Abstract. The paper is devoted to solving the problem of determining the shape of the rolls of helical rolling mills, depending on the specified profile of the deformation zone. A universal calculation method has been proposed, thanks to which it is possible to determine the shape of the working surface of a roll for all types of helical rolling mills (with mushroom-shaped, cup-shaped, barrel-shaped and disc rolls), any relative arrangement of the rolling axis and rolls axes, and various locations of the deformation zone on the rolling axis. The proposed method is implemented as a standalone exe-application with a simple intuitive interface. The application allows you to output the calculation results into txt-files, which can then be imported into CAD systems to create 3D roll models.

Abstract Cold helical rolling (CHR) is one of the most effective ways to produce small-diameter steel balls. In this study, one kind of work hardening model was established and implemented into Simufact 15.0 to investigate the work hardening phenomenon in the cold forming process. Firstly, based on the helical rolling theory, a set of finite element (FE) simulations was developed. The influence of CHR parameters, including the starting height of convex rib, forming area length, and rolling inclination angle, on the forming process was studied via simulation. Furtherly, the CHR process experiments and FE simulation were carried out , the results showed that the FE simulation was in good agreement with the experimental results, and consistent with the predicted value of the theoretical calculation. Finally, the evolution of effective strain, effective stress, rolling force, work hardening and microstructure during the cold helical rolling of Φ 5.12 mm steel balls was investigated via FE. As result, the evolution trend of hardness was consistent with that of dislocation density, indicating that the model is credible. Besides, the microstructure of the steel ball at different positions further verified this.

The aim of the paper was to investigate the helical rolling parameters (a number of passes) for the microstructural modification and the low-temperature impact toughness improvement of the 09Mn2Si High Strength Low-Alloyed (HSLA) steel. In order to achieve this purpose, work spent to crack initiation and propagation was analyzed and compared with patterns of fracture surfaces. The microstructure and impact toughness values were presented in the temperature range from +20 to –70°C. Also, the fracture mechanisms in individual regions on the fracture surfaces were discussed. In addition, a methodology for computer simulation of the process was developed and implemented within the framework of the excitable cellular automata method and its integration with the kinetic theory of fracture. Finally, a theoretical analysis of the effect of grain shapes and orientations on the strain response patterns of a certain meso-volume simulating the material after the helical rolling was carried out.

The technique of superposition of motions in the space of Lagrange variables is described, which allows us to obtain the equations of combined motion by replacing the Lagrange variables of superimposed (external) motion with Euler variables of nested (internal) motion. The components of velocity and acceleration in the combined motion obtained as a result of differentiating the equations of motion in time coincide with the results of vector addition of the velocities and accelerations of the particles involved in the superimposed motions at each moment of time. Examples of motion and superposition descriptions for absolutely solid and deformable bodies with equations for the main kinematic characteristics of motion, including for robot manipulators with three independent drives, pressing with torsion, bending with tension, and cross– helical rolling, are given. For example, given the fragment of calculation of forces in the kinematic pairs shown the advantages of the description of motion in Lagrangian form for the dynamic analysis of lever mechanisms, allows to determine the required external exposure when performing the energy conservation law at any time in any part of the mechanism.
