Review of psychological data of how children engage in imaginary friend play (IFP) shows that it involves a lot of explicit embodied action and interaction with surrounding people and environments. However, IFP is still seen as principally an individualistic activity, where, in addition to those interactions, the actor has to mentally represent an absent entity in imagination in order to engage in IFP. This capacity is deemed necessary because the imaginary companion is absent or not real. This article proposes a proof of concept argument that enactivism can account for complex imaginary phenomena as imaginary friend play. Enactivism proposes thinking of IFP in a fundamentally different way, as an explicitly embodied and performative act, where one does not need to mentally represent absent entities. It reconceptualizes imagination involved in IFP as strongly embodied, and proposes that play environments have present affordances for social and normative interactions that are reenacted in IFP—there is no “absence” that needs to be mentally represented first. This article argues that IFP is performed and enacted in the world without having to be represented in the mind first, which best captures the social and interactive nature of this form of play.

Recent advances have shown that some multivariate psychological data are deviating from usual normal assumption either in the tails or kurtosis. Thereby, allowing the call for modelling of such data using more robust elliptically contoured density which includes the normal distribution as a special case. This allowed more flexibility at the kurtosis and tail regions, which is better in handling non-normality in data analysis and also lower the cost of misclassification. The present study employed a robust model for such cases in the context of discrimination and classification of multivariate psychological disorder data using multivariate exponential distribution as an underlining model. Parameters were estimated using the method of maximum likelihood estimation and the discrimination and classification were based on the log likelihood ratio approach. The resulting models relied solidly on the shape parameter, which regulate the tails and the kurtosis, thereby  allowed flexibility. This method enable us to lower the cost of misclassification. Some other areas of applications were also considered in the paper.

Although the Kendall distance is a standard metric in computer science, it is less widely used in psychology. We demonstrate the usefulness of the Kendall distance for analyzing psychological data that take the form of ranks, lists, or orders of items. We focus on weighted extensions of the metric that allow for heterogeneity of item importance, item position, and item similarity, as well showing how the metric can accommodate missingness in the form of top-k lists. To demonstrate how the Kendall distance can help address research questions in psychology, we present four applications to previous data. These applications involve the recall of events on September 11, people's preference rankings for the months of the year, people's free recall of animal names in a clinical setting, and expert predictions involving American football outcomes.

Individual acts of violence are always situated in the context of a community of relationships with others. Anger, as a passion, can be used for good or ill and this chapter will explore ways in which anger can be expressed. This chapter will address two broad questions on biosocial capacities for anger and two theological questions. In what sense is the human capacity for anger shaped through biological or cultural influences? What specific contexts reduce the likelihood of anger and what are the evolutionary advantages? In what sense might anger become sinful in theological terms? How might God’s anger be perceived in Augustine and contemporary theology? This chapter will begin by exploring evolutionary aspects of aggression and how these are related to social psychological categories. In philosophical terms, Aristotle’s definition of anger and the specific criteria for its presence are important, but so is the difference between anger and hatred. Thomas Aquinas defines anger as one of the moral passions and works out in what circumstances it become sinful. Thomistic discussion is still relevant to contemporary analysis even though Aquinas did not have access to the evolutionary and psychological data that are available in a contemporary context.

Background: Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is caused by mutations in the C1 inhibitor (C1-INH) gene Serpin Family G Member 1(SERPING1), which results in either the decreased synthesis of normal C1-INH (C1-INH‐HAE type I) or expression of unfunctional C1-INH (C1-INH‐HAE type II). In recent studies, emotional stress was reported by patients as the most common trigger factor for C1-INH‐HAE attacks. Moreover, patients reported considerable distress over the significant variability and uncertainty with which the disease manifests, in addition to the impact of physical symptoms on their overall quality of life. Objective: We did a systematic review of the literature to shed light on the advancements made in the study of how stress and psychological processes impact C1-INH‐HAE. Methods: All of the articles on C1-INH‐HAE were analyzed up to December 2019. Both medical data bases and psychological data bases were examined. The keywords (KWs) used for searching the medical and psychological data bases were the following: “hereditary angioedema,” “psychology,” “stress,” “anxiety,” and “depression.” Results: Of a total of 2549 articles on C1-INH‐HAE, 113 articles were retrieved from the literature search by using the related KWs. Twenty-one of these articles were retrieved, examined, and classified. Conclusion: Although the literature confirmed that stress may induce various physical diseases, it also warned against making simplistic statements about its incidence that did not take into account the complexity and multicausality of factors that contribute to C1-INH‐HAE expression.
