Mangrove species, viz., Avicennia officinalis, Avicennia marina var. acutissima, Avicennia marina (dwarf), Rhizophora mucronata, Sonneratia alba, Aegiceras  corniculatum, Kandelia  candel were chosen for measurement of height of the tree and girth or circumference. The sampling was random and at least 50 records were made. The girth is measured by the tape. The measurement of the height is made with the help of abny level. The Tables 1 to 8 records the values for girth, height and canopy cover as well as for correlation coefficient (r). There correlation between girth and canopy in all the species studied however in case of Avicennia officinalis and Aegiceras corniculatum girth and height show more co-relation than girth and C. cover. The positive co-relation observed between girth and canopy is more or less 0.7 except Avicennia marina (dwarf) Excoecaria agallocha and Aegiceras corniculatum. The co-relation is observed in girth and height is difficult to explain. This case is observed in Avicennia officinalis and Aegiceras corniculatum.

  Dữ liệu thành phần hóa học của Bipolaris maydis ít được nghiên cứu. Loài nấm này được phân lập từ Kandelia candel. Ba hợp chất cis-cyclo(L-Val-L-Phe) (1), melithasterol B (2) và chrysophanol (3) đã được phân lập từ sinh khối của loài nấm Bipolaris maydis bằng nhiều phương pháp sắc kí khác nhau. Cấu trúc hóa học của các hợp chất được xác định bằng các phương pháp phổ nghiệm NMR cũng như so sánh với dữ liệu đã công bố. Ba hợp chất trên lần đầu tiên được phân lập từ chi Bipolaris.

A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-motile, non-endospore-forming and rod-shaped actinobacterium, designated strain CMS6Z-2T, was isolated from a surface-sterilized branch of Kandelia candel collected from the Maowei Sea, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, PR China. Strain CMS6Z-2T grew at 10–37 °C (optimum, 37 °C), pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, pH 7.0–8.0) and in the presence of 0–10.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0–1.0 %). Strain CMS6Z-2T possessed meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diamino acid of the peptidoglycan and MK-8 (H4) as the predominant menaquinone. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 0 and C18 : 1  ω9c. The polar lipids comprised diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol and two unknown phospholipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 74.1 mol%. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA genes showed that strain CMS6Z-2T should be assigned to the genus Phycicoccus and its closest relative was Phycicoccus endophyticus IP6SC6T with 98.3 % similarity. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequence and phylogenomic analysis based on core proteomes alignment revealed that strain CMS6Z-2T belonged to the genus Phycicoccus and formed a robust cluster with Phycicoccus endophyticus IP6SC6T within the genus Phycicoccus . The average nucleotide identity value and estimated digital DNA–DNA hybridization value between strain CMS6Z-2T and the type strain of Phycicoccus endophyticus were 81.5 and 23.9 %, respectively. On the basis of phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain CMS6Z-2T represents a novel species of the genus Phycicoccus , for which the name Phycicoccus flavus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CMS6Z-2T (=KCTC 49240T=CGMCC4.7549T).

This paper describes the isolation of an algicidal strain, Stenotrophomonas rhizophila KC1, from mangrove (Kandelia candel), and its genome, which was sequenced using next-generation sequencing technology. The genome is 5.93 Mb with a G+C content of 63.17%. A total of 3,352 functional proteins were assigned according to KEGG categories. A total of 11,586 protein coding genes, 73 tRNA genes, and 17 rRNA genes were obtained. In silico genome annotation protocols identified 83 putative quorum sensing (QS) genes, and the algicidal potential of KC1 was related with the QS genes (for example LuxI-LuxR genes). Collectively, these data suggest that KC1 may be an antialgal bacterium whose behavior can be modulated by QS signaling. The annotated genome sequence of this strain may represent a valuable tool for studying algae–bacteria interactions and developing microbe-based methods for controlling harmful algae.

 Cây Trang rừng ngập mặn đã được chứng minh giàu các hợp chất phenol và flavonoid nên có hoạt tính kháng oxy hóa mạnh. Chính vì vậy, vi nấm nội sinh phân lập từ cây Trang có tiềm năng tạo ra chất kháng oxy hóa có hoạt tính mạnh. Trong nghiên cứu này, chúng tôi phân lập vi nấm nội sinh từ lá và rễ cây Trang, khảo sát một số đặc điểm sinh học cơ bản của chúng và khảo sát hoạt tính kháng oxy hóa của cao ethyl acetate chiết xuất từ 4 chủng vi nấm nội sinh này bằng phương pháp khảo sát năng lực khử và khảo sát hoạt tính ức chế quá trình peroxide hóa lipid. Kết quả thu được 4 chủng vi nấm nội sinh từ lá và rễ cây Trang, được bảo quản trong bộ sưu tập giống của Phòng Thí nghiệm Sinh hóa – Vi sinh, Khoa Sinh học, Trường Đại học Sư phạm Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh với mã số UP-15, UP-16, UP-17, UP-18. Cao ethyl acetate của 4 chủng nấm đều thể hiện năng lực khử. Cao ethyl acetate của chủng UP-15 thể hiện hoạt tính ức chế peroxide hóa lipid với giá trị IC50 396 μg/ml.

A novel, Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-spore-forming, non-motile and irregular rod-shaped bacterium designated Q22T was isolated from the rhizosphere soil of mangrove plant, Kandelia candel collected in Zhangzhou, Fujian province, China. Strain Q22T was able to grow at 10–40 °C (optimum 30 °C), pH 5.5–9.0 (optimum 7.0–8.0) and with 0–5.0% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 1.0 %). The genomic DNA G+C content was 71.9%. The average nucleotide identity, and in silico DNA–DNA hybridization values between strain Q22T and the reference strains were 79.7–88.9% and 22.6–37.4%, respectively. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was MK-12 and the major fatty acids were anteiso-C15:0, iso-C16:0 and anteiso-C17:0. The major polar lipids of strain Q22T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, one glycolipid and three unidentified lipids. The strain Q22T contained 2,4-diaminobutyric acid, alanine acid, glutamic acid and glycine in the peptidoglycans. The phylogenetic analysis and genotypic features, along with the phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, indicate that strain Q22T represents a novel species of the genus Agromyces , for which the name Agromyces kandeliae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Q22T (=MCCC 1K03340T= KCTC 39961T).
