E. Rungb (Deut. Med. Woch., 1922, No. 5) fundamentally recommends, in case of any more significant blood loss in women in labor, to collect blood flowing from the genital canal into a clean vessel and keep it.

As we have already informed our readers, it is accepted by many of modern German gynecologists as a rule to infuse blood poured into the abdominal cavity, at the termination of ectopic pregnancy, into the circulatory system, adding to it, to avoid coagulation, a solution of natrii citrici. In the evaluation of this technique, however, not all authors are in agreement: while some consider it, in severe acute anemia, directly lifesaving, others point out its danger.

Abstract Background Scalp arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are a rare vascular disease usually presenting as a progressively increasing pulsating mass in the scalp. These lesions can be associated with mild to severe complications, including congestive heart failure. If ruptures, this pathology constitutes a life-threatening medical emergency because of its potential to cause severe bleeding and acute anemia. Methods We describe the case of a young woman with a ruptured Yokouchi type C scalp AVF with eyelid involvement. Results The patient presented with hypovolemic shock and acute anemia due to severe bleeding from the lesion. Emergent treatment through a combined endovascular and open surgical approach was required to stop bleeding and stabilize the patient. Conclusions Emergent and effective treatment is required to stop bleeding when a scalp AVF ruptures. A combination of endovascular embolization and microsurgical excision of the shunt is a treatment option.

AbstractFoot electrical stimulation (FES) has been considered as a classic stressor that can disturb homeostasis. Acute anemia was observed in the model induced by FES. The aim of this study was to explore the role of inflammatory cytokines underlying the acute anemia and gastrointestinal (GI) mucosal injury in the FES. Twenty-four male Kunming mice (20 ± 2 g) were randomly divided into control group and experimental group. The mice were placed in a footshock chamber that can generate 0.5 mA electrical impulse periodically for 0.5 h. After the process, red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit, the levels of corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) in serum and hypothalamus, and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in serum and pituitary were detected separately. In addition, we investigated the expressions of inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α, iNOS, and IL-10) in the hypothalamus and duodenum by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Results showed that this FES model induced anemia, increased CRH and ACTH activity in the serum after the FES. Moreover, the expressions of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and iNOS were significantly increased following the process, while IL-10 was not activated. These findings suggest that anemia, the inflammatory cytokines in the hypothalamus and duodenum of the mice in the model induced by FES is closely related to GI mucosal injury/bleeding. Taken together, these results underscore the importance of anemia, GI mucosal injury/bleeding and stress, future studies would be needed to translate these findings into the benefit of affected patients.

In acute anemia, as it is most often observed by obstetricians, the use of a solution of table salt is usually more likely than any other means, like camphor, coffee, warming, autotransfusion, can restore the patient's strength. The easiest way is to inject the solution under the skin; but it is very painful, absorption is often very slow, and the amount of fluid that can be administered is usually insignificant.

1) In 35-year-olds, multiparous, with the correct pelvis, the transverse position of the fetus, the prolapse of the handle and umbilical cord were recognized. During anesthesia and disinfection of the genital parts, a left-sided rupture of the uterus and an upper cut of the vagina was detected, with the exit of the fetal head into the abdominal cavity. Turning and ejecting the child (2600 grm., 48 cm) in asphyxiation, soon revived. After removing it is easy. The gap is tamped. The phenomena of internal bleeding with all the manifestations of acute anemia were soon discovered. Charevosuchenie. There was a large hematoma in the left broad ligament; there is no continuing bleeding. The abdominal wound was sutured. The patient recovered.

On February 5 of this year, I was invited by Mr. doctors S.O. Mankovsky and N.A. Skvortsov for advice on one case of extrauterine pregnancy. The day before, that is, on February 4, the patient, the officer's wife, Mrs. X., had internal bleeding, after which she developed acute anemia with loss of pulse and fainting. Thanks to the adopted by Mr. Doctors marry, the patient's pulse appeared and at 3 o'clock in the morning he kept at the known altitude from 120-130 to 1 m. I saw the patient at about 1 pm. She was anemic, the outer covers had a yellowish tint, the visible mucous membrane was almost blessing in color, the pulse was extremely weak filling, about 130 in 1 m. The abdomen was very swollen, painful when touched. With internal examination, the posterior fornix is somewhat tense, the uterus is sluggish, open. From its cavity, blood is exuded in small patches of tissue similar to decidua. The patient in consciousness, complains of a feeling of embarrassment in the chest, nausea and thirst.

The first case concerns a 24-year-old patient who was admitted to the Jewish Odessa hospital on June 8, 1893, in a state of severe acute anemia: cold extremities, cyanosis of the lips, intense deep breathing, deathly pallor, cold sweat on the forehead, barely noticeable, threadlike pulse, but at times completely disappearing, semi-unconscious, dilated pupils.
