Lactose is a commonly used component of pharmaceutical medications in tablet form. It was previously shown that lactose changes conformationally after saturation in fluidized beds with active pharmaceutical ingredients obtained by repeated dilution of antibodies to interferon-gamma in combination with an external intensive vibration treatment. Moreover, it was revealed that these solutions are self-organized dispersed systems in which nano-objects are formed. Their biological activity and mechanism of action were previously established as well. The current work was dedicated to investigating the optical properties of fluidized lactose powders in the terahertz frequency range. Spectral analyses of powders of crystalline lactose saturated in fluidized beds with a diluted solution of either glycine buffer, antibodies to interferon-gamma, or water were carried out, intact lactose served as a control. All powders were tableted before testing. In the course of the study, the macroscopic parameters of the tablets were established, at which they had a stable shape and their THz optical properties had no parasitic diffraction losses. These tablets were analyzed using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy in the frequency range of 0.2–2.6 THz. The differentiation between the spectra was conducted using a principal component analysis. The differences between intact lactose and the lactose saturated with any of studied solutions were demonstrated. Additionally, lactose saturated with solutions of multiple dilutions of a substance (antibodies or glycine buffer) differed not only from intact lactose, but also from lactose saturated with a diluted solution of water. Moreover, discrimination of lactose formulations saturated with different substances (antibodies or glycine buffer) was also possible. Additionally, intact lactose differed from lactose saturated with diluted water. The methods reported could be useful for the quality control of the medications based on the technology of repeated dilution of an original substance.

AbstractIn this paper we describe the properties of the crystal of guanylurea hydrogen phosphate (NH$$_2$$ 2 )$$_2$$ 2 CNHCO(NH$$_2$$ 2 )H$$_2$$ 2 PO$$_3$$ 3 (GUHP) and propose its application in terahertz photonics and optoelectronics. GUHP crystal has a wide window of transparency and a high optical threshold in the visible and NIR spectral regions and narrow absorption bands in the terahertz frequency range. The spectral characteristics of absorption and refraction in the THz range were found to be strongly dependent on crystal temperature and orientation. Computer simulations made it possible to link the nature of the resonant response of the medium at THz frequencies with the molecular structure of the crystal, in particular, with intermolecular hydrogen bonds and the layered structure of the lattice. The possibility of application of the crystal under study for the conversion of femtosecond laser radiation from visible an NIR to terahertz range was demonstrated. It was shown that dispersion properties of the crystal allow the generation of narrow band terahertz radiation, whose spectral properties are determined by conditions close to phase matching. The properties of the generated terahertz radiation under various temperatures suggest the possibility of phonon mechanism of enhancement for nonlinear susceptibility of the second order.

Abstract If the group velocity of the wave is close to the bunch velocity, the bunch placed in the maximumum of the radiated pulse. It provides high effeciency of the electron-wave interaction. However, there are other factors related to particle dynamics, which have strong influence on the radiation process. In this paper the regime with three resonance frequencies is discussed. By varying the phase size of the electron bunch, the generation conditions at each of the frequencies can be changed. There are results for the spontaneous coherent super-radiative undulator emission in the terahertz frequency range from a short (as compared to the wavelength of the radiated wave) dense electron bunch. As a result, an electron bunch radiates two pulses with amplitudes of the radiated fields ∼ 10-70 MV/m.

Abstract There are results for the spontaneous coherent super-radiative undulator emission in the terahertz frequency range from a short (as compared to the wavelength of the radiated wave) dense electron bunch. If the group velocity of the wave is close to the bunch velocity, this is a process of spontaneous radiation followed by amplification of a single wave cycle. Despite the Coulomb repulsion of electrons inside the bunch, its compactness is provided by the compression of the bunch under the action of its own radiation fields. As a result, formation of an ultra-short (several cycles long) powerful wave packet occurs when the bunch moves through several undulator periods with high (∼20% in optimized systems) efficiency of extraction of the electron energy and high intensity (∼ 100 MV/m) of the peak wave field.
