Ecological politics rely solely on economic interest. Development and the environment have a complicated correlation. The industrial plantation forest policy aims to ensure that the economic benefit goes hand in hand with the sustainability demand. Ironically, this policy triggers a conflict between local communities and corporations as the holder of forest concession rights. The concession is practically established due to merely economic interest aligned with the extractive industry of tobacco in Lombok. The plantation is aimed as the supporting source for the tobacco industry since it requires specific woods to roast the tobacco. The study refers to utilizes instrumental state theory and deep ecology perspective to identify how the policy was made for the capital and tobacco capital benefits, while the sustainability objective is left behind. The study shows not only how the concession sparked ironic economic development, but also how the liberal environmentalism approach in industrial forest plantation policy has failed to gain its objective. The economic potential of tobacco in Lombok is the main determinant in industrial forest plantation policy that changes community forests into private forests. In the end, the policy was strategically implemented to sustain production and strengthen corporation monopoly over forests.

Abstract. Prastyaningsih SR, Hardiwinoto S, Musyafa, Koranto CAD. 2020. Diversity of termites (Isoptera) on industrial forest plantation of Eucalyptus pellita stands of tropical ecosystem in Riau, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 5498-5505. Eucalyptus pellita is an alternative tree species for pulp and paper of industrial forest plantation. One of the forest plantation’s negative effect is the loss of biodiversity and vulnerable to pest and disease. Termites are one of the pests attacking the forest plantations and play an important role in the ecological process. Need a better understanding of the termite role ecosystem process in E. pellita stands. This research aimed to determine the diversity of termite species found in E. pellita stands at different rotation and ages of stands. Termite diversity sampled by the transect sampling method in the 4th and 5th rotation with four-level ages (1, 2, 3, 4-years-old). The transect area was divided into 24 plots (100 m x 2 m). The termites in the Eucalyptus stand consist of two families (Termitidae and Rhinotermitidae), five subfamilies (Termitinae, Macrotermitinae, Nasutitermitinae, Rhinotermitinae, and Coptotermitinae), and eight species (Discupiditermes nemorosus, Macrotermes gilvus, Termes rostatus, Amitermes dentatus, Microcerotermes sp., Nasutitermes matangensis, Schedorhinotermes medioobscurus, and Coptotermes havilandi). The diversity index (H) in the 4th rotation was 1.95, while in the 5th rotation was 1.63, with a similarity in the Sorensen Index of 87.71%. The existence of termites is dominated by the wood feeder group. The species richness of the termites at the two rotations increased with the increase of the stand age.. The relative abundance composition of termites in the 5th rotation, is higher than the 4th rotation. Termite occurrence was influenced by necromass, tree biomass, humidity, and temperature.

Forest plantations have a large potential for carbon sequestration, playing an important role in the global carbon cycle. However, despite the huge amount of research carried out worldwide, the absolute contribution of industrial forest plantations is still incomplete for some parts of the world. To contribute to bridge this gap, we calculated the amount of C stock in three fast growing forest species in Chile. Relevant C pools (above-ground and below-ground biomass, forest floor, and soil) were considered for this analysis. Across the industrial plantation forests of Chile, carbon accumulated in the above-ground biomass was 181–212 Mg · ha−1 for Pinus radiata, 147–180 Mg · ha−1 for Eucalyptus nitens, and 95–117 Mg · ha−1 for Eucalyptus globulus (age 20–24 years for P.radiata and 10–14 years for Eucalyptus). Our results agree with other studies showing that 30%–50% of the total C stock is stored in the soil. Total C stocks were for 343 Mg · ha−1 for P.radiata, 352 Mg · ha−1 for E.nitens, and 254 Mg · ha−1 for E. gloubulus, also at the end of a typical rotation. The carbon pool in the forest floor was found to be significantly lower (less than 4% of the total) when compared to the other pools and showed large spatial variability. We conclude that industrial forest plantations are a valuable tool to reduce atmospheric CO2 and mitigate climate change. Given the contribution of soils to total carbon stocks, special attention should be paid to forest management activities that affect the soil organic carbon pool.

Acacia mangium is one of popular plantion in industrial forest of Indonesia. Perum Perhutani is one of state owned enterprise in Indonesia was also manage Acacia mangium in KPH Bogor. Forest management is always related to investment made by the company, so it was necessesary to analysist of business.  Financial analysis is the process of evaluating business to determine their performence and suitability. Typically, financial analyze is used to analyze whether an entity is stable to warrant  investment. The method used in this study is financial analysist based on Acacia mangium forest product. This study is conducted to find out whether KPH Bogor has good financial condition or not. The results of the study showed that KPH Bogor has good financial condition, feasible in running business, and provided benefits to the company. The NPV, BCR, IRR values are IDR 377.690.545, 3,96 and 25,02% respectively.  KPH Bogor also capable survive if there decreasing of production volume with 5%, 10% and 15% respectively.

In 2009 the Goverment of Indonesia through the National Development Planning Agency has launched a Sectoral Climate Road Map, where the forestry sector relies on the development of industrial forest plantations (HTI) and forest management units (KPH) with the most efficient consideration of the cost budget and the effectiveness of technical feasibility for sustainability. The policy of HTI development by the Indonesian government furthermore has the opportunity to contribute to climate change mitigation through the REDD + scheme. This study aims to develop the strategies of  industrial forest plantation management for REDD + schemes. This study analyzed internal factors that become strengths and weaknesses as well as external factors that become opportunities and threats using SWOT analysis to develop the strategies. The management of HTI in case of  industrial forest plantation company PT. Finnantara Intiga (FI) was defined as an internal environment, while the external environment covers the entire environment related to HTI and REDD+. The results of the research showed that, the strength score is 1,817 and weakness is 1,186, so the difference is 0,631 (positive), as well as the element of opportunity is greater than the threat. The positive difference values both strength and opportunity indicate the priority strategies that will be used by PT. Finnantara Intiga in the REDD + scheme is an aggressive strategy (SO strategy)by using all the strengths and utilizing the opportunities. Keywords : Industrial forest plantation, REDD+, SWOT Analysis
