Aiming at the defects of traditional full-text retrieval models in dealing with mathematical expressions, which are special objects different from ordinary texts, a multimodal retrieval and ranking method for scientific documents based on hesitant fuzzy sets (HFS) and XLNet is proposed. This method integrates multimodal information, such as mathematical expression images and context text, as keywords to realize the retrieval of scientific documents. In the image modal, the images of mathematical expressions are recognized, and the hesitancy fuzzy set theory is introduced to calculate the hesitancy fuzzy similarity between mathematical query expressions and the mathematical expressions in candidate scientific documents. Meanwhile, in the text mode, XLNet is used to generate word vectors of the mathematical expression context to obtain the similarity between the query text and the mathematical expression context of the candidate scientific documents. Finally, the multimodal evaluation is integrated, and the hesitation fuzzy set is constructed at the document level to obtain the final scores of the scientific documents and corresponding ranked output. The experimental results show that the recall and precision of this method are 0.774 and 0.663 on the NTCIR dataset, respectively, and the average normalized discounted cumulative gain (NDCG) value of the top-10 ranking results is 0.880 on the Chinese scientific document (CSD) dataset.

The paper presents the methods of development and the results of research on the effectiveness of the seq2seq neural network architecture using Visual Attention mechanism to solve the im2latex problem. The essence of the task is to create a neural network capable of converting an image with mathematical expressions into a similar expression in the LaTeX markup language. This problem belongs to the Image Captioning type: the neural network scans the image and, based on the extracted features, generates a description in natural language. The proposed solution uses the seq2seq architecture, which contains the Encoder and Decoder mechanisms, as well as Bahdanau Attention. A series of experiments was conducted on training and measuring the effectiveness of several neural network models.

The article describes the method of calculating the aerodynamic loads of the aircraft, which can be programmed within the graphic user interface. The method uses statistical data of typical aerodynamic profiles flow in wind tunnels and mathematical expressions that describe the known laws of aerohydromechanics. The graphic user interface is tested by a model of the famous Ukrainian aircraft A32 that manufactured by Aeropract company. A surface model of the aircraft for modeling consists of the theoretical surface for the wing and the fuselage. A comparison of the formula’s calculation in the graphical interface and finite element calculations is given. The software interface is built in C #.

Word problems are still one of the causes of students' difficulties in learning mathematics. The four stages of problem solving suggested by Polya are: (1) understanding the problem, (2) planning a strategy, (3) implementing the strategy, and (4) checking and interpreting the results. One of the strategies to solve word problems that can be applied is by making diagram. The bar diagram model is a form of visual representation that can help students to solve word problems. The use of bar diagram in solving word problems can be a strategy for students to bridge the transition from understanding problems and making mathematical expressions. The process of creating a bar diagram model represents a visualization of known and unknown information and helps to identify how this information can be used to solve the problems. This paper discusses problem solving stages using bar diagram to solve word problems.

ABSTRACTEnzyme behaviour is typically characterised in the laboratory using very diluted solutions of enzyme. However, in vivo processes usually occur at [ST] ≈ [ET] ≈ Km. Furthermore, the study of enzyme action usually involves analysis and characterisation of inhibitors and their mechanisms. However, to date, there have been no reports proposing mathematical expressions that can be used to describe enzyme activity at high enzyme concentration apart from the simplest single substrate, irreversible case. Using a continued fraction approach, equations can be easily derived to apply to the most common cases in monosubstrate reactions, such as irreversible or reversible reactions and small molecule (inhibitor or activator) kinetic interactions. These expressions are simple and can be understood as an extension of the classical Michaelis-Menten equations. A first analysis of these expressions permits to deduce some differences at high vs low enzyme concentration, such as the greater effectiveness of allosteric inhibitors compared to catalytic ones. Also, they can be used to understand catalyst saturation in a reaction. Although they can be linearised following classical approaches, these equations also show some differences that need to be taken into account. The most important one may be the different meaning of line intersection points in Dixon plots. All in all, these expressions may be useful tools for the translation in vivo of in vitro experimental data or for modelling in vivo and biotechnological processes.

The utility of convergent/divergent channel driven flow to improve the effectiveness of heat transport rate in industrial and engineering systems is diverse. This motivates us to disclose hybrid nanofluid flow features through non-parallel walls under hydro-magnetic aspect. The modified Darcian (Darcy–Forchheimer) expression is utilized for formulation. Reflection of improved Darcian form modifies the expression of velocity via square of velocity term. The effects of temperature jump and viscous dissipation are implemented in energy expression. Additionally, the slip flow phenomenon under the stretching/shrinking characteristics is studied. The analysis is carried out under the theory of boundary layer. Significant variables are implemented to acquire the dimensionless mathematical expressions. Dimensionless problem is tackled through a well-known homotopy technique. To observe the upshots of numerous pertinent parameters upon non-dimensional profiles of velocity and temperature, the graphs are plotted for both convergent/divergent channels. The heat transfer rate as well as drag force is also analyzed. In this study, it is concluded that temperature field rises in both divergent/convergent channels for dominant thermal slip parameter. Moreover, inertia parameter effects are seen weaker in converging channel for the velocity profile, while opposite trend is observed for diverging channel.

The assessment of the technical condition of the vessel's hull is carried out using diagnostic sensors. They are used to measure, for example, the thickness of the skin, the parameters of camber, dents, corrugations. These processes are time-consuming and quite complex. The problem of automation of such operations is the retention of measuring equipment on the curved surface of the hull of the vessel and the movement of equipment along it. One of the solutions to the problem is the use of movable trolleys with magnetic devices installed on them. In this paper, the issues of the influence of the curvature of the hull covering on the parameters of the mobile magnetic system are investigated. Calculation schemes for various layouts, physical and mathematical models are presented. The analysis of the obtained mathematical expressions allowed us to draw conclusions on the placement options, on the gap and the speed of its change, the clearance of the transport device, the angle between the support surface and the end plane of the magnet, which leads to a decrease in the force of attraction. The initial gap is taken into account. Calculations of the dependences of changes in the radius of curvature of the hull of the vessel on the track and the design scheme of mobile devices are carried out.

The paper presents a new method for determining the machine-hand welding times of synthetic polymer materials using ultrasonic welding machines with rotary sonotrode. The method is based on the claims and observations of W. Möller intended for the clothing industry in the 1990s, according to which there is a spontaneous drop in sewing speed when strongly curved seams are joined, which is due to the possibility of human reactions. The method for determining machine-hand sewing times of curved seams was well accepted in garment production processes. It is used to standardize production time. Using ultrasonic welding machines with rotary sonotrode, the problem of determining the time of ultrasonic joining of curved seams on clothing or technical textiles remained unsolved. That is why is completely new and original model was created, which combines eight technical parameters of ultrasonic welds, eight technological parameters of the production process and seven ergonomic parameters depending on the psychophysical conditions of the workers. The systematic development of the mathematical relationship of all 23 parameters mentioned and the corresponding mathematical expressions for determining and calculating these parameters are presented. These results were also verified by experimental measurements, which show a favourable correlation between the calculated and measured machine hand times. The relationships between the recommended welding speeds, the critical radii of curvature and the number of reactions required according to Möller and the new model are also presented. An analysis of the success in the application of Möller’s and the new model was also performed.
