.ConclusionStrict monitoring of weekly iron and folic acid supplementation (WIFS) as well as nutrition education are essential measures to solve the problem of undernutrition among adolescent girls.
