Literary relations between Poland and Spain are not only the subject of some purely theoretical considerations of this essay, but also a space for creative practice within the literary field, in the sense proposed by Pierre Bourdieu, as a complex network of positions, relations, and rivalries between its participants, individuals, and institutions. The main subject of the article is the process of creating a Polish-Spanish dramatic collage called 'Daughters of the Air. Balladyna’s Dream' (2019) based on Calderon’s and Słowacki’s dramas, grounded in the historical context, from the Polish-Spanish dramaturgical assumptions to the bilingual libretto of the play, which premiered first in Opole and then in Almagro. Such a process of creative rewriting of our classic literature can be compared to the forgotten comedias colaboradas, which were extremely popular in Spain during the Golden Age: those multi-author dramatic adaptations often resulted from a fruitful collaboration between two, three, or even more writers and dramaturges, which nowadays seems somehow more challenging.

The article examines an incident in the history of Russo-German literary relations — the lectures delivered by a LEF (Leſt Front for Arts) leader Sergey Tretiakov in Germany (1930–1931) and their reception by German literary circles. Along with ecstatic feedback from leſtist writers, Tretiakov’s appearance provoked criticism from a more conservative public. It is to the criticism of the lecture from the viewpoint of ‘art for art’s sake’ that Gottfried Benn devotes his radio broadcast of ‘The New Literary Season’ (1931), subjected to a detailed analysis in this article. Although contesting Tretiakov’s views of the relationship between literature and politics, as well as offering their slightly cartoonish depiction, Benn provides a fairly detailed description of thetheses; it becomes an important source of information about the contents of Tretiakov’s lectures since one of them was never published. Comparing Benn’s rendering of Tretiakov’s ideas with other publications by Tretiakov, the author discovers that Benn presents an accurate summary of Tretiakov’s critical views on Russian classics and the role of a writer in a Socialist society.

In 1921, the newly founded French-language periodical, La Revue de Genève, featured an exchange of letters between Daniel Halévy and Vernon Lee in which the two writers articulated contrasting visions of national identity and international literary relations. Reflecting on the traumatic experience of the First World War, Halévy called for literature and the role of the writer to be depoliticized. Lee, by contrast, put forward a politicized model of cosmopolitanism that challenged the renewed emphasis on national sovereignty in the post-war international order. Their exchange sheds light on the tense negotiation of literary cosmopolitanism that followed the Versailles settlement and the establishment of the League of Nations.

Abstract. The article is dedicated to the analysis of the modern Slovak-Ukrainian literary translations. Particularly, the attention is focused on the poetic translations, the difficulty of which conditioned by specific poetic language, rhythm, rhyme etc. Slovak-Ukrainian literary relations in the field of poetic translation have its own achievements and problems, and it’s also analyzed in this paper. The purpose of research is to analyse the modern Slovak-Ukrainian poetic translations (the turning age XX – XXI cent.) Results of research. The relevance of the selected inquiry is in the need for urgent understanding of the poetic translations as an important part of Slovak-Ukrainian literary dialogue. The purpose of this article is to research the modern Ukrainian-Slovak poetic translations (XX – XXI sent.). The scientific works of such scholars as M. Mushinka, Y. Bacha, M. Roman, M. Molnar, L. Babota, M. Nevrly, O. Myschanych, A. Cherveniak, F. Kovach, O. Zilynsky, V. Zhidlicky are dedicated to the subject of Slovak-Ukrainian literary relations. Also the works of T. Lihtei, Y. Dzhoganyk, Y. Kundrat, I. Galaida are devoted to the deep analysis of Slovak-Ukrainian literary translations. The incredible propinquity of both languages gives the first conception of easy translation, but researching of languages’ profundity and semantic variety open to us many shades. The poetic translation is the hardest work from the other translations particularly in the case of the rhyme verse. Slovak-Ukrainian poetic translations have a long tradition. The prolonged history of mutual translations continues in the turning age (XX – XXI sent.). The study used mainly comparative method, also typological and historical methods. The detail review of new names presented in this paper, the attention are focused on the anthologies of poetic translations composed by Ukrainian (Dmytro Pavlychko, Illia Galaida etc.) and Slovak translators (Yurai Andrichik). The problems which hinder for active translations are also analyzed in this article. The main result of the investigation is the deep analysis of Slovak-Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Slovak poetic translations. The presentation of little known Slovak and Ukrainian poetic translators, as P. Orieshek, S, Gal, V. Yurichkova, M. Niahai, I. Galaida, M. Bobak etc. is also the result of this study. Promising for future research are the analysis of new Slovak and Ukrainian poetic translations of postmodernist poets, and also the analysis of the modern prose and dramatic translations.

In building such a good friendly bonds, particular individuals play a significant role with their attempts. Dr. Sherali Turdiev did a lot in the development of literary relations between Uzbek and Tatar nation. It can be proved by his written works also exchanged letters. In this article, request, gratitude and invitation letters by Tatar scholars towards Dr. Sherali Turdiev will be discussed. Article compares the literary relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey during the Soviet and independence periods. Research shows that during the Soviet era, limited literary relations under the leadership of Moscow were subordinated to the unified foreign policy goals of the USSR. The Soviet Union, among other means, sought to spread communist ideology in Turkey through literary ties, to weaken NATO’s southern wing from within, and to reduce Western influence. The closed society and the “iron curtain” of the USSR did not allow the free exchange of cultural and literary treasures. After the restoration of the state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 18, 1991 and the collapse of the USSR, literary relations were free from ideological stereotypes and all restrictions. The signing of bilateral documents between Azerbaijan and Turkey has laid the legal basis for cooperation in the field of culture, including literature.

Aim. The idea of the article stems from an insufficient number of scientific investigations that would help to better understand the creative engagement in the German literature of the young Ukrainian master of narrative V. Stefanyk, who had a deep understanding of the problem of mutual enrichment of aesthetic perception by means of translation as one of important aspects of literary relations. He himself creatively perceived other writers’ achievements, thus placing the Ukrainian literature on an adequate pan-European spiritual level. The purpose of this research is to supplement the existing explorations with the studies of German parallels in V. Stefanyk’s creative work. Methods. For comparative analysis, a number of scientific research methods have been applied, such as the historical-literary, typological and biographical approaches. Results. For translation, a translator usually selects those creative works that are closest to him, that correspond to his aesthetic preferences, and are consonant with the author’s mood. Though V. Stefanyk’s German-language literature translation heritage is scarce, it nevertheless witnesses the Ukrainian short-story writer’s awareness of the world literary process, his constant search for creative works close to his own literary sentiments, in particular works on peasant topics, which raise complex moral and social issues. Therefore, his translation activity, though indirectly, contributed to the development of creative literary manner and original unique writing style. Scientific novelty. By means of comparative juxtaposition, the authors analyze the comparative-typological features in creative works of V. Stefanyk and some selected representatives of the German-language literature. Practical significance. Key outcomes of the research can be applied in further investigation of the common motives in short stories and their translations.
