Abstract Beach seine fishing gear is still widely used by Acehnese fishermen. Scientific information on the composition of the catch of beach seine in Lamnga and Ruyung waters is not yet available. This study aims to determine the composition of beach seine in Lamnga Village and Ruyung waters. Data collection is carried out by following the operation of the beach seine unit with ten days of data collection at each station. The research data were in the form of type and weight of fish caught and analyzed descriptively. The results of the measurement of the fishing gear of the beach seine obtained that the fishing gear at station I was smaller than station II. Analysis of the composition of the catch of beach seine at station 1 obtained 38 species consisting of 43,447 fish, which was dominated by shortfin scads fish of 529.98 kg. While at station II, 32 species were obtained with a total of 17,511 fish, which was dominated by shortfin scads fish of 648.90 kg. The results of the analysis showed that the catches of beach seine at station I were higher both in terms of the number of species and catch weights compared to station II.

: Seagrasses provide important nursery grounds, shelter and natural habitats for juvenile fish. In this study, we evaluated if artificially created seagrass areas can play the same role as the natural seagrass (NS) habitats. The study was carried out in three different stations on the coast of Yumurtalık, Adana, selected according to the seagrass areas. Artificial seagrass (AS) was made of polypropylene ribbon and fixed on the ground in the designated areas with a depth of 0.5 m on average. Sampling was carried out with a beach seine net once a week at stations between 28 April 2016 and 11 August 2016. Sampled fish were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level. Based on our results, the fish abundance and species richness of NS and AS habitats were not statistically different, whereas the both parameters were significantly lower in sandy (S) habitats (p<0.001). Moreover, the species composition of NS and AS habitats was found to be similar each other, whereas the composition was significantly different in S habitats. This study, conducted in the Northeast Mediterranean, shows that AS habitats effect the distribution of juvenile fish.

This study was undertaken to assess the length-weight relationship, condition factor and age structure, of the Nile carp, Labeo niloticus, in Khashm El-Girba reservoir and Atbara River, Sudan, from December 2015 to November 2016. Samples of fish were collected bi-monthly from three locations, namely; Um Aswad (Atbara River), El-Remila and El-Monaba (Khashm El-Girba reservoir), using beach seine nets of 1.2, 4.0 and 7.0 cm stretched mesh. Out of a total number of 1,190 specimens of L. niloticus collected from the three sampling sites, 189 specimens were randomly selected to determine age. The relationship between length and weight indicated negative allometric growth pattern in all three locations, where the slope (b) of the (LWR) was highly significant (p<0.001) and ranged from 2.178 to 2.885. The mean condition factor (K) varied monthly in the three locations with values ranging from 1.671 in Um Aswad (Atbara River) to 2.548 in El-Monaba (reservoir). Although the age of L. niloticus ranged from 0+ and 3+ years, yet, most of the studied fish are between age 0 + and 1+.

Menticirrhus americanus were sampled (n = 393) from two beaches (P1 is an estuarine beach near the mouth of the Paranaguá Estuarine Complex, and P2 is a beach adjacent to the Paranaguá Estuarine Complex) in the subtropical region of the western South Atlantic waters between August 2015 and June 2016. This study aimed to identify the spawning season and the age structure for M. americanus using two sampling methods. For sampling at the P1 beach, seine, line, and pole were used, while samples from the P2 beach were obtained from the artisanal fishers. Females were numerically dominant in all sampling months at both sites except for February when the males became dominant. The species exhibited a protected reproductive season with multiple spawning peaks between August and December. Males and females were captured at all gonadal development stages and ages between 1 and 6 from both sites. At first maturity, the length of the females was 16.3 cm, and the mean age at first maturity was 1.3 years. Individuals aged between 1 and 3 years were dominant (68%). The results suggested that young and adults of the M. americanus use the same habitats throughout their ontogeny.

AbstractWe performed a preliminary evaluation of a mobile sampling platform with adjustable push net and live box (Platform) against two common methods for sampling small-bodied fish (i.e., 10–100 mm) in two distinct lentic habitats. Nearshore (NS) littoral habitat was sampled by Platform and beach seine, and open water (OW) pelagic habitat by Platform and Kodiak trawl. Our goal was to evaluate the Platform’s ability to describe fish assemblage structure across habitat types in contrast to common techniques restricted to single habitat types that are less comparable due to gear-specific bias. Platform sample speed had a significant positive effect on recapture efficiency of both nearly neutrally buoyant objects and marked fish. Marked fish recapture efficiencies were similar for Platform in NS and OW, indicating similar efficiency across habitat types. Platform capture efficiency was similar to beach seine and greater than Kodiak trawl. With similar sampling time, the Platform collected more individuals and taxa in NS relative to beach seine and in OW relative to Kodiak trawl. Greater taxa detection by the Platform suggests that it may be effective at detecting species that are numerically rare in specific habitats when compared to these methods. Fish CPUE was significantly greater NS regardless of technique. However, by using the Platform, there is greater confidence that this difference was reliable and not a gear selectivity artifact. Overall, this preliminary study demonstrates the Platform’s potential to collect standardized data across NS and OW habitats, track ontogenetic habitat shifts, and detect differences in small-bodied fish taxa richness, relative abundance, and density between NS and OW habitats. Continued experimentation beyond a single reservoir and fish size range is required before consensus can be established regarding the utility of this new push net design.

The incidence of the Covid-19 pandemic indirectly affects the decline in the activity of the processing industry and fish consumption by the community. In the short term, there is also a decline in fish prices. This study examines whether the decline in economic activity in the fisheries sector causes changes in the performance of small-scale fisheries, both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic in Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. The target of the research object is fishers who use trolling lines, handline, and beach seine. The analytical method used is Exponential Comparison Method. The results showed that capture fisheries belonging to SSF, which had high performance before covid-19, were fishing gear, and the lowest performance was Surrounding net. On the other hand, the surrounding net has a higher performance during the pandemic than the other three fishing gears, and the lowest is Trolling lines. However, there has been a significant decline in prices and market affordability, the economic contribution of small-scale fishing businesses from before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, a policy to open up an export-oriented fish catch market and a wider market reach is required.

This study attempts to identify the effects differences in the hues lamp oil-based lamps given to successful operations fish bait by the use of a get the beach ( seine seane ) on the gulf of ambon part in north conducted on 20 Oktober  to 25 December 2018, the data was undertaken at night from pm 20.00 wit to 05.00 wit closer to waiheru coastal village ( i station ), coastal village and hunut station ( ii ) in as many as 10 times using two units of a get the beach ( seine seane ) and two a light color, treatment color the each green orens design and color on the random group ( RAK ). Remedial than 10 times there are three kinds of fish baited with the details are as follows: fish tatari ( rastrelliger spp ) 5927 the tail ( 44 % ) , heavy 10,42 kg ( 47 % ) , fish puri ( encrasicholine heteroloba ) the number of 6419 the tail ( 48 % ) , heavy 8,01 kg at 42 % and fish make ( sardinella sp ) the number of 1013 the tail ( 8 % ) , heavy 1,57 kg ( 11 % ) .With a total of the fish 13.395 a tail with heavy 20 kg with details of the fish a fish bait treatment with the greatest percentage in a lamp shade the color of orans namely 7745 a tail with heavy 9.99 kg and then treatment a lamp shade of a green color to the total number of 5614 a tail with heavy 9,98 kg .The results of the analysis of the results of the diversity of types of catch a fish bait , show that the two a light shade of have a which do not exhibit a significant difference or both the color of the light dicobakan the same - alike will be good for use in an effort to arrest a kind of small pelagic fish especially the types of a fish bait.  Keyword : The light of a lamp , the catch, the gulf of ambon part in
