This chapter provides a brief overview of stroke, aphasia, and aphasia assessment. Additionally, it considers various issues associated with the standardized assessment of aphasia, including problems related to cultural and linguistic biases. The chapter also includes information on working with people who are bilingual, as well as working with interpreters. A hypothetical case study is presented as a teaching avenue to discuss these topics in greater length. This section contains details regarding how both cultural and linguistic barriers associated with the assessment of the patient's aphasia may have influenced the intervention provided by the speech-language pathologist (SLP). Medical terminology and procedures related to stroke intervention are also discussed as it relates to the SLP's plan of care.

The growing aging population raises important implications for legal and clinical systems, including testamentary capacity (TC) assessment. Yet, there are limited comprehensive and standardized assessment measures for TC readily available for clinical use. A review of current assessment methods and standardized approaches for TC assessment is provided. Although several guidelines regarding TC assessment have been proposed in prior literature, existing standardized approaches do not appear to meet full criteria for TC. A comprehensive approach to assessment of testamentary capacity is proposed.

In the field of neurodevelopmental disorders, the use of a standardized assessment test - TEC I - has proven the complex emotional variability of each individual validating and expanding the theoretical psycho-affective assumptions (drawn from direct observation of subjects with typical development) in children belonging to different nosographic categories. The data obtained through singular and comparative analysis of the subjects not only promote new insights into the influence of the emotional sphere in the construction of personality and learning of typical and atypical growing children, but suggest the emergence of new rehabilitation procedures and therapeutic objectives to be achieved and undertaken
