INEQUALITY, DIFFERENCE, ARTICULATION

This article studies the tensions and overlaps between inequality and difference starting from two complementary questions: When do differences become politically relevant? How do inequalities and differences correlate? The argument is first developed through a critical discussion of three influential approaches in contemporary academic and political debates: the recognition-redistribution paradigm, as developed by N. Fraser and A. Honneth, the categorical inequalities approach of C. Tilly and the horizontal-vertical inequalities approach of F. Stewart. In spite of their divergences, these three approaches present a common conceptual limitation, which is to treat dynamic differences as binary and fixed categories: black-whites, menwomen, mestizos-indigenous, etc. To overcome this deficit, I develop in the present article, starting from the concept of articulation, an analytical matrix according to which differences represent positionalities or sites of enunciation within hierarchical social relations. The nexus between differences and inequalities is illustrated by the recent articulation of the quilombolas in Brazil.

Key words: Difference. Inequality. Articulation. Positionality. Abstract The religious feasts nowadays have become driving forces of articulations of symbolical, cultural and social orders and are able to promote positive social relations which materialize on the spatial plan. Popular Catholicism ensures the constitution of a web of meanings lived and experienced in and by several rites and ritualistic practices which are essential for religious feasts. Particularly here, the patron saints ones. In the state of Goiás, these celebrations, especially those belonging to the popular Catholicism are presented as identity binds. They surpass practices which are eminently religious by translating into territorial links established between resident/devotee and non-resident/devotee to the place of the feast. The present text will present an analysis of the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary , the patron saint of three municipalities in Goias, also celebrated in fifteen other municipalities in the form of regional feasts (congadas, follies and reigns). Methodologically, the spatial cutting for the analysis is delimited to the cities of Pirenópolis and Monte Alegre. The goal is to present the referred feast through a symbolic web translated into the images, as well as by an appreciation of the observation criteria built during on-site visits.

- Image The present article focuses on two topics underlying the lecture given by Maurice Merleau-Ponty in 1945 at the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques, in Paris. One is the reflection on the peculiarities of filmic expression and cinematic image; the other, the convergence between the inspiration of cinema and that of philosophy, which Merleau-Ponty sees as a significant feature of his time: a convergence which the cinema of the nouvelle vague was also to acknowledge and which Christian Metz was to confirm retrospectively. Moreover, in developing both topics, the author finds a way to interpret Merleau-Ponty's lecture as an undeclared polemical response to Henri Bergson's famous negative judgement on cinema.Key words: Cinematic Image, Gestalt Psychology, Melody, Montage, Perception, Rhythm.Parole chiave: Dinamica di legittimazione, Immagine, Identitŕ, Narrazione, Soggetto, Tempo.

The present article examines pieces for piano written by Moldavian composers Ștefan and Gheorghe Neaga. Created in the 1930s and 1950s, they are representative examples of the genre of miniature in the national music of the 20th century. The pieces share a number of common traits: they have a solid national basis, are rooted in the genres of Moldavian folklore and are characterized by simplicity of the musical language and convincing compositional and dramaturgic developments. Figurative-emotional and intonational brightness of these miniatures, which were written at a high professional level, determined their viability and their ample potential for being included in the pedagogical repertoire. Key words: Ștefan Neaga, Gheorghe Neaga, piece for piano, pedagogic repertoire, Moldavian folklore, piano texture.

While debt has the capacity to sustain social relations by joining together the two parties of a debt relation, it also contains the risk of deteriorating into domination and bargaining. Throughout history, different understandings of debt have therefore gravitated between reciprocity and domination, making it a key concept for understanding the dynamics of both social cohesion and fragmentation. The book considers the social, spatial and temporal meanings of this ambiguity and relates them to contemporary debates over debts between North and South in Europe, which in turn are embedded in a longer global history of North-South relations. The individual chapters discuss how debts incurred in the past are mobilised in political debates in the present. This dynamic is highlighted with regard to regional and global North-South relations. An essential feature in debates on this topic is the difficult question of retribution and possible ways of “paying” – a term that is etymologically connected to “pacification” – for past injustice. Against this backdrop, the book combines a discussion of the multi-layered European and global North-South divide with an effort to retrieve alternatives to the dominant and divisive uses of debt for staking out claims against someone or something. Discovering new and forgotten ways of thinking about debt and North-South relations, the chapters are divided into four sections that focus on 1) debt and social theory, 2) Greece and Germany as Europe’s South and North, 3) the ‘South’ between the local, the regional and the global, and 4) debt and the politics of history.

There is a critique of capitalist market economy that consists in claiming not only that capitalist social relations are uncaring and alienating, nor only exploitative of the working class, but that the process of capitalist economy as a whole is a way of living, today globalized, that has gotten out of hand. Its essential nature is unmasked as a senseless circular movement that, besides ruthlessly exploiting natural resources, demeans human being itself and alienates it from the historical alternative of a purportedly authentic mode of human being rooted in collective, solidaric subjectivity. The present article offers an alternative hermeneutic cast for understanding capitalism as the gainful game that can serve as philosophical orientation in fighting for a free and fair social interplay in which the powers and abilities of free individuals are appropriately and reciprocally estimated and esteemed. This requires, first and foremost, seeing through the fetishisms inherent in the valorization of reified value that the mature Marx identified in his critiques of political economy as the essential nature of capitalism. Such critical insight is necessary for orientation also in today’s predicament of the ever more encroaching and ensnaring cyberworld.

Adorno. Horkheimer. Formação. Estágio Supervised internship and tendency to instrumental reason Abstract The present paper highlights the tendency to instrumental reason as developed by Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, whose criticism to this rationality constitutes an important milestone for understanding the obstacles to human emancipation and freedom. The methodology is based on the dialectical and historical materialism, in order to point elements related to historical-social relations. In this way, it emphasizes peculiarities related to the manifestation of this rationality within the scope of Supervised Internship as one of the curricular components of the Teaching License in Theater at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará. Key-words: Rationality. In the present article, I locate an implicit environmentalism JoãoGuimarães Rosa’s writing from the 1950s and 1960s. This sensibility is easy tomiss, in part because it transposes political debates on damage inflicted in thename of development and progress onto the affective-ethical plane; however, itdoes so in a way that resists sentimentality or projecting a misplaced innocenceonto the non-human world. Focusing on emotional relationships between humansand non-humans, I read “As margens da alegria” and “Os cimos” as expressingan eco-critical discourse that was already latent in Grande sertão: veredas.Recasting the natural world as a site of both unfathomable otherness and relationsof tenderness, Guimarães Rosa presents the emotional hold that nature has onhumans and the cost of cleaving oneself from it—a cost that includes diminishingthe human capacity for delight, wonder, and eros.

The present article analyses critically the paradox of phenomenon claimed by Danish Philosopher Kierkegaard and Marion’s new concept named saturated phenomenon. While the concept of God, by definition, must surpass the realm of empiricism, perhaps the something may shed light over what God must be: Excess. However, Marion developed a new concept of phenomenon that not only occupies the immanence world, but also goes beyond. It is called saturated phenomenon. In order to address the question one might understand the limit of the givenness and then what does it mean saturated givenness. We probably all have had the sense of being overwhelmed by something and this can lead toward a sense of torpor or numbness. In the other hand, Kierkegaard affirms that God is so different than a human being, so totally other that we may think we’re right in demanding God make himself understood and be reasonable towards us. Kierkegaard upholds that we’re always dealing with God in the wrong way. I will argue that Marion, however, following phenomenological footsteps indicates a new path toward how to address God properly. Key words: Paradox; Saturated phenomenon; freedom; Excess.
