Gandhi and His Vision for Women Empowerment

Today the empowerment of women has become one of the most important concerns of 21st century. But practically women empowerment is still an illusion of reality. We observe in our day to day life how women become victimized by various social evils. Undoubtedly the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi experimented in this field a century ago and he had shown the way for the empowerment of women and the development of the status of women. Gandhi was of the opinion that until and unless women, on the basic of education and knowledge do not find their proper place in social and economic fields, they could not achieve self-respect for themselves. Nor they could become self-dependent in any of the walks of life. In his lifetime Gandhi inspired Indians to take concrete and practical initiatives regarding women education which will bring them out of these centuries’ old conservative customs and rules, which were responsible for their mental and social slavery.

BOOKS FROM THE SERGE LIFAR’S COLLECTION IN THE FUND OF THE VERNADSKY NATIONAL LIBRARY OF UKRAINE

The publication presents information about rarities from the collection of prominent Ukrainian and French artist, collector and bibliophile Serge Lifar (1905–1986) in the fund of the Department of early printed and rare books of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (VNLU). Dancer, choreographer, artist S. Lifar has been collecting personal documents, posters, cultural objects, books, various souvenirs, etc. for decades. He wanted to donate items from his personal collection as a gift to his hometown of Kyiv. In the 1990s and 2000s, parts of his collections and personal belongings were transferred to several Kyiv institutions. Rarities from his book collection came to the VNLU as part of the collection of Baron Eduard Falz-Fein, who bought part of his library at auction in Monte Carlo and donated it to the VNLU in 1981. S. Lifar’s books in the collection of E. Falz-Fein are singled out with the help of his proprietary marks: signets, paper stickers, autographs, gift inscriptions, etc. They date from the 17th – early 20th c. Among them predominate Russian-language editions of the 18th‑19th c. Widely represented editions of works by Russian and Ukrainian writers: O. Pushkin, V. Zhukovsky, A. Fet, M. Lermontov, I. Krylov, G. Derzhavin, M. Gogol, P. Kulish, and others. S. Lifar also collected various artistic lithographic albums, large-format editions with portraits, drawings, maps, etc. Essays on Russian imperial history, geography, descriptions of places, and collections of decrees are also contained in the collection. The church theme is represented by several copies of old prints in different languages and fonts. Cyrillic liturgical editions are also available in the collection. Several editions of the Bible in Old Slavonic and Dutch occupy a proper place in the collection. The publication presents the features of individual copies of the collection. It is concluded that the book collection of S. Lifar is able to inform the inquisitive reader about new facets of the personality of its former owner. Scattered across various institutions and even countries, it is still waiting for its researchers. The information is supplemented by a list with a brief descriptions and current shelf numbers.

Reliance and Confinement: Washington Allston’s Dual Attitudes Towards European Ideals in His Paintings

The paper examines the dual attitudes reflected in the artistic work of Washington Allston. Born in 1779 and died in 1843, Allston is a famous American painter and poet whose artworks are greatly shaped by European philosophical concepts and artistic traditions. Allston's inheritance of such traditions could be mainly reflected by the deliberate representation of the concept of sublimity and divinity in his artistic creation. This could be readily seen from Allston’s artistic techniques, by which he better instills his aesthetics into his religious paintings while arousing greater empathy among the audience. However, against the background of American Romanticism, Allston was faced with the conflict between conforming to the European aesthetic standards in terms of “general air” and tradition, and the dramatic departure of objects from their “proper place”. As a result, Allston resorted to the institutional liberation, thus forming his distinct artistic style with an evident feature of dual attitudes.

Prosthetic Management of Segmentally Resected Mandible and Partial Glossectomy: A Case Report

The balance and symmetry of mandibular function gets destroyed by the loss of continuity of the mandible, which deviates the residual fragment towards the resected side thereby altering the mandibular movements. Physical therapy in combination with prosthodontic treatment can be used to reduce the mandibular deviation and hence it improves the masticatory efficiency. Many prosthetic methods are discovered to minimize deviation and provide masticatory efficiency. Some of these methods are mandibular guide flange prosthesis, implant supported prosthesis and palatal guidance restoration. Contact of Tongue with palate is important for the production of normal speech, also the proper place of the tongue during certain sounds is important. In partial glossectomy conditions, tongue to palate articulation gets affected during speech and patient faces difficulty to pronounce certain sounds. For the rehabilitation of such patient thorough knowledge of the production of different sounds can be useful for diagnosis and treatment planning.

When it’s “now or never”

Individuals who share knowledge of past events may encounter different practical problems when engaging in the co-telling of those events. Drawing upon conversation analysis, this article investigates how co-tellers manage interpolated opportunities to initiate other-repair in collaborative storytelling. The analysis focuses on the placement of different repair operations on the story-in-progress and shows that co-tellers monitor the progressivity of the storytelling activity to identify proper places to initiate repair. Repairs that are initiated out of place can be oriented to as inappropriate and require more interactional work from participants. When tellers project the continuation of the story beyond a proper place, co-tellers display urgency for halting the story’s current trajectory, which shows their orientation to this moment as a last opportunity to initiate repair. This last possible point to repair the story-in-progress is what I call a “now or never” moment. Data stem from video-recorded collaboratively told stories in Spanish.

Persepsi Mahasiswa Akuntansi Terhadap Independensi Akuntan Publik: Studi Empirik pada Mahasiswa Akuntansi di Bandung

This study aims to determine the perceptions of accounting students towards the independence of public accountants in the city of Bandung. Positive perceptions indicate that the accounting profession, especially public accountants, has a proper place in accounting students. Through a questionnaire distributed with a sample of accounting students in the city of Bandung, with a target sample size of 60 students. From 137 respondents gathered, it can be seen based on the results of the analysis that students majoring in accounting in Bandung perceive that public accountants in Indonesia are not independent. In addition, the results of this study are expected to be inference for accounting students in Indonesia. The results of this study also show that there are differences in the perceptions of students majoring in accounting in Bandung who have never and who have taken auditing courses on the independence of public accountants in Indonesia. Access and Use of Digital Technologies in Early Childhood: A Review of Mixed Messages in Popular Media

This paper reports on an analysis of 60 print and online articles collected in a metropolitan area in Canada that describe children’s digital engagement through a focus on ‘early literacy’ or ‘digital literacy’. Findings reveal mixed messages about children’s use of digital technology that create competing frames for adults supporting (or not) young children’s digital literacy practices. Digital technology was often characterized as something to limit/control, except in school, where digital literacy was characterized as holding a proper place when controlled by educators. Consistent across media messaging was the promotion of traditional, print-based texts as an essential early literacy practice.

Kant and the Law of War

The past two decades have seen renewed scholarly and popular interest in the law and morality of war. Positions that originated in the late Middle Ages through the seventeenth century have received more sophisticated philosophical elaboration. Although many contemporary writers draw on ideas that figure prominently in Kant’s moral philosophy, his explicit discussions of war have not been brought into their proper place within these discussions and debates. Kant argues that a special morality governs the permissible use of force because of war’s distinctive immorality. He characterizes war as barbaric, because in war, might makes right—which side prevails does not depend on who is in the right. The very thing that makes war wrongful also provides the appropriate standard for evaluating the conduct of war, and the only basis for law governing war.

Gamification Design for Waste Problems in Public Space Case Study: Gajah Tunggal Park, Tangerang

Waste is a problem that is always faced in every major city in Indonesia. Tangerang is one of the big cities in Indonesia that also faces problems with garbage. Even though every public space in Tangerang has provided trash bins, the level of community participation in disposing of garbage in its place is still low. To increase community participation, gamification can be used. However, before the gamification is designed, it has to first know the intrinsic motivation of people wanting to dispose of garbage in its proper place so that the gamification design is effective.

DIAGNOSIS OF RICE SEED SECTOR IN COTE DIVOIRE: ASSETS, WEAKNESSES AND STRATEGYFOR ASUSTAINABLE MULTIPLICATION, AND DISSEMINATION OF QUALITY SEEDS

In Cote dIvoire, less than 10% of rice-growing areas are covered by improved varieties seeds of good quality.A diagnosis of the seed sector was carried out to highlight its main constraints and propose a strategy for the sustainable production and dissemination of seeds.The schedule of fixturesindicates that the seed issue is taken into account by policies, strategies and regulations specific to the seed sector and the agricultural sector as a whole.Unfortunately, in its implementation, these seed policies and strategies do not take up their proper place to ensure increased agricultural productivity.Seed production is based on formal and informal seed systems.In the formal system the supply ofquality seeds is negligible. The main constraints of this system coversall links in the value chain. To improve farmers access to seeds of good quality, a strategy that is fully aligned with regional strategies, and especially the revised national rice development strategy, which takes into account the period from 2020 to 2030, has been proposed. The goal of this strategy is to increase the rate ofthe use of seed of improved varieties seedsup to 70% by 2030. This strategy promotes the professionalisation and empowerment of private sector.Its implementation should involve all stakeholders in the countrys seed value chain.
